The Temple of Coatl

The Temple of Coatl Instructions Keeping up with Indy is not always an easy task! This time he encounters some mysterious findings behind the ancient Aztec Temple of Coatl. He'll need your help, though. Filling in the blanks of the story will ultimately help Indy at the end of the tale, at his most desperate hour. Every blank can be filled in utilizing the combination of the story context and watching the movie Raiders of the Lost Ark. The clues are NOT listed in the chronological order of the movie, so it is highly advised that you read the entire story first to see what facts and scenes you ll be looking for. Once you ve solved the question at the end, check out the Indy Life Challenge page for the answers (28 experience points possible one point for every correct answer.) The page once again is here: http://www.joeadventurer.com/adventure/indychallenge.asp Good luck and don t forget the popcorn!

The Temple of Coatl Once Indy intercepted the communiqué from Cairo to the city of, he quickly went to Dr. Liverpool s office. He was very grateful that it was Thursday, the day of his office hours, unlike. Dr. Liverpool, or Jack as he allowed Indy among the few to call him, translated the communiqué. Hmmmm he thought out loud. It seems that a very rare species, not unlike the found on the bottom floor of the Well of Souls, has been found, oddly enough, outside a recently uncovered Aztec temple. I ll take the liberty to arrange a flight for you straight there. It will be the same plane you took from South America last time, you ll know it by the last three letter markings on the side,. You look a little worried Indy noticed. Should I be? Collecting himself Of course not. Here, take the same amount that you originally offered to buy that medallion from oh what s-her-name, you were going to initially pay thousand US dollars. It can be a long flight, so you might want to bring along a copy of, the magazine you saw that dreadful Nazi torturer reading on your last flight out of the country. Say, did you ever find the city of, one of the possible resting places of the Ark of the Covenant? All I remember is arranging that initial flight to Asia on Air Asia Actually, it s something that I d rather not talk about. Between being chased by Germans, dodging bullets, being betrayed by a who s eye patched own ended up trying to poison me nope, nothing I want to talk about. Give me a trip to any day. I haven t been there since 1936. Indy turned and left with painful thoughts of watching the Ark drive away in a German army truck across the desert. He could still see the license plate number, 11294. Yes, a disappointment he d rather forget. The plane ride was very uncomfortable, especially on his left, which got lodged into the seat. Ironically, it was the one body part that DIDN T hurt when he was

on a large ship leaving Cairo. Although, he admitted, it wasn t as uncomfortable as his flight to the city of, where the Temple of Solomon is or that other trip to the where he went right after the Hawaiian Islands on his way to, where the girl and medallion were. Well, now he thought, stretching his legs with every step out of the small, Mexican airport. So, some previously exclusive Egyptian species of animal have been found outside the great Aztec temple of Coatl? This could prove the remote theory that one ancient culture directly influenced another even though continents apart interesting, very interesting. You buy? You buy? Indy s thoughts were interrupted by the soft voice of a peddler selling some local wares. When he looked down, he was staring straight into the sweet face of a seven year old boy selling a watch. At first, Indy was about to dismiss him. However, when he reached into his pocket to pull out the pocket watch he bought from an Egyptian vendor for, he noticed that it wasn t there. He must have forgotten it in all the rushed plans to catch his flight. He then returned the boys smile and gave him the asked price for the boy s watch. This trip isn t exactly starting out on the right foot Indy thought to himself, yet still trying to keep positive. It wasn t long before Paolo, Indy s driver and old friend, pulled up to the front of the airport to take him directly to the excavation site. So glad to see you, my friend! We have no time to lose. Dr. Rodriguez is waiting for your arrival at the temple even as we speak. The ride was long and hot, not to mention murder on the bum. The temple was still a magnificent sight to Indy, even though he had already spent four solid years, ending only a few summers ago, researching it s façade and few inner corridors. The worn Rodriguez, a renown anthropologist, approached the car as it slowed to a dusty stop. So glad you made it hear so quickly. Come, I must show you at once! With this, he anxiously grabbed Indy s arm and led him to the rear of the temple. I think there is a second door! SECOND door? Indy scratched his head. Come with me and see 25 yards away from the site! He led Indy beyond the rear of the temple and pointed down at a plot of loose dirt and jungle floor overgrowth. A nosy German archeologist spotted a rare Egyptian animal here, then disappearing into the dirt

below. When sound waves were used to study the tunnels underneath, a stone tunnelcorridor was picked up on the sensors! It is believed to be a tunnel leading to the backside of the Temple of Coatl! Knowing that in only a matter of days there would be European strangers here, recklessly unearthing this site, I began to worry. When I got the call yesterday from Jack saying that you intercepted the German s communiqué, though, I just knew you d come straight away. Partners again, eh, my friend? Rodriguez grinned and patted his old friend on the shoulder. Within hours, men and supplies showed up in a jeep, ready to begin the hastened digging. Finally, their shovels hit stone and removing the dirt around the edges revealed a large, stone lid. You know what? Indy started. The marking on this lid greatly resemble those on the Staff of, which helped me find the Well of Souls, which once belonged to the pharaoh,. Very curious Hmmmm.looks more like my pet snake,. quipped Rodriguez. Not without great difficulty, they lifted the lid revealing a dark drop into the tunnel corridor. A flashlight showed that the floor was only about eight feet below, inviting Indy to an immediate jump down. Now, if I remember my, chapters 4 & 5, these types of animal images go as far back as the neo, meaning new and, meaning stone, age. However, I ve never seen or read about these images guarding such, or chambers. It wasn t more than 30 feet down the tunnel before they came to an open room with a single door on the right hand side. Above it was carved the same animal image, curiously with one missing, the same body part that was the first to fall off the great stone face when he took the idol from the South American temple. The jam of the doorway was lined with magnificent, the same material that the medallion from Nepal was made of. A large stone door kept anyone curious from seeing what lay behind the entrance way. However, what grabbed their attention was a system of holes, the same number as the hour the sun hit the map room in Egypt, each about an human arm s size in diameter. Each hold seemed to curve up or to the side in such a way as to obscure the vision of anyone trying to see how far back the holes exactly went. The holes were positioned across as well as down, not unlike a tic-tac-toe board.

Look, there s an inscription above the holes! feeling embarrassed that he shouted it for his voice echoed loud down the tunnel and inside the chamber. Give me Egyptian hieroglyphs any day I had no problem in, the City of the Living. I m not quite as proficient in these Aztec glyphs, but I ll give it a try. Here lay your destiny Indy began the translation. The royal vault of gold can only be found by reaching into the an opening below. Fate will decide the worth of a man a determine his path to riches or death. Indy thought for a moment. Hmmm if only there was a way to know which of the holes I need to reach into there s no room for error You can help Indy choose which of the holes to reach into by reading the gray shaded letters down each clue you wrote along the adventure. Once Indy heeded your advice, he reached in, felt a stone lever and gave it a hard pull. The roar of the moving stone door filled the room and their flashlights reflected glimmers of golden reflections from the other side
