TRIPLE CROWN OCTOBER 2014 The Mid-Atlantic Leonberger Club of Virginia had a fantastic weekend of Great Dogs & Great People at the beautiful Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg. The Triple Crown was a weekend-long celebration of Leonbergers filled with camaraderie, good food, and strong competition. The Trophy and Rosette tables were stunning. Great Leonbergers from Coast to Coast turned out to exhibit (including the Top 4 Leos in the country!) We ended up having several exciting firsts: Our First Triple Crown Winner - Odin Our First Back-To-Back Best in Show for a Leonberger Our First National Owner Handler Best In Show for a Leonberger Ms. Cindy Stansell judged the first show of the Triple Crown. Picking from a large entry, Best of Breed went to Lisa Bazlin s Odin (A Feiner Eros), while Matt & Susan Townsend s Fio (Sforzando s Fioritura) took Best of Opposite. Select Dog and Bitch went to Janis Cook s Patton (Kalahari s Call To Attention), and Rick & Eileen Pevarski s Britta (Yara vom Kaniberg). When Odin and Fio went on to represent Leonbergers in the Working Group and NOHS Working Group Rings, they made this Saturday a Day for the Leos by not only winning both Working Groups, but also winning BOTH BEST IN SHOWS! Following the meeting of the Mid-Atlantic Leonberger Club of Virginia, the LCA Concurrent Specialty was held. Ms. Julia Brady judged Sweeps, while Ms. Judith Smith judged the 4-6 Month Puppies and the Concurrent Specialty. The Sweepstakes had a fine entry of puppies. Mary Monahan s boy, Bevard s My Irish Rogue, took Best Puppy in Sweeps and Amanda Badillo s girl, ForeverGreens Ziva, took Best of Opposite in Sweeps. There was a thunderous applause for Shannon White s Jack (Starhavens Black Pearl Cap n) when he strutted around the ring for his Best Veteran in Sweeps. Everyone appreciated Julia s wonderful, gracious handling of the ring! The Concurrent Specialty had a gigantic entry. The Best of Breed Entry took up more than three sides of the ring and had to be judged in heats! Awards of Merit went to Patton, Fio, and Carl Barnum s Yuhar (Yuhar vom Kaniberg). Best of Breed and Best of Opposite went to Odin & Britta. Shelia Wickman s Vigo and Alida Greendyk s Zambi took home the Selects. All of the gorgeous champions in the ring made for an amazing sight. With so much quality in the ring, making the cut was a thrilling accomplishment. Following the Concurrent Specialty, Harry Austin & Kathleen Bisbee put on a terrific BBQ for everyone. Many members of the LCA board were there to mingle with the crowd, and everyone enjoyed the incredible raffle that Morgan Williams put together. The evening ended with folks cheering for Leos in the Group/BIS rings and a fun B Match by the Mid-Atlantic Leonberger Club of Virginia.
On Sunday morning, Leo folks were there early enjoying donuts and coffee. Ms. Barbara Finch judged the All-Breed entry. In the Best of Breed Ring, Odin took the Breed for the third time in a row, becoming the first Leo to get his name engraved on the Triple Crown Challenge Perpetual Trophy! Best of Opposite Sex went to Alida s Zambi. Select Dog and Select Bitch went to the Austin s Huck (Corleone s Hidden Agenda) and the Townsend s Fio respectively. All the Leos looked great in the fall morning light and everyone is looking forward to the fun, competition, and festivities at the beautiful Oatlands Plantation next October.
