The mission of the NFSA is to promote: Safe, healthy food Safe drinking water Healthy plants, fish and animals Excellence in animal welfare and respect for fish and animals Environmentally friendly production Health, quality and consumer interests throughout the food production chain

Legislation administered by the NFSA The Food Safety Act: is designed to guarantee healthy, safe food and safe drinking water for consumers, promote health, regulate environmentally friendly production and prevent the spread of animal and plant diseases Act concerning the welfare of animals: is designed to ensure ethical keeping of animals and fish Act relating to cosmetic products and other body care products, etc.: is designed to ensure that cosmetics and body care products safeguard human and animal health

The NFSA also administers: Acts relating to veterinarians and other animal health personnel Acts relating to the plant breeder's right Acts relating to livestock breeding Regulations appurtenant to these acts lay down more detailed provisions. The majority of the Norwegian acts and regulations are included in the EEA Agreement and constitute common European rules.

The NFSA s inspection activities in figures 2017 Total of 70902 inspections: 25 173 on food hygiene control 27070 on animal primary production and welfare 3445 on fish establishments 6233 on boarder control 8981 on other areas 58831 export certificates for fish and seafood issued

Conclusions 2017 Food in Norway is safe There is generally a low level of foreign substances in food No findings give grounds for suspecting any illegal medication of animals Plant and animal health is generally satisfactory The salmon lice infestation level has decreased, but the situation related to fish healt and welfare is still unsatisfactory

Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) Stauts in Norway Our goal is healthy cervidae in Norway CWD a prion disease no cure 40.000 animals tested 2016-2017, 22 animals found positive Culling of the Nordfjella zone 1 population is completed No indications of spreading outside Nordfjella Plan for 2018 is to test 30.000 animals Important success criteria for risk management and trust: Risk assessment and updates from VKM Cooperation between EFSA and VKM

Regulatory and legislative work - international activities The Norwegian Food Safety Authority participated in: 220 meetings within the EU 11 CODEX committees

External audits 2016 ESA Inspections The EFTA Surveillance Authority (ESA) monitors Norway s compliance with EEA rules.
