ELEVENTH HOUR RESCUE Eleventh Hour Rescue (EHR) is a 100% volunteer not for profit organization. EHR has saved over 1,400 lives since its inception in 2004. EHR is strongly opposed to shelters inhumanely euthanizing animals simply because of overcrowding. EHR rescues animals primarily from facilities where this practice is widely used as a temporary solution for severe overpopulation problems. EHR encourages like minded individuals to join us and/or donate to help us continue our mission. For more information about EHR, visit www.ehrdogs.org. MISSION POSSIBLE! SMOKEY TURNER We would like to introduce you to Eleventh Hour Rescue s Mission Dogs. All of these dogs have been with the rescue for at least one year. We are recommending these dogs to a dog savvy family that is willing to open their hearts and homes to their special needs. They are wonderful dogs that we have grown to know well and love very much. Please call us at 973-664-0865 for more information on these dogs. These dogs are our long-term pals, and will require special homes. Most are searching for single canine households, while others have various types of sometimes-workable aggression issues. These pups are hoping for perfect owners who will understand their individual needs, and give them the love, care and structure they deserve. In return, they will provide you with a lifetime of love and camaraderie. My name is Smokey Joe. I m a Chow/ Shepherd/Rotti mix. I love to play with other dogs and enjoy playing with squeaky toys. I ve been waiting for my Fur-ever home for over a year. Won t you give me a chance? All I ask for is some patience, understanding and love. Please open your heart and home to me. I promise I ll be good! Hi! I'm Turner, a 2 year old Boxer/Am Staff mix. I've been waiting for you, my family, for a very long time, but I know you're out there! I'm great with other dogs, love to play with toys, and know basic commands like 'sit' and 'down'. I've never met a person I don't instantly fall in love with, and will immediately melt into the floor for a belly rub. Could you be the family I've been waiting to 'Turn' on the charm for?! LILY FARLEY SASSY Lily is a beautiful Dogo Argentino mix who is smart and very loyal to her caretaker. Although she looks rough, she is a sweet and loving dog. She loves to get out for a walk and is good with most other dogs. Lily loves hanging out and chewing a bone. She will be a wonderful companion for someone willing to give her a chance. Hello, my name is Farley and I would like to be your new best friend! I am about 2 years old, and am house trained!!! I love to play and love children! I'm still very much puppy. I have also graduated obedience school!!! I love to get my belly rubbed, and love the car! My one down fall is that I don't really like other dogs... so a one dog home would be best for me! Please come meet me, I promise you will fall in love! My name is Sassy. I m not sure why I haven t been adopted yet. It seems that everyone just passes me by. I m not the biggest dog; I m not the fluffiest dog; and I may not be the cutest of all dogs, but you don t know what you re missing. I am loving, playful, house trained and really just want a home of my own. Please adopt me. JETHRO BACALL HOUDINI Hi, my name is Jethro and I am a 3½ year old black lab mix. I have been with 11 th Hour a long time because I have some issues with meeting people. I am living in a foster home now and I am very good with my foster family. I am cuddly and affectionate with my foster parents and even sleep in bed with them. When company comes over, I have to be on leash and sometimes stay in my room because I tend to guard my house. I m a sweet boy, but need to go to a home that will make me feel safe. My name is Bacall and I am a boxer/pitbull mix. I have been waiting for my chance at a home for three long years. I don't understand why no one has picked me yet. I am four years old and I absolutely love to be around people and children. I have never barked, growled or showed any signs of aggression towards a human being. I love to give lots of kisses, go for walks, play fetch and mostly, just cuddle. I need to be the only pet in my new home. My name is Houdini and I have been with 11 th Hour Rescue for about two years. I am a boxer mix, around 5 years old. I am currently living in a foster home with a small dog and we get along great! I am not very fond of large dogs though. I have very good manners in the house. I do not destroy things and I am housebroken. I am so sweet and very handsome. Please give me a chance.

Cindy rella: My Fairytale... Submitted by: Chris & Lauren Golio My name is Cindy, but you can call me Cinny or Rella like my friends do. People always ask what kind of dog I am and I hear my parents say they aren t really sure. I was listed as a lab mix and a lot of people do say I look like a black lab puppy. What do you think Before the wonderful volunteers at 11th Hour Rescue saved me from a kill shelter in Georgia, I was living in Tennessee. I don t like to talk about it much, as it was not a very good life. However, now that my story has become a fairytale, it has become easier to talk about. While Cinderella s story revolved around the 12th hour (stroke of midnight), my story actually revolves around the 11th hour (11th Hour Rescue). I think after reading my fairytale you will understand how (I) a little dog from Tennessee named Cindy became a princess too. I was living in a land far, far away (in the mountains of Tennessee) with an evil man and 15 other dogs. The man was mean, just like Cinderella s evil Stepmother. Fast forward 2 years, good conquered evil and he was arrested. I went from a garbage can with my friend Mr. Bojangles to a kill shelter in Georgia. I did not know my time was running out and I was much happier there, than in my first home. Way before the clock struck 12, 11th Hour arranged for me to be sent up from Georgia for an adoption drive at Petsmart in Rockaway, NJ. While my ride was in a van and not a pumpkin coach, it still did the job! I spent my first night in New Jersey with a wonderful woman who had other dogs, yet found the time to make me feel special and safe. Then, I went to Petsmart to meet my new family. They bought me a pretty pink collar and other stuff I needed, then took me to my Grandparents house to give me a bath. I felt much better. The first night I was really scared to be alone so I used all the strength I could muster and let out enough of a noise that my Mom understood and slept on the couch next to my crate. All night she told me it was alright and I started to believe her. Now I sleep on my Princess chair I really like cuddling, walking, eating and playing with friends. I am a great athlete. I can outrun any person or dog I play with, I can jump through a hoop, and am even showing signs of being a great tree climber. I also know how to swim. I have learned to play catch, am a great listener, love being around kids and other dogs. Have I mentioned I love to cuddle Sometimes I still get really scared, but a lot of people who love me very much tell me it is going to be OK, and I believe them. Thanks again to all the wonderful people at 11th Hour Rescue for all your hard work! Not only is my life better, but also my Mom & Dad s, my Grandparents, my cousins Kaylee & Kelsie and all the kids in my neighborhood who love to play with me. Our fairytale continues each day and none of us have encountered any more evil men, step-moms, dragons, witches or anything else of the sort.

MY FOSTER DOG By Unknown Author My foster dog stinks to high heaven. I don't know for sure what breed he is. His eyes are blank and hard. He won't let me pet him and growls when I reach for him. He has ragged scars and crusty sores on his skin. His nails are long and his teeth, which he showed me, are stained. I sigh. I drove two hours for this. I carefully maneuver him so that I can stuff him in the crate. Then I heft The crate and put it in the car. I am going home with my new foster dog. At home I leave him in the crate till all the other dogs are in the yard. I Get him out of the crate and ask him if he wants outside. As I lead him to The door he hikes his leg on the wall and shows me his stained teeth again. When we come in, he goes to the crate because that's the only safe place he Sees. I offer him food but he won't eat it if I look at him, so I turn my Back. When I come back, the food is gone. I ask again about outside. When we come back, I pat him before I let Him in the crate; he jerks away and runs into the crate to show me his Teeth. The next day I decide I can't stand the stink any longer. I lead him into the bath with cheese in my hands. His fear of me is not Quite overcome by his longing for the cheese. And well he should fear me, for I will give him a bath. After an attempt or two to bail out he is defeated and stands there. I Have bathed four legged bath squirters for more years than he has been Alive. His only defense was a show of his stained teeth, that did not hold Up to a face full of water. As I wash him, it is almost as if I wash not only the stink and dirt away But also some of the hardness. His eyes look full of sadness now. And he Looks completely pitiful as only a soap covered dog can. I tell him that he will! Feel better when he is cleaned. After the soap, The towels are not too bad, so he lets me rub him dry. I take him outside. He runs for joy... The joy of not being in the tub And the joy of being clean. I, the bath giver, am allowed to share the joy. He comes to me and lets me Pet him. One week later I have a vet bill. His skin is healing. He likes for me to Pet him (I think). I know what color he will be when his hair grows in. I have found out he is terrified of other dogs, so I carefully introduce Him to my mildest four legged brat. It doesn't go well. Two weeks later a new vet bill for an infection, that was missed on the First visit. He plays with the other dogs. Three weeks later his coat shines, he has gained weight. He shows his clean teeth when his tongue lolls out After he plays chase in the yard with the gang. His eyes are soft and filled with life. He loves hugs and likes to show Off his tricks, if you have the cheese. Someone called today and asked about him. They saw the picture I took the First week. They asked about his personality, his history, his breed. They Asked if he was pretty. I asked them lots of questions. I checked up on them. I prayed. I said yes. When they saw him the first time they said he was the most beautiful dog They had ever seen. Six months later, I got a call from his new family. He is wonderful, smart, well behaved, and very loving. How could someone not want him? I told them I didn't know. He is beautiful. They all are. Contact tammyprobst@optonline.net for additional Information. see www.ehrdogs.org for weekend adoption events I used to live in New Orleans and was trying to move back right before Hurricane Katrina. After the storm, I knew I still wanted to move even though it wouldn t be to Louisiana- and I had always wanted a dog (I have been a lifelong Snoopy fan). I figured I could rescue a Katrina dog to do something to helpso I went on petfinder.com, and there he was- my beagle. The ad said he was 3 years old (I think he might have been older), and how he was fighting the battle of the bulge- if you were watching carbs & needed to walk more- this was your guy. I knew we were soulmates! I found out that he had a couple seizures, but wasn t on medication- but I didn t care- whatever he needed, I was ready to provide. This picture is the day I went to pick him up- he must have thought I was ok as you can see by his wagging tail! He did have a seizure in the car on our way home to our new apartment, and we both got through it and it wasn t so scary- so I figured it wouldn t be a problem to deal with, we would just have to keep an eye on it. I had Ralph for a wonderful 5 weeks- I know I made his life better, and he made mine wonderful. We walked a lot- lounged a lot- made memories that I will cherish. But he wasn t meant to be with me here forever, as he died from complications of seizures he had while I was at work. It was terrible coming home to him suffering, and he died in my arms on the way to the hospital. That was a heartbreaking experience, that I wouldn t trade for the world. And everyone @ Eleventh Hour was so supportive and also felt the loss of Ralphie. I am glad I was with him at the end, and didn t have to decide to put him down- that he died of natural causes. He taught me patience, and love, and what it means to be a best friend. And best of all, he brought me to my current dog, Chance (Mr. December in 2008 s calendar), who is pretty much a cream colored version of Ralph- and is the reason I get out of bed every day.
