Scavenger Hunt Enter the Adventure! Teacher s Guide Updated: Summer 2017 APPROXIMATE TIME: 90 MINUTES Suggestions for teachers: 1. The activities take you through a large portion of the Saint Louis Zoo. Make sure your students are familiar with the zoo layout or have a map. 2. Divide your students into groups of five or fewer students with an adult. Suggested Pre-Visit Activities 1. Answer Key Because the animals at the Zoo are living creatures with very special needs, at certain times some of the animals referred to in this scavenger hunt may not be on public display. Please remind your students to do their best to complete the hunt by carefully observing the animals they find and not to worry about any that are off display. We update our scavenger hunts on an annual basis during the summer months to be able to provide you with the most accurate information about our animals. Where in the world do Chimpanzees live? 3. Where in the world do OUR species of Orangutans live? Go left exiting the orangutan habitat and turn right towards Lakeside Café. Go around Lakeside café taking the path on the right. Follow the path through Discovery Corner and past the Living World. Enter the Monsanto Insectarium Monsanto Insectarium 1. Is the centipede an insect? 2. How many bees live in a hive? 3. The Saint Louis Zoo is working hard to save the American Burying Beetle, a very helpful native insect. The American Burying Beetle is a carrion beetle. What is carrion?

Exit the Monsanto Insectarium and head to the left. Follow the Hippo tracks to the entrance of the River s Edge River s Edge 1. What color is a capybara? 2.
