text text Introduction to load tables This brochure presents load span capacities for Albion Sections eaves beam, purlin and side rail systems. Purlin and side rail tables have bean calibrated following extensive full scale testing undertaken at Birmingham University, under the supervision of Dr Jian Yang. Section properties are calculated in accordance with BS 5950 : Part 5, material grade S450 having a minimum yield stress of 450N/mm2. Note that these load tables are only valid when the components are installed exactly as outlined in Albion Sections Technical Manual. These load tables are not applicable to Albion Polycoat purlins, rails or eaves beams. See separate brochure. zed sections Zed section purlins and rail members are designed for use as secondary sheeting supports for spans up to 15m depending on loading criteria. The performance of all purlins and rail sections conform to the procedure laid down in BS 5950 Part 5 in conjunction with full scale testing. Albion Sections zed purlin and rail sections are manufactured by cold roll forming pre-hot dipped galvanised steel S450 having a guaranteed minimum yield strength of 450N/mm 2 and Z275 galvanised coating. They can be effectively used as gutter supports, parapet rails, fixed in pairs as compound beams or valley beams, column ties and wall restraints. sleeved purlins Sleeved purlin load tables for buildings with two bays or more are valid when fixed exactly as described in our Technical Manual. Working loads have been calculated in accordance with BS5950 Part 5 using a load factor of 1.6, a deflection limitation of L/180 and with the self weight of the section deducted. Material grade S450, minimum yield strength 450N/mm 2. For structural engineers wishing to check individual cases, ultimate loads are shown together with loads at different deflection criteria. In these cases the self weight of the purlin has not been deducted. Tables are valid for roof pitches up to 25 degree slope. Notes: 1. When using ultimate loads, load factors must be applied. 2. double span butt-jointed purlins Double span purlin load tables for buildings with two bays or more are valid when fixed exactly as described in our Technical Manual. Working loads have been calculated in accordance with BS5950 Part 5 using a load factor of 1.6, a deflection limitation of span/180 and with the self weight of the section deducted. Material grade S450, minimum yield strength 450N/mm 2. For structural engineers wishing to check individual cases, ultimate loads are shown together with loads at different deflection criteria. In these cases the self weight of the purlin has not been deducted. Tables are valid for roof pitches up to 25 degree slope. Notes: 1. When using ultimate tables, load factors must be applied. 2. Wind uplift figures shown are for screw fixed cladding, for hook bolt type fixing please contact our technical department. 3. In order to distribute load within the main frame, purlin joints should be staggered. This is achieved by using a sleeved joint at every alternate purlin row on the penultimate rafter. The purlin joints can be in line if necessary as long as the main frame is checked for extra stresses. heavy end bay purlins The heavy end bay system of purlins offers an economic solution to the larger and multi span type buildings with five bays or more and are valid when fixed exactly as described in our Technical Manual. Working loads have been calculated in accordance with BS5950 Part 5 using a load factor of 1.6, a deflection limitation of span/180 and with the self weight of the section deducted. Material grade S450, minimum yield strength 450N/mm 2. For structural engineers wishing to check individual cases, ultimate loads are shown together with loads at different deflection criteria. In these cases the self weight of the purlin has not been deducted. Tables are valid for roof pitches up to 25 degree slope. Notes: 1. When using ultimate tables, load factors must be applied. 2. Wind uplift figures shown are for screw fixed cladding, for hook bolt type fixing please contact our technical department. single span butt-jointed purlins Single span purlin load tables may be used where purlins are required to span in the depth of the rafters, or where continuity of the system cannot be achieved. The tables are valid when the purlins are fixed exactly as described in our Technical Manual. Working loads have been calculated in accordance with BS5950 Part 5 using a load factor of 1.6, a deflection limitation of span/180 and with the self weight of the section deducted. Material grade S450, minimum yield strength 450N/mm 2. For structural engineers wishing to check individual cases, ultimate loads are shown together with loads at different deflection criteria. An allowance for a cladding weight of 0.15kN/m 2 has been made and the loads are shown for horizontal wind pressures, limited by deflection of span/150.
