Isbrücker Institute Txomic Zoology, University Amsterdm, The Nerls Abstrct The South Americn cllichthyid ctfish genus Aspids R. v Iherg, 1907, is redefed bsis thirteen noml species. Mphologicl differences relted genus Cyds Lcépède, 1803, re discussed. Two species iglly described Cyds, viz., Cyds rimundi Cyds pucirditus re here trnsferred Aspids. Aspids now csists followg previously described noml species: (1) Aspids rochi R. v Iherg, 1907 (typespecies genus), known from Brzil, Cerá, Ftlez, (2) Aspids rimundi (Stedchner, 1907) from Aspids Brzil, Mrnhão, Prníb system, (3) lkoi P. de Mir Ribeiro, from 1949, Brzil, Ms Geris, Prníb system, (4) Aspids pucirditus (Weitzmn & Nijssen, 1970) from Brzil, Goiás, Argui system. Ne new species from Brzil re described here: (1) Aspids lbter from Goiás, Tocntzh, (2) Aspids brunneus from M Grosso, Serr do Rcd, (3) Aspids crvlhoi from Cerá, Gurmirng, (4) Aspids eurycephlus from Goiás, Córego Vermelho, (5) Aspids fuscogutttus from M Grosso, Córrego Cguho, (6) Aspids mculosus from Bhi, Itpicurú system, (7) Aspids menezesi from Cerá, Slgdo system, (8) Aspids poecilus from M Grosso, upper Xgu, from Goiás, Argui, (9) Aspids spilotus from Cerá, tributry Acráu, from Cchoeir do Gusmão.
