This sale has been forced upon me by ill health (Cancer removed Dec 2008). Although I am in remission and well at present it has forced me to think about the future. My health issues coupled with complaints from a neighbour to my local council and the burden placed on friends during my hospitalisation has made me realise it is time to call it a day. I will keep some young pigeons so that if in the future am able to race again I will be able to do so. Pigeons from this loft have been very successfully raced by many fanciers including Dr Colin Walker (VHA) 1st 500 miles, Peter Badenhorst (CCF) 1st fed & 2nd fed, Les Tanner (CCF) 1st Young Bird National, Jane & Andrew Carrington (SCF) 1st SCF Combine Pointscore 2008 and Stephen Saywell (SCF). Many fanciers have topped their Federations with progeny originating from this loft. I imported my original stock pigeons ten years ago and in the past eight years their progeny have won me 3 Federation Averages plus 2nd and 3rd always featured prominently with many Federation Toppers. This has been achieved flying five different routes. Last season flying in the Central Cumberland Federation (while not in good health) I achieved 22nd Short Average, 13th Middle Distance Average and 3rd Long Distance Average competing against 434 flyers, I also won the Liverpool Classic Combine Merrylands Jack Elliott Memorial Race. The pigeons in this auction are the best pigeons for breeding and racing I have ever owned, as previously advertised I will be keeping some race birds at the end of this season, so if I can I will be able to continue in this great sport of pigeon racing, wishfull thinking...eh! TESTIMONIAL I would like to take this opportunity to thank Tom for his generosity over the past decade. In that time Tom has either gifted me or loaned to me a number of very valuable birds. These birds have been predominantly directly off or descendants of the Producer (Staff Van Reet) Cock that Tom founded much of his breeding. The performances of these birds for Tom and others is legendary. I have had some success in the SCF over the past 40 years and I can attest to the improvement that these birds have made to my performances in the past decade. Many of the birds that I have bred off Tom s Staffi es have achieved multiple prizes. The good ones in this family don t win a prize and then disappear. An example was the hen that won the SCF Champion of Champions in 2005. She was scored at 400 miles off the South and then did it again the next year from 400miles off the North winning the club and placed 5th Grand Prix. She and a few others helped me win the SCF Long Average in 2005 and 2nd Overall in 2005. In 2002 my good friend, Keith Kit, gifted me a full sister to Tom s Octagonal a direct son of the Producer Cock. This hen has earned her perch since then consistently breeding winners over that time. Last year she bred the hen that won the SCF Pink Ring Charity Race. That day I got a multiple drop to fi nish 2nd club, 3rd fed and 1st Fed Combine. The arrival of birds in multiples has started to occur frequently with the introduction of these birds. They have earned a reputation as sprinters and they are now doing that from all distances up to 400 mile. I value them too much to risk them at the extreme distances. Another example is a son of this hen who won multiple club prizes culminating in 2nd Fed, 2nd Towradgi Premier Stakes (Seaspray - 370 miles) as a yearling. He has gone on to produce 3 Combine winners and many other major club prizes. Descendants of this cock are also breeding winners. I cannot list all the prizes these birds have won for me - there is not enough room! All I can honestly say is that the birds that I have got from Tom have performed well, been consistently leading birds and very often you get them to win multiple prizes. While most of them have been down off the Staffi es Tom gifted me a baby (5749) two years ago. She was off the Herbot s National One line and she was just too nice to race. I put her straight to stock. In 2008 (her fi rst year at stock) she bred a hen to win two races and another brother was with the fi rst lot in each of his 4 starts. I also stopped him to breed off. 5749 bred my winner last week with the 2yo brother and a granddaughter dropping with the winner. The 2yo cock bred the hen that won the fi rst race and was 3rd Fed when mated to the Old Staffi e hen. Tom has been very generous to me and while there have not been a great number of birds introduced what have been bred off have proved to be fi rst class breeders of winning racers.
