FEDERATION CYNOLOGIQUE INTERNATIONALE (FCI) (AISBL) Place Albert 1er, 13, B - 6530 Thuin (Belgique) Tél : ++32.71.59.12.38 Fax : ++32.71.59.22.29, internet: http://www.fci.be RULES FOR THE EUROPEAN CUP FOR RETRIEVERS Approved by the General Committee in Amsterdam, March 2007.

Art. 1. CONSTITUTION A. In 1992 the Retriever Commission of the Fédération Cynologique Internationale created an international field trial for Retrievers, called the EUROPEAN CUP FOR RETRIEVERS, to be run by representatives of the European countries which are members of the FCI. B. This field trial will take place every two years, if possible in turn in each of the participating countries. C. Countries which, for reasons to do with hunting difficulties, are not able to organize the event on their own territory, may, if they wish, organize it in another country, providing that they obtain the agreement of the relevant society in the host country. Art. 2. AIM The aim of the European Cup is to select dogs which most efficiently, and in the style appropriate to their breed, find and retrieve on a practical shoot. The aim is also to show the differences between the member countries, in particular the great variation in field and game in the different countries and regions in Europe. Ideally, the people taking part in an event of this nature should have proven their qualities by competing and (or) judging in several field trials with CACIT abroad and in their own country. Art. 3. TYPE OF COMPETITION A. The European Cup is an international field trial for all retriever breeds. B. The CACT and the CACIT will be offered through the organizing country. C. The trials will be held according to the international FCI regulations for English-style field trials. D. Period of organization: during the shooting season of the organizing country. E. The first competition in which all the candidates will participate is a qualifying F.T. with CACT-CACIT, which makes the selection for the final of the European Cup. F. Fair play and fair treatment should be of first priority in the competition. In questionable situations the judgement should always be to the dog s advantage. Art. 4. ORGANIZATION A. The Retrievers Commission of the FCI will be responsible for : 1) designating, at least two years in advance, the country which will be in charge of the practical organization of the European Cup, 2) nominating the judges, proposed by the organizing commission of the host country. 3) fixing the registration fee per participant for the following European Cup, 4) taking all the necessary steps for the successful organization of the European Cup. B. The organizing country is responsible for the announcement of the competition, issuing the invitations and other formalities relevant to the organization of the European Cup. C. The delegate of the Commission of the hosting country is responsible for the good carrying on of the European Cup according to the present regulations. Rules for the European Cup for Retrievers 2

Art. 5. FORMATION OF NATIONAL TEAMS A. Each country will be represented by one team only, considering of a minimum of two dogs and a maximum of four dogs. B. This maximum can be reduced to 3 dogs per team according to the possibilities of the organizing country. C. A substitute dog may be designated, providing it has been previously registered according to the provisions of the present rules. D. The only dogs allowed to compete are those registered with the studbooks or the appendix to the studbooks of an FCI member organisation or contract partner as well as those registered with the studbooks or appendix to the studbooks of a non FCI member organisation with which the FCI has entered into a cooperation agreement of mutual recognition of studbooks (AKC, KC, CKC). E. Freedom is left to each country for the formation of its team. F. Nationality: 1) The OWNER must have the nationality of the country for which his/her dog will compete or must have his/her legal residence for a minimum of 12 months in the country for which his/her dog will compete. If the owner has a double nationality, he/she can choose either country without any restriction. If difficulties arise, they must be referred to the FCI General Committee for final settlement. 2) DOG must have been registered with the studbook or appendix to the studbook of the national organisation for which it will compete for a minimum of 12 months. 3) No matter his/her nationality, the HANDLER will not be allowed to compete for more than one country and will be authorized to handle a maximum of 4 dogs. G. Each team participating in the European Cup will be represented by a team captain chosen by his country. His duty will be to direct his team during the European Cup. The names of the team captains must be included in the programme. H. The team captains may replace any dog with the substitute until the start of the semifinals. Art. 6. ENTRIES A. The number of dogs participating per country must reach the organizing society at least 2 months before the date of the European Cup. B. The number of teams and the number of dogs can be limited by the organizing country due to limitation of the specific type of shooting in that country. C. A minimum of 4 participating countries is required for the European Cup to take place. If the number of teams entered leads to an unwieldy number of participants, the organizer can reduce the number of dogs per team (Art. 5 A) and/or limit the number of teams in mutual agreement with the FCI Commission of Retrievers. D. The precise composition of the teams (including the substitute dog) must reach the organizing society at least 2 weeks before the date of the European Cup. E. Entries for the European Cup may be made by e-mail and fax and must be followed by ordinary mail. Rules for the European Cup for Retrievers 3

Entries will only be valid if they are accompanied by: 1) the name, breed, sex and date of birth of the dog, studbook number, identification number, work book reference and a water certificate 2) the names of the dog s sire and dam 3) the name and address of the breeder, the owner and the handler, which must also be listed in the programme 4) the entry fee for the team, which will not be refunded even in the event of cancellation by the team. Art. 7.- AMOUNT OF THE ENTRY FEE The entry fee per competitor will be set every two years by the FCI Retriever Commission and has to be paid to the organizing society the moment the entry form is sent in. Art. 8. ORGANIZATION OF THE COMPETITION A. The trials making up the semi-finals will be held on one or two days, each trial, if necessary, divided into two series of dogs, with one CACT available per series of dogs. Note: FCI allows only one CACIT per ground and day. With two series of dogs at different places but at the same ground, there must be a barrage between the CACT dogs for the one CACIT. B. The organizing country will see that the dogs in each team are distributed proportionally throughout all competitions. C. The final will contain a maximum of 12 dogs, in one single competition at which the CAC and the CACIT will be available. D. The 12 dogs which obtained the best results in the semi-finals will be admitted in the final. E. Should the number of dogs in the final not reach 12, the vacant places will be attributed by the Jury to those dogs most deserving a place in the final. F. Lots and starting numbers will be drawn the evening before each competition to decide the order in which dogs will compete. Art. 9. JURY A. The jury will be composed of 2 judges for each series of dogs in the semi-finals. B. The final will be judged by 3 judges: one preferably from the organizing country (Chairman of the Jury) and two from other countries. C. Each country will give the FCI commission a list of judges with sufficient experience of international Retriever Field Trials in Europe and preferably competing in the English type trials and who speak at least one of the FCI languages with preference to English. D. The travelling, boarding and accommodation expenses of the judges will be paid by the organizing society. Art. 10. CLASSIFICATION A. On the basis of marks attributed to each dog during the European Cup, an individual classification will be drawn up, which will determine the individual classification and per team according to the table below : Rules for the European Cup for Retrievers 4

Other prizes, including a souvenir for each participant will be provided by the organizing country. Art. 12. DISPUTES The judging is definitive and cannot be appealed.
