University of Missouri Extension Cape Girardeau County 684 W. Jackson Trail Jackson, MO. 63755 573-243-3581 November 1, 2011 TO: Prospective Buyers and Guests: Welcome to the thirteen Southeast Missouri Show-Me-Select Spring Calving Replacement Heifer Sale. The May 2011 Sale averaged $1764 on 120 heifers. The preg checks were started in late June and the open heifers from some of these herds were placed on feed and have already gone to market as finished cattle. There have been some $2000 plus heifers at U.S. Premium Beef and they have averaged $1550 on finished heifers. The 126 heifers in this sale were started from 680 heifers that we have individually sifted and sorted. The breeding work is already done and some will start calving in 2 months. Guaranteed bred heifers, and not having to feed and take care of the heifer that did not breed is worth about $250 - $430 per heifer to you. Remember, those heifers are guaranteed bred for 30 days after you buy them. Contact the consignor before 30 days if you suspect one is open. The genetics on most of these heifers is excellent with 6-7 generations of stacked pedigrees in several of the herds. Also some have been sending cattle to U.S. Premium Beef for processing and have carcass data on steer mates to the heifers. If you as a producer are wanting to develop a herd, 20 years of selections are already done on some of the consignments. There are 98 black, 24 F, 1 gray, 1 red and 1 RWF heifer in the sale. There are 13 Registered Angus and 3 Registered Simmentals. 14 are also Tier 2 Heifers in the sale. 54% are A.I. bred. There are three regions of the State in this sale. We have our top herds back, but also Crooks Farms from near Kansas City and Rich Vehige from north of St. Louis who are top selling farms in their regional sales are bring consignments to our Southeast Region Sale. Consignors are listed in alphabetical order so the sale order will be different. The catalog has footnotes for your use. I have also included accuracy on the EPD s and also Carcass and Scrotal EPD s on AI sires. Remember, the higher the accuracy towards.90 or above the more reliable the data is in selection. Thanks for attending the Sale, or just studying the catalog. If you have questions feel free to call me 573-243-3581, look at our website: semobeef.com, or call the consignor at the number listed.
