The contest is intended to help enhance the learning and knowledge one gains throughout their project and to then convey that gained knowledge in a visual communication tool for the public. For questions please contact the appropriate department superintendent. Indoor Building This month I begin my series of articles highlighting new classes or class changes for Indoor Depts. at the 2013 County Fair. Now is the time to use indoor time to work on craft projects or other department s projects that can be made and set aside for the fair. Some of you attended Mid-Winter Blahs and made items which can be entered in the fair. Put those away in a safe place and don t forget to enter them for the County Fair. Public schools will be closed for spring break. Why not use some of that time to work on projects to enter in the fair? By not waiting until school is out to start your projects you have more time, won t be rushed, probably have a neater project and be able to complete more projects to give us more entries for our public to view. We will start with the Crafts Dept. We have a new Bone class, which is any item made from bone/skeleton of animals. Once again this year we will have the Duct Tape class. There will also be 3 Jewelry classes. They are: 1. Jewelry made from fiber (ex. Friendship bracelet) 2. Jewelrytraditional, (beads, wire, charms, etc.) single piece and 3. Jewelry set-traditional. The Painting class will be painting on

wood, metal or glass. Glass craft will be any item crafted on or with glass. The Clover Dept. will have 6 classes just like last year. Each clover can enter 1 item in each class. The General Dept. classes will remain the same as last year. A department that has declined in entries is the Mechanical Arts. We usually think of restored farm machinery or antiques for this dept. There are also classes for restored residential equipment, modified equipment or fabricated. Do you have project work from Career Tech that could be entered in this dept.? If you have any questions about entries for this dept. now is the time to contact the Supt., Gary Seibel, at 410 635-6930 or gseibel@umd.edu. Once again I would encourage 4-H ers to enter their school writing projects in the Writing Dept. 4-H ers can see how their writing compares to others, receive premium money and give the public the opportunity to read their entries. Next month I will be covering Garden products, Informal Demonstrations, Home Environment and Lost Arts Dept. Any questions please contact me at 410 857-0416. Sandra Stonesifer FAIR PHOTOS Photo orders from the 2012 CC 4-H/FFA Fair are available for pickup in the Extension Office. We have pictures for: Sally Clas Jeanne Cooney Shannon Dell Lisa Goretsas Mary Ann Miller Nicole Patterson Donna Ruby Nona Schwartzbeck Amy Stevens If you missed ordering the first time, you can still place an order for an additional fee. Ag Day at the Mall This year the CC 4-H/FFA Fair will be hosting Ag Day at the Town Mall on Saturday, March 16 th. This is a great opportunity to recruit new youth to your clubs and showcase your clubs accomplishments! This will take the place of Fair Day at the Mall normally held in July. If your club is interested in participating in the day, contact Katie Weishaar at 814-644-5054 or katieweki@yahoo. Tractor Safety & Certification Program Participation in the Tractor Safety Program is required if you wish to enter the tractor contest at the county fair! Monday, March 4 Lippy Brothers Inc.
