SHEEP: 1,646 forward Prime Lambs: 1,023 forward - SQQ 156.41p/kg A handy yarding of 1000 plus lambs this week despite the fortunes of daily declines in trade from Tuesday onwards last week and reports of half kills all around. Notwithstanding the generality of the sheep trade at the moment a very pleasing SQQ of 156.6 p/kg all though much credit to producers this week who put together a yarding of quality with finish much more evident than in those yardings of the previous six or so weeks. In the Euro Spec lambs a top ppk from T Youngs selling 36kg to 169p/kg for Charollais ahead of Pritchard Farms at 41kg selling at 168p/kg and in total over a 5th of the yarding selling in excess of 162p/kg. In the Lump a top of 81 for 52.5kg lambs from T H Morris at Yelvertoft with S & J Farming selling to 77.50 for 55kg. The Lamb trade a difficult arena at the moment but the live system ensuring each and every lamb is exposed to arrange of outlets and end users. As numbers tighten across the nation during the ewe lamb season lets hope the balance of trade is re-addressed. Considering the fat continued to slide the stores have held up well with confidence that the lambs will improve. for pound the stores well ahead of current killing returns. Messer C & SR Johnson sold some good conformation Millennium Blue ewe lambs for 80. Messer WR Eales and Son sold strong Texels for 62 with Mr PN Burgess s big framed Suffolks at 61.50 & 60. Cull Ewes & Rams: 299 forward We had all rather predicted that Ewes would be much more difficult to place this week as many other centers towards the end of the week were much less, but no, RFM remained on top of the Ewes for another week. Hiorns and the gang sorted and penned nearly 300 to average 62. This was a much dearer trade than the previous weeks as the Ewes on offer were of a far less quality. Buyers were in full attendance and the odd farmer was there to take a chance on some of the culls as breeders. Ex-RLS auctioneer Mike Carter was most pleased to top the highest gross Cull this week with 108 for a tank Texel Ewe. Trevalon Stud had LLeyn tups to 100 with new market vendor Messer C & C Content selling massive Texels for 97. Mr D Dashwood sold the days dearest Suffolks at 95.50. Messer C & C Content sold the days dearest mules at 80 for a pen of five. Plenty of sheep were well over the 70 mark with the days dearest sorts being those which were very lean or light. As ever more Ewes are required for next week.
