We also will be having a full issue in the PureBred Pigeon headed up by John Navant so let s get ads in, and articles. How about little known facts about your major rare breed or breeds and why you like them what you find easy about them and what makes you scratch your head? Due to some circumstances beyond our control and some not I regret that the winter bulletin came out along with the spring newsletter. Any one with good talent with newsletters is welcome to join in, just drop me a note or call me! AN APOLOGY FROM FRANK POVAH My apologies to the membership for the slap-dash issue of our Bulletin. My hard drives have with all my back files of the Bulletin on them have not yet arrived from the USA, so this is a juryrigged job. The container with our personal effects (and those of five other people) were pulled out for a random check by US Customs at LA and delayed by two weeks. This probably means that they are also being given an extra look by Her Majesty s Australian Customs in Melbourne. I don t know why we should have been pulled at LA it s very rare. To top it off, I am struggling with pneumonia that is doing its best to flatten me. Not excuses, just reasons. I ll be back on top next time round. RARE BREEDS CLUB BULLETIN SUMMER 2013 PAGE 1
MASTER BREEDER CORNER NPA Grand National Pigeon Show SUMMER 2013 I am hoping all of you have had an excellent breeding season. The Fall Show Season is starting as several of us were in attendance at Western Pennsylvania s 100th Annual Anniversary Show this past weekend. For anyone with show results for any past events please get them to me ASAP. I m trying to keep the records as up to date as possible. You can contact me by phone, email, snail mail, or even stop in for a visit if you are in the neighbor hood. Any questions on Master Breeder Points do not hesitate, they are very much appreciated Respectfully submitted, Jack Melkerson 2936 Sherman Drive, Lapeer MI 48446 810-667-4637 melkersj@hotmail.com A REMINDER The new points system is now in place Last show season your club approved a new points system to be used in judging. It follows the old system, but simplifies the process for better clarity in awarding points. Inferior Good= 90 Superior minus (S ) = 91 Superior = 92 POINTS SYSTEM AND CLASS AWARDS See also page 6 Superior plus (S ) = 93 Highly Superior minus (H ) = 94 Highly Superior=95 Highly Superior plus (H+) = 96 Royal = 97 CLASS AWARDS Best Flying, Best Owl, Best Structure, Best Utility, Best Wattle, Best Junior, Best Color, Best Syrian, Champion and Reserve Show secretaries please inform our judges of this Time Magazine has reported that a Chinese Racing Homer named Bolt sold for $US400,000. Now that was a good swap meet! ACCREDITED JUDGES Here is a list of the people who have judged Rare Breed Specialty Shows in the past. If you are putting on a show and are looking for qualified judges then you can choose a member from the list or check with James Fathbruckner as the member in charge of our club s Judging Program. John Heppner Terry Daily John De Carlo jr Don Roscoe James Fathbruckner Scott Amo Joe Powers Tony Patti Phil Gonzales Stanley Vercouteren Ron White Wayne Fischer Amy Klopman John Navant Brad Child Paul Gibson Nickolas Fontenot Steve Yonke Jack Milkerson Don Chevalier Eric Kooker Larry Gardner This is a fine group of people to pick from for judging your next Rare Breeds event, but they are of course not the only qualified Judges. However, if you want to use another judge then you must get your choice approved. This list is only inclusive of the people who judged events in 2009. We are in the process of compiling a more complete list and if you want to add a name or add your own name, then please contact me and I will submit it to the judging coordinator. It is our goal to have a comprehensive list of names of qualified judges and a judging program to train future judges. Please submit your ideas to me. Thanks, Scott PAGE 2 RARE BREEDS CLUB BULLETIN SUMMER 2013

From your editorial team The Rare Breeds Annual Business Meeting will be held at the NYBS this October. Club members stay at the Days Inn at Jeffersonville, Indiana. The hotel is new and gives us a meeting room and discount rates. Right across the river from Louisville the Days Inn is a 10 minute drive to the show hall. The cost is much lower than at the hotels around the fair grounds. We will have dinner Friday evening starting about 6pm and then the meeting. Please join us in conversation about the Rare Breeds Club. My friend and co-editor Frank Povah has moved back to his home in Australia. Frank has done many wonderful things for this club and the NPA. He is the brilliant mind behind the Bulletin that make it look so professional. I do content and Frank does art. Good luck Frank and thanks for all your continued hard work. Another member has passed on since our last Bulletin. Brad Child was a great guy and a great pigeon man and will be sorely missed. Mugs that memorialize Brad will be given as trophies at the Oklahoma Grand National. Enter to win your mug. John Navant is working hard to put together a Rare Breeds Edition in the PureBred Pigeon magazine. the deadline is September so get your articles and pictures in now. Thanks John for all your efforts suporting the Rare Breeds Club. I d like to get some input for the Bulletin from our District Directors. We like to hear about upcoming show and swaps in your area. We also need your show reports turned in for Master Breeder points. Just a hint here if we can t read the name someone will not get points. What is going on this season in Texas? How about Maine? I know there are pigeon people there so lets find out about club activities across the country. Make your NYBS reservations now at: Days Inn 354 Eastern Blvd. Jeffersonville In 47130. Phone: 812 288 7100. Scott Amo Co-editor From the other one I ve made my apologies for the tardiness of this issue on the front page, but I feel I should add a little bit more here to express my feelings about being back here and leaving there. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the US bypasses, gall bladder removal and pneumonia aside and I say with all honesty that I miss all the pigeon people that I met in person and those I know only through the pages that I puttogether for the RBPC Bulletin and the Quarterly Review. You re a great bunch of folks. Again I have to mention the kind generosity of Don Chevailer of Michigan I treasure the gift he gave me for what I consider if just doing my job. Nor will I forget a memorable Florida evening spent at a certain establishment (whose waitresses are known for other attributes than serving food) with certain members of a certain pigeon club, two of whiom may or may not have been married. Those same loveable hooligans who I m sure are really respectable gentlemen in disguise went out of their way to drop off an item for me on their way back from the National just mentioned.thanks fellers, your memory will never fade from mind. Although I am glad to be home and despite the flare up of the pnewmonie I first contracted in Kentucky I will miss you one and all. Think of me at the NYBS and at the next National. I ll be there with you in spirit. For those who want to stay in touch personally, my email address is fairdinkumfrank@gmail.com or pigeon.posts@littlewallaby.com Mail is PO Box 175 Franklin TAS 7113 AUSTRALIA Phone +61 3 6266 3690 Anything you d like to know about Australia in general and Tasmania in particular, please, just ask. And if you re ever over this way, the door is always open and the coffee s always on well I drink tea, but if it s coffee you want, well I can cope, I suppose.
