What was that Judge Thinking? Jeff divided the attendees up into groups and had them wheel a course. A judge must wheel twice, once for 20 dogs and once for 12 dogs. From Seminar Recap by Rovering Reporter Laura Bell these wheelings comes the breakdowns for Yards and Course times. JISeminar1-32 people attended the Jeff Ipser Seminar hosted at YABTC on October 22nd, 2018. Jeff Ipser came to YABTC on Sunday October 22, 2018 and presented a seminar on What was the judge thinking? It was well received with 32 people in attendance. The seminar was open to club members and non-members, and participants were given the option to bring a dog and run them on the agility course used for the seminar for free. Everyone received a 21-page handout that included judges worksheets and course examples. Jeff explained and showed how judges design courses, and how they must meet AKC rules when designing them. All courses that are used at a trial are submitted to an AKC Representative a minimum of 45-days before the trial, and they must contain a minimum amount of challenges and side switches, the correct number of obstacles, and not exceed the amount of times a dog can perform them, before the judge can gain approval to use the course. Did you know you could use only 9 weave poles instead of 12? That a side switch at a tunnel or table doesn't count? That a judge must stand a minimum/ maximum distance from obstacles so they can make the correct judgment call? Or that a course challenge must meet its SAD value = Sightable. Accessible. Desirable. JISeminar2 - Jeff divided people into groups and had them walk and wheel an agility course as a judge would. You'll hear people say at a trial this judge wheeled tight. I don't believe anyone that wheeled matched Jeff's wheelings, as he was slightly more than everyone else, for both 12 and 20 inch dogs path. Jeff provided a wealth of information for this seminar and it certainly helped change the way one looks at and walks a course. Not only will you be more aware of some of the challenges that a judge has in store for you, but you'll be able to practice for them. JISeminar3 - A variety of challenges and how to identify them were presented by Jeff at his "What was the judge thinking" seminar. November 2017 Youngstown All Breed Training Club 3

It would be an honor to return to the Board in the position of Corresponding Secretary. Bio for Lisa Sangregorio (Incumbent Board member) I have been an active member of Youngstown All Breed Training Club for 7 years, having served on the board for the past 3 years. I have helped with all the obedience trials, puppy matches, and served on the policy committee during that time. I train my three dobermans, Breaker, Stormy, and Jolie, here in conformation, agility and obedience. Recently, I acquired a new addition. My Saluki, Spike, and I are looking forward to all sorts of new venues to train in. I am a CGC evaluator for the AKC and I enjoy teaching Puppy, Beginners I, and Beginners II on a regular basis to new students and club members. Teaching is a passion of mine. I have been employed for the past 13 years at Sharon City Schools where I teach first graders at CM Musser Elementary. I spent the 10 years prior to that teaching at Notre Dame School in Hermitage. I graduated from Westminster College with a degree in Education and Sociology, and have my Masters from Wilkes University. I am a member of the Doberman Pincher Club of America. My husband Jeffrey, supports all that I do here at the club and I am very thankful. I have two adult children, Anthony who just moved home (big smile) and Brittani who lives in NYC. I have enjoyed serving the club on the board of directors and hope to do so in the future! Board Member - Bio for Sharon Phillips (Incumbent Board member) I first became interested in purebred dogs when my Father got rid of my pound puppy (which looking a photos I realize now was a Manchester Terrier). He wasn t a registered dog, was somehow supposed to make it easier on me. That was a mistake. LOL, a big one. 10 Youngstown All Breed Training Club November 2017

From that point my allowance went towards those How to Raise and Train books that were common, and Dog World magazine. I read everything the library had to offer, both in the kids and adult sections. At 9 I announced I wanted a Saluki for my birthday. I got a poodle, just to shut me up I suspect. LOL. Then I got the training book Training You to Train Your Dog and then the clippers so I could groom my own dog. Sparky should have turned me off of dogs, he was one bad little poodle. He bit my brother 6 times in his 5 short years of life. Sparky never bit me, maybe he realized I was not afraid of him or maybe it was the training. Many years later I have had many breeds and dabbled in many venues with those dogs. I have put titles on over 18 different dogs and 9 different breeds. Plus dogs I trained and never titled. I did Doberman, Whippet and Collie rescue for a number of years. Some of those dogs never left, some found homes. I have titled dogs in the Terrier, Sporting, Non Sporting and Hound groups. However most of my dogs have been from the Herding Group. Many of my dogs never saw the inside of the show ring. But I have enjoyed showing off those dogs that did. My first love is Obedience, but I admire any dog that loves his work. In the end when all is said and done and you have to say that last goodbye to a faithful friend, I don t regret going to one more dog show. It s one more walk in the woods, playtime in the yard, snuggle on the couch watching a movie I miss. Thanksgiving flavored Canine Treats! Pumpkin/Banana & Turmeric Dog Biscuits Recipe 1 Ripe Banana 1/2 cup Pumpkin Purée (canned or fresh) Approx 2 cups Coconut Flour or Gram Flour 2 Tablespoon Turmeric Powder 1 Tablespoon Coconut Oil 1 Teaspoon Freshly ground Black Pepper To make your own Pumpkin Puree: Cube peeled pumpkin and boil until soft then purée in blender. Then mix all the ingredients together in a large bowl (it's a bit messy until you get correct amount of flour) you may need a little more than listed. When happy with the consistency flour work surface and roll out to 1/4 inch thick then cut out biscuits place on baking sheet on parchment paper bake for 30-40 minutes at 150 Celsius or gas mark 2 or 300 Fahrenheit. Until biscuits are hard turn off oven allow biscuits to go cold in oven. Then let your doggies enjoy THIS is why most of us have dogs. Who knows why dogs want to be with us, many times we are not worthy. If re-elected I will try to serve with the best interest of the club and our companions in mind. Sharon Phillips, member since 2000 or 2001, I really can t remember. November 2017 Youngstown All Breed Training Club 11
