CATTLE: 50 forward Prime Cattle : 31 forward Complete lethargy in the industry. Spec Cattle would meet a trade well in advance of comparison whilst the majority of the yarding Cattle that under the current grid system are heavily penalised and consequently very few buyers for those goods. In the Steers a top of 190p/kg for JB Baylis & Partners returning 1320. R Grades all over 180p/kg. Over fat or lesser grading sorts heavily penalised. Heifers a real trade when you look at the Gross column with returns simply mathematically unobtainable on the grid. Thick Heifers from Parry Walters to 210p/kg equal with heavy weight Heifers from J Bayliss with 210p/kg at 642kg. R Grades 194p/kg plus and U Grades 20p/kg plus. Top gross 1367 and 1349 for Messrs Baylis & Partners with lightweight Heifers just shy of 1200 from Parry Walters. HEIFERS: 15 Top prices per head Limousin x 680 kgs 1,366.80 JB Baylis & Partners British Blue x 642 kgs 1,348.20 JB Baylis & Partners Limousin x 561 kgs 1,178.10 DTP & PA Walters Limousin x 605 kgs 1,173.70 DTP & PA Walters Limousin x 617 kgs 1,135.28 JB Baylis & Partners Top prices per kilo Limousin x 561 kgs 210 p/kg DTP & PA Walters British Blue x 642 kgs 210 p/kg JB Baylis & Partners Limousin x 680 kgs 201 p/kg JB Baylis & Partners Limousin x 552 kgs 200 p/kg DTP & PA Walters Limousin x 605 kgs 194 p/kg DTP & PA Walters Cows : 5 forward Just a few and trade slipping saw a slip form Messrs Barnes at 152p/kg and 1063. STEERS: 14 Top prices per head British Blue x 737 kgs 1,319.23 JB Baylis & Partners Blonde x 703 kgs 1,307.58 JB Baylis & Partners Charolais x 733 kgs 1,304.74 S Webster Limousin x 680 kgs 1,292.00 JB Baylis & Partners Limousin x 693 kgs 1,288.98 JB Baylis & Partners Top prices per kilo Limousin x 680 kgs 190 p/kg JB Baylis & Partners Blonde x 703 kgs 186 p/kg JB Baylis & Partners Limousin x 693 kgs 186 p/kg JB Baylis & Partners Limousin x 617 kgs 185 p/kg Heart of England Farms British Blue x 737 kgs 179 p/kg JB Baylis & Partners Calves : 13 forward A trade of two halves, better Calves quite simply storming ahead, with very few mid-range Calves, down to a small consignment of Jersey x Calves. Top today from AD & RM Thomas, a British Blue x Bull at 275.Following closely a smart Blonde x Heifer at 250 from GE Pountney. Aberdeen Angus x Bulls to 205 with sisters to 168. Only Jerseys under. ON MONDAY 1 Aberdeen Angus x Heifer Calf 7 weeks old from SF Summers

SHEEP: 2,625 forward Prime Hoggs: 1,855 forward SQQ 194.3p/kg Just over 1800 Hoggs penned today, with quality mixed from the best to some real lean sorts not fit to kill. Trade expected to be lower following the slow at the end of last weeks trading. Real competition though keeping RFM in the top 3 Centres of the day and returning an SQQ of 194.37p/kg well ahead of any deadweight competition. That said the SQQ perhaps a little inflated by a number of good runs of Hoggs in spec. Standard SQQ Hoggs generally 188p/ kg plus. Meat and finish hotly contested with another customer at pen side but lean sheep sticky to shift. In the Euro spec ppk top spot to Henry Tustian at 220p/kg and 218p/kg for 41kg and 42.5kg. S Clark, Aylesbury sold 42kg to 217p/kg all for Beltex. Lightweight from DJ Tomlin, Stratford Upon Avon 216p/ kg at 36.5kg with his heavier Texels 212p/kg at 41kg. G Curtis & Son showed feeding pays to see a large pen at 39kg to 215p/kg for Texel. In the heavies top ppk to J & H Tustian with 46kg at 209p/kg and 47.5kg at 204p/kg. Pete Batchelor sold strong Ram Hoggs at 48kg to 204p/kg. Finished lightweight Hoggs still coming to the money today with J & H Tustian having 92.50 for 42.5kg whilst S Clark had 91 for 42kg and 43.5kg Beltex. Overall a top of 107.50 for 62kg Rams from P Batchelor with others 103. Boulton Bros sold 65kg at 101 and M A Warren 100 for 63kg. Trading much harder with three regulars not striking to buy one single Hogg. Trade though must now find its course ahead in regards to kills of Springers or Hoggs. Prime Hoggs: 1,855 SQQ (194.3p/kg) Per kilo - EURO under 45.5kg Beltex x 41.00 kgs 220 p/kg J & H Tustian Beltex x 42.50 kgs 218 p/kg J & H Tustian Beltex x 42.00 kgs 217 p/kg S Clark Beltex x 36.50 kgs 216 p/kg DJ Tomlin Texel x 39.00 kgs 215 p/kg G Curtis & Son Per head Beltex x 42.50 kgs 92.50 J & H Tustian Beltex x 42.00 kgs 91.00 S Clark Beltex x 43.50 kgs 91.00 S Clark Beltex x 41.00 kgs 90.00 J & H Tustian Beltex x 43.00 kgs 89.00 S Clark Per kilo - HEAVIES 45.5kgs plus Beltex x 46.00 kgs 209 p/kg J & H Tustian Beltex x 45.50 kgs 208 p/kg J & H Tustian Charollais x 45.50 kgs 204 p/kg FC Knight & Son Beltex x 47.50 kgs 204 p/kg J & H Tustian Texel x 48.00 kgs 203 p/kg P Batchelor Per head Texel x 62.00 kgs 107.50 P Batchelor Beltex x 54.00 kgs 103.00 P Batchelor Charollais x 65.50 kgs 101.00 Boulton Bros Charollais x 63.00 kgs 100.00 MA Warren Texel x 48.00 kgs 97.50 P Batchelor Spring Lambs: 275 forward SQQ 230.7p/kg Today saw an excellent entry of 274 Spring Lambs for the Annual Spring lambs Show judged this year by Mr B Wilson, Essex and sponsored both by the NSA and Charollais Sheep Society. Overall Champion this year awarded to Pete Jarrom for his pen of three Texels at 36kg selling to 100. In second this year and also Charollais lamb Champion was AJ & M Gregory seeing 36.5kg to 103. SQQ for the total entry down on the week at 233p/kg with buyers reporting a slow uptake on wholesale Spring lamb sales. Top today 282p/kg for Messrs Gregory with anyting showing shape over 250p/kg. Some heavier lambs about today with plenty over 46kg selling around 100. Lambs though killing a little fat in places and this should be monitored. Top gross 118 from W Webster donating the lambs to Macmillan Cancer, this was bought by Ian Griffiths and match funded by Messrs British Premium Meats Ltd, London. We are very grateful to both the buyers and Bill and Beryl Webster for the kind gesture. Lamb trade going forward will need to be monitored on a daily basis.

Store Hoggs : 83 forward End of season numbers and quality today, looking very dear for the goods. Top today from J & H Tustian at 74, with short keep lambs all over 70. The few mid-keep lambs about the 65 mark, with long keep lambs looking dearest all around 50. If you have lambs left to sell, take advantage of the trade. Mules though perhaps 5 back on the week with buyers remaining fit for heavy meated Ewes. Today an average which includes each and every Ewe at 87.30. Top today for a pen of 3 Beltex from Pete Batchelor at 130 with Holly Amor 117 for Texels. Bob Tofield sold Charollais to 117 for a pen of 3 and D Dashwood a single Durno Tup at 116. Top Suffolk Ewes between CBE Price and D Dashwood at 110. Even strong Kerry Hills to 99 for Pete Darby. Top Mules to Holly Amor again at 86.
