The Humane Society of Mason County s mission is to provide a second chance for companion animals.

HSMC Highlights of 2016 2016 was a busy year for HSMC! Here are just some of the highlights of our events, milestones reached and services provided to Mason County by our volunteers, friends and supporters: Our property development is coming along great; the transformer was moved, the septic design is complete and the well will be installed soon (and pump for the well was also paid for by a generous supporter, thank you!). HSMC has also adopted a part of State Hwy 3 between the Airport and Lake Flora Road to keep the highway free of litter check out our sign next time you drive this route! We have set up a limited cat foster care program, and assisted with our first TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) of seven cats from Shelton. We also received our first grant ($2,000) earmarked for spay and neuter (S/N), and spayed and neutered 153 dogs and cats for the community! We provided transport to the S/N clinics for six families who were unable to make the trip on their own, including two families who paid for their S/N surgeries but were unable to make the transports at the required hour. We fostered, provided emergency veterinary care, spayed/neutered and rehomed 6 kittens, assisted with transport and vaccines for an additional 12 kittens who were rehomed via our partners, Paws Of Bainbridge and Kitsap Humane Society, and rehomed 8 adult cats via our partners, Rescue Every Dog and Paws Of Bainbridge Island. We also rescued, provided medical care and rehomed via our partner, Adopt A Pet, one very wonderful 8 year old male pitbull who had spent his entire life on a chain. We also provided 837 pounds of dog food and 413 pounds of cat food, not to mention all the treats, flea product, shampoo, collars, leashes and toys that were given to pets in need. We also moved to a great new location in Allyn. We did very well at all of our fundraising events (including our annual Sails n Tails auction, Lakeland Village Rummage Sales, All You Can Eat events at Casper s, just to name a few!). We also expanded our presence on social media and can be found on both Facebook and Twitter. We have done great things in 2016, and will do even better in 2017! Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers, friends and supporters that make it all possible and for your love and help for our furry residents of Mason County!

Don t just take your dog for a walk Take your Walk for a Dog! We are very excited to be a part of Walk For a Dog, a free app that allows you to raise funds for HSMC while doing what you enjoy, walking with your furry friend! To participate, go to WoofTrax.com or your app store, download the free app, and start supporting HSMC today! So how does it work? After downloading the app to your smartphone, set up who you re walking with and select Humane Society of Mason County under the list of WA participating organizations. Then, simply press the Start Walking button and take your phone with you when you walk your dog(s). When you re done, press Stop Walking, and you can track your walks and your activity level. The more active walkers, the more funds we raise! So what exactly is an active walker? Anyone who uses the app on average of at least once a week, so to remain an active walker for HSMC, just use the app once at week (at least!). It s that easy! And the more active walkers HSMC has, the more funds we raise so tell all your friends, family, neighbors, co-workers and everyone you see out walking to join in the fun, and fundraising! What if you don t have a dog? Can you still use the app and help HSMC? Absolutely! You can walk for dogs for HSMC by choosing the Walk for Cassie option after enrolling in the app for the first time. Or, create your dream dog, walk in memory of a furry companion, or use a friend s dog as a walking companion by going to the setup tab and adding a dog. The app also doesn t use any data during your walk, and will only use a small amount at the end of your walk to credit HSMC. But if you re on Wi-Fi at the end of your walk, it will not use any cellular data at all! Don t feel like taking a walk on those cold rainy days? No problem if you have an iphone 6 or greater - you can walk inside or outside, and even on a treadmill! Just have your phone with you so the app can use your internal motion sensor to record your walk, and you only have to walk 0.25 miles to be tracked as an active walker! How easy is that? So please join us today, and start walking for a dog to help HSMC raise funds for our Shelter in Belfair, and continue our spay & neuter program to help our community members in need! This is a great fundraiser for HSMC and an easy way to a healthier you!

Adopt-a-Highway Litter Pickup Yuck! We are proud! Love our Volunteers Hard to believe what people will throw out the window of their car or just dump along the road. The Fabulous HSMC volunteers work hard to pick up this dumped trash to make our roads beautiful. The next pickup is scheduled for June, exact date to be determined. Volunteers are welcome. Summer TBD - Annual Pet Fair at the new property in Belfair, 350 E. North Mason School Road. There will be food, demonstrations, booths to visit and fun for the whole family! Lots of fun! More to come! November Dates TBD - Santa Paws at Scott McLendon s Hardware in Belfair on Saturday and Santa Paws at Scott McLendon s Hardware in Port Orchard on Sunday Bring your family and furry (and feathered!) friends to Scott McLendon s for our annual pictures with Santa Paws.
