In Honor of Our Dear Friend, Sandi Ethridge We would like to dedicate this issue to honor the life and memory of our longtime volunteer, foster parent, and friend, Sandi Ethridge. We were all saddened and shocked when Sandi passed away unexpectedly last month. Sandi has been a treasured part of the Greenhill family for many years, and will be greatly missed by those of us who had the privilege of knowing her. One of the warmest people you could meet, Sandi always came to the shelter with a smile and a story to share. Many times with her little Yorkie, Pixie, in tow, her face would light up whenever she told us stories about Pixie s spirited and funny personality. Her positive spirit was truly contagious, and, whenever she visited the shelter, she always left us feeling a little bit brighter. Sandi truly loved volunteering and fostering, and couldn t get enough of her foster cats and kittens, no matter what antics they were up to! From bottle babies to special needs animals to kittens and adult cats, she was always ready and willing to help whenever help was needed. Sandi will be deeply missed, not only as a foster parent and volunteer, but as a dear friend and member of our family. While it brings us great sadness that we will no longer get to see her warm smile and hear her laughter as she walks through the door, we know her spirit and heart live on in every animal she has helped, and in everything we will continue to do.

Paw Print Personals! Makenna Sweet and inquisitive girl looking for someone who will go on adventures with me! Come meet me at Greenhill! Meet Willa- our Volunteer of the Month for January! Willa is such a cheerful and highspirited addition to our front office team at 1 st Avenue and has contributed over 200 hours of volunteer service since September 2015! Willa pleasantly answers phone calls, greets visitors coming into the shelter and regularly helps everyone (people and animals!) feel welcome and at ease. We are SO grateful to have Willa on our volunteer team! Willa has several favorite aspects of volunteering at in First Avenue Shelter's front office. She says "the employees are awesome and so much fun! There is always something new and exciting going on. But really, it's being around all the amazing animals that is so lovely." During her shift breaks, Willa likes to visit the cattery and "get [her] fill of purrs and furry rubs!" When she s not busy helping in 1 st Avenue s front office, Willa also volunteers once a week delivering meals for Springfield s Meals on Wheels program. Outside of her volunteer work, Willa enjoys golfing at least twice a week ( even in the rain! ) and is involved with the 9 Hole Ladies at her club. Her other hobbies include playing bridge, daily crossword puzzles, time in the garden, cooking, and entertaining. Willa is also an avid reader, and usually has two books going at once. From her volunteer experience at 1 st Avenue, Willa has learned that Eugene has "a ton of animal lovers of every age and circumstance, and that animals respond unconditionally to love and care. Well said, Willa! Willa moved to Eugene 11 years ago. She retired after 30 years as a sales trainer and district manager for Mead Johnson Nutritionals. She has been married to her husband Darrell for six years, who she met on Match.com! Willa has four adult children, three grandsons, and one cat, Bella, who was adopted from Greenhill 11 years ago. Colson Charming and adoring gentleman seeking someone who loves wand toys as much as I do! Come say hi at First Avenue! Princess Maria Sassy and fearless older lady looking to spend my golden years with people who love to play! Come meet me at Greenhill! Meet Amanda Jenks, our Foster of the Month for January! Amanda started fostering with us in May 2017 after caring for a litter of 3- day-old bottle baby kittens. Once they were all grown up and rehomed, she realized how much she missed having kittens and reached out to us about becoming a foster parent. Since then, Amanda has already fostered 13 weaned and bottle baby kittens for us and has never shied away from a challenging case. We are so grateful to have her on our team! What is Amanda s favorite thing about fostering? BABY KITTENS! She loves having the opportunity to give these young animals a second chance after they have a difficult start in life. The most memorable kitten she has had so far came into her care after living in a garage with her feral mother and littermates. At first, the kitten was terrified and mostly wanted to hide under the furniture. By the end of her foster stay, though, she was so loving and sweet. I know she is making a family a wonderful friend. Outside of fostering for us, Amanda is devoted to her family and is a caregiver for her mother. She also has a 5-year-old niece and a 6-month-old nephew. Fostering has brought joy to her family, and has helped her niece learn about empathy and caring for animals. Amanda recommends fostering and emphasizes its importance because these animals know that you are saving them and the bond that you create is incomparable. I truly believe we have a responsibility to care for the animals in the world and this is how I can contribute.

She is a love and doing great. Vet check was good. No other pets in the household. We are so happy to have her. Thank you Greenhill for checking on us. My husband's father is named Clyde and that was just too awkward so now the cat's name is Luke - it seems to suit him. He was anxious the first few days with us. After we were able to coax him from under the bed, things became comfortable for Luke. He even plays fetch. He had a vet visit and is doing fine. Our only other pets are guinea pigs. He likes to stand on the lid of their cage and watch them and that doesn't seem to bother them. He's great, just right for us. Primrose has settled in great. Gets along with the other cat in household. Very happy with the adoption. Both cats have taken to my small child in a very loving way i.e. cuddling up with him. All in all a very good adoption experience.. Dot is awesome! She listens well, and is a quick learner, she will do things without me asking her. She is housebroken and waits for me to come home. I took her to the vet and she is very healthy. She has been around the pets of other people and has done fine, and is good with children and adults. She does well on the leash. I really love her!

It only took Angel a couple days to adjust. I couldn't ask for a more wonderful, loving, affectionate cat. She is truly living up to her name and I will keep her name. Thank you very much, I am very fortunate to have her in my life. Fiona has settled in and is doing great. She had a great vet visit at the Santa Clara clinic and all is good. She barks at people and chases cats but we are working on it. She does not like the leash and tries to chew it. Again, we are working on it. She loves her toys! She loves to get down under the covers at night, she stays there ALL night. She's a cuddle bug! ;o) We love her so much!! Oscar is a sweet little gem of a little boy. He's definitely a mama's boy and is snoozing on my lap right now. We have 3 other dogs and 3 cats and he gets along with all of them. Tammy, our Pekingese that we adopted from FAS last year, is teaching him how to play. It is really fun to watch. We took him to the vet and he is in good health. We're so happy to have him. Billy is doing great. The adoption at First Avenue was easy and the staff was very friendly. Vet check was fine and he received another treatment for ear mites. Billy is very affectionate, playful, and a total lap cat. He is self entertaining with his cat tower and loves to chase his laser. He walks right up to visiting adults. He has not been around children or other animals. He uses his litter box appropriately and does not scratch the furniture.

It s rewarding to see your dog learn little things, even if it s just learning to listen to you. Misaki Kato - Foster Parent

I love that I can change someone s life with something as simple as introducing them to a wonderful cat. Emma Burstein - Volunteer Club Awards Amanda S. (FAS Cattery) - Got "caught" stepping in to do dishes after she finished her main floor cleaning shift on 12/21. The volunteer scheduled for dishes had to call out last minute so she pitched in to do both shifts to keep the cattery on track and looking great. Thank you for being awesome Amanda! *achieved 250, 500, 750, or 1,000 life hours since February 2017 Cathy L., Carol B., Leah P., Charlotte C., Garrett S., Lindsay C., Willy H., Ted S., Brian K., Deanna V., Hal B., Kathy C., Vance M., Larry W., Rebecca H., Lynn C., Kim K., Mary M., Jeanette B., Rachel L., Michele B., Judy G., Destiny F., Janine P., Jeff S., Jessica D., Nancy H., Lindsay P., Nathan M., Joan H., Laura P., Rebecca L., Natalie O., Karen L., Lisa R., Ruth C., Robyn S., Suzanne P. Less than an hour later, she offered to do a lastminute transport call to bring a cat from Emergency Vet Hospital to 1st Avenue Shelter.
