January 2018 Page 2 MEMBERSHIP MEETING MINUTES- November 2 nd, 2017 Meeting called to order Secretaries Report: Membership present approved the November s meeting minutes as published in the newsletter. October s board meeting minutes were read. Treasurers Report: Marie gave the financial report for November. Presidents Report: Don said that this next year Jack & Nancy Zolkowski will have 25 years in the club. Because they will not be able to make our clubs Appreciation Banquet in February, Don invited Nancy to the front and presented her with her and Jack s 25 year pins from the club. Winter Show-Ring Stewards: Louise Torkelson asked for volunteers to ring steward at our winter show on January 13 & 14, 2018 in Oshkosh, WI. Louise also mentioned that the weekend before our show on January 6 th at 10 AM there will be a training session here at the club, so come on out and refresh your memory or learn what is needed the day of the show. A sign-up sheet was also sent around. Winter Show: Our show is coming up soon and help will be needed for multiple days. Thursday evening at 6 pm we will be setting up. If you can help, you may bring in crate/s for the personal dogs you have entered, but may not set-up crates or save space for other people. Help will be needed both Saturday & Sunday after BIS, sweeping both days. Hospitality (club meetings): Susan Hayes reminded everyone that if you want to earn an easy 2 hours, just bring a snack to the next membership meeting and have her sign your slip. It is that easy. Awards: Jackie Kobierecki announced that January 5 th is the last day to turn in information for the awards that will be given out at this year s Appreciation Banquet on February 3 rd. There is a box in the office for plaques that need to be updated. Be sure to include copies of any titles along with the award application form, which was published in the newsletter is also available on the WDC website. DOT s: Jackie, speaking for all the directors, reminded the trainers and helpers that a Facebook group has been set up for their use to help with communications. If you are not yet a member, go to the Winnegamie Dog Club Trainers Group on Facebook and request to become a member. Appreciation Banquet: Becky Reider with Lori Piette said that coming up on February 3 rd at Stone Toad Restaurant in Menasha we will be having our Appreciation Banquet. The dinner is not just for those that are receiving an award but for club members to come together and have a wonderful evening. If you would like to donate a door prize please do!! You need to contact Becky Reider and let her know so she can plan on it. Membership: Prospective members introduced themselves and were welcomed by the membership present. Paul reminded everyone that we will be having a 50/50 raffle with the drawing shortly after the meeting is over. Tonight because it is the Christmas raffle we will be having two more drawings for poinsettias, so buy your tickets now. Parades: Penney Garbe thanked all the members that came out and walked in the Christmas parade in Appleton. Penney said she was very pleased with the membership turnout for the night. Agility Trial: Nancy Zolkowski thanked all the members that came out and helped at our club s agility trials held at the Oshkosh Kennel Club. It is really appreciated. Winter show-concession Stand: Marie for Mary McEssey said that volunteers for the concession stand are needed both days or she will not be able to do it for our shows. Food is needed for our shows or the exhibitors will be really upset. Marie mentioned that this is Mary s last year for doing the concession stand so if you feel you might be interested to come and talk with her and learn what is needed to be done. Marie also sent a sign-up sheet around. Member Hours: Jane Niles said she does our volunteer hours and reminded members to get their hours turned into her.

January 2018 Page 3 Meeting Minutes continued: First of all, they must be signed by the person in charge. You can then scan them in and send to her by email or put in the box in the office marked for these. You can also go online and check to see how many hours you still need or if you have them all done for the year. Go to our website, click on membership tab, select volunteer, then select Volunteer Hours Log. Agility Course Test-(ACT 1-ACT 2): Mary Huntington said that these trials will be coming up Saturday, February 17, 2018 here at the club. These trials are designed for the beginning level dog to show sequencing and performance skills. The trials will be two weeks before our Novice Trials here at the club. Traveling Trophies: Laura Steidl said the time is getting close to the deadline which is January 10, 2018. So read in the newsletter what is required for each trophy and apply. Laura gave a brief description of the new trophies that were added this year. So please Apply!!! First Aid Table at Dog Show: Len Hoehne mentioned that they could use some help at the dog show in January, if you can help give him a call or email and he will explain what is necessary. K-9 Kloset: Kayla Baudhuin was just a styling some neat items available in our K-9 Kloset. Check these out!!! Membership: Marie reminded members that the dues need to be into her hands soon, the last date for dues is our January membership meeting. Nominating: Tom Wiesler mentioned who is all running for the board this next year and asked if there were any nominations from the floor. Louise Torkelson accepted a nomination from the floor for board position. There were no other nominations from the floor, so nominations are closed. Old Business: None New Business: Two questions were raised from the floor. First, can non-members check out a library book and the answer would be no, we have not been doing this. Second, is it only at a membership meetings that books can be checked out? You would need to talk with the librarian about checking out books at different times and make arrangements to meet. January 2018 Page 4 Slate of Nominees for the 2018 Executive Board The 2018 elections will be held at the membership meeting on Thursday January 4th. Wayne VanDenLangenberg, President. Club Member since 1982. Past offices held include, Club President, Vice President & board member. Past committees, assistant director of training (puppies). Now I help the building committee, when needed and the show committee. Areas of interest include: Conformation, obedience and using various skills to help the dog club. Margie Hohman, Vice-President. Club member since 1979, former WDC obedience trainer, Co-chair of fun match and stewards for winter show. I am actively showing in conformation, agility, rally, obedience. I own a boarding/grooming kennel and have been involved in Irish setter rescue since 1981. Gail VanDenLangenberg, Secretary. Club Member since 1978. (Secretary since 2004) Current/Past chairmanships include, spring show, cluster shows, conformation chair, Newsletter, wall pictures, wall plaques, club historian and winter show. Areas of interest: Conformation, obedience and helping at the dog club. Marie Murphy, Treasurer. Club Member since 2006 and Treasurer since 2010. Areas of Interest: training dogs in agility and obedience. Currently teaching beginner agility classes and helping with Teamwork and Rally classes. Interested in photography and in charge of the WDC photo gallery, as well as updating information on the club website and Facebook page.

Club member since 2011 this time and was a member previous to 2009 for many years. Currently Co-Chair and Secretary for the Fall Funmatch and am Head Ring Steward for the Winter Conformation Show. Areas of interest: Most performance events and Conformation, I have had dogs all of my life which is a very long time. Have taught agility and obedience at WDC and Clever K9's, I breed Smooth Collies and was a 4H Dog Project leader for many years. Paul Thiel, Board of Directors. Currently is Chair for New Memberships. In past has been Director of Training, committee chair for parades and soda purchase, and has volunteered as class trainer/helper, Friday clean up, general help around the club, and previously participated in nursing home visits. Areas of interest include training and being involved in helping people. MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL DEADLINE IS JANUARY 4 th! If you have not yet sent in your membership renewal, please do so before the January meeting. You don't want to lose any of the benefits of membership, such as the use of our beautiful fenced-in yard and training facility, access to our extensive library of dog-training books, the opportunity to earn free or reduced classes, and the many other benefits of being a member. The membership renewal form is included in this newsletter and is also available on our website. New members voted in at the September board meeting or later do not need to renew their membership until next year.

January 2018 Page 6 WDC Agility Trial Dec 2017 Thank you to all the volunteers that participated in the WDC Agility Trial Dec. 2 nd and 3 rd, 2017 held at OKC. We had another successful trial and new members were great and stepped up to work. We have members that help every year at this Agility Trial and we thank you for your time. All chairpersons jobs are much easier with all the volunteers we have. January 2018 Page 7 WINTER SHOW SATURDAY/SUNDAY JANUARY 13 &14, 2018 Remember we need help both days!! This is a great way to earn your hours and get it done at the beginning of the year!!! With this being for two days talk with Becky and see how you can help. No experience required. This will be Mary s last year doing this. Interested?? Come out and learn from her on what to do. Set-up Thursday evening January 11 th : We will need help setting up on Thursday evening, January 11 th at 6 PM. If you can help, you may bring in crate/s for the personal dogs you have entered, but may not set-up crates or save space for other people. You will also be able to earn hours for helping Saturday: We can also use some help to do a quick clean-up Saturday after Best in Show is over, and won t know this until the judging program comes out. We need to clean up a bit around the rings so it will look nice for the next day of judging. Sunday: After Best in Show, we will be pushing to get everything back into pre-show condition at the Expo. Chairs and tables put away, floors swept and hair picked up, garbage cans emptied and hauled out and any number of small jobs to help get us out of there. Help is always truly appreciated on Sunday. Any questions on how you may help don t hesitate to ask. It is much easier on everybody if we all step up and help either one day or both days. It s a fun way to share your knowledge with students and help them train their dogs to its full potential. A private training session will be held. We are also in need of assistants to help with the training equipment during classes: this is keeping track of payments, receipts, and fittings of collars, etc. during classes. Vacuuming after Obedience classes is also needed. This takes about 30-45 minutes each day. Hours are flexible. It can also be downloaded from the website under the Membership tab (listed in both the Forms and Volunteer sections). Members can check their hours completed to date status on the website in the Membership / Volunteer section. The document name is Volunteer Hours Log. Updates will be posted at least once a month. January 2018 Page 10 Individual Perpetual Plaque Award Information We want to recognize you and your dogs for all of your hard work. WDC will celebrate AKC titles/awards earned during the year, submitted by club members in good standing and the dog named on the application must be owned by the member applying for the award(s) and must reside at the member s home. The Appreciation Dinner will be held on February 3, 2018. At that time we will recognize awards earned from November 1, 2016 through October 31, 2017. New members - Awards are recognized beginning with the date of membership approval. Complete the attached application form, listing all titles and awards (one form per dog). If you already have a perpetual plaque, submit your application form, plaque, and copies of all AKC titles in the award box at the training center. Do not submit original titles. If this is your first plaque, then CONGRATULATIONS! You just need to submit your application form and a copy of the titles you earned and you will get your plaque at the banquet. The WDC award box will be in the club office from Thursday October 26 until Thursday, January 4, 2018. Applications will be picked up for the last time at the club meeting on January 4, 2018. There will be no exceptions to these deadlines in order to get our club s order finished for the banquet. Plaques will not be distributed prior to the banquet. Only titles on the AKC certificates or AKC recognized organizations will appear on the plaque. Any changes the owner would like to make regarding punctuation, capitalization, or spelling of the dog s name should be clearly marked on the photocopy of the AKC certificate. Please contact Jackie Kobierecki, Awards Chairperson with any questions. nursejlk@gmail.com 920-739-8626 SPECIAL TROPHIES Special Trophies will be awarded for AKC Best in Show, AKC Best of Breed in a Specialty, AKC High in Trial, Best Junior Handler, Owner Handler, and qualifying for AKC National Championship or Westminster. Only one of these special trophies will be awarded per dog per year. Submit registered name of dog, owner(s), date and name of achievement and kennel club. Junior Showmanship: Name of junior- list shows and number of juniors defeated. List if the junior qualified for Westminster. Best Junior handler will be determined only by the number of other juniors defeated. One point will be awarded for each junior defeated. Club Certificate of Achievement: These will be awarded for any achievements the owner wishes to recognize at the discretion of the committee. (EX. Conformation points, Obedience points, obedience legs, group wins, top ten ratings of any system, working certificates, hunting passes, therapy dog, nose work etc.) Documentation should include the achievement, dog s name, and owner.

APPLICATION CHECKLIST: All applications for obedience and conformation awards must contain this information (1.) Name of award being applied for; (2.) Registered name of dog; (3.) Breed of dog; (4.) Name of dog's owner; (5.) Name of person applying for the award; (6, 7, 8.) Name & Date & Location of AKC show(s); (9.) For Conformation -- include placement won at show; or for Obedience -- include Name of Class entered and Score received; (10.) Name of handler (only for awards requiring owner handled) These are competitive obedience and conformation awards open to all current WDC members in good standing who have attended at least 2 WDC meetings in the past year (or worked at 2 WDC functions) and meet the criteria as outlined for each award. The dog named on the application must be owned by the member applying, or a member of his/her immediate family and the dog must live with them at least 11 months during the year. New members can only count the show wins that occurred after their membership was approved. All wins will be verified by the trophy committee using AKC show records. Wins that are eligible are limited to AKC Obedience Trials and AKC Conformation Shows held between Nov 1, 2016 and Oct 31, 2017. All conformation wins must be against competition to qualify. All obedience scores submitted must be qualifying scores. An application is limited to the wins of one dog, but you can submit an application for as many dogs as you own. (Note: In the contents of this article, the word dog refers to dog or bitch.) Mary Strange Award: A conformation award for the novice handler who handles his/her own dog. A novice handler has never finished a dog to receive its Championship title. The only exception is if the Championship was earned on the dog listed on the award application and occurred during the year the application is for. Dog must receive Winners Dog/Winners Bitch (or better) to qualify. You can only win the Mary Strange Award once. JUDY FALCK MEMORIAL TRAVELING OBEDIENCE AWARD: Two qualifying AKC obedience trial scores are required and dog must be owner handled. WDC TRAVELING CONFORMATION ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: Dog must be owner handled for the wins submitted. Win must be Winners Dog/Winners Bitch or better to qualify. PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE AWARD: An obedience award for a dog who has a Conformation Champion title. One qualifying obedience score is required. Preference will be as follows. Highest score in Utility class will win. No utility, then highest score in Open class will win. No utility or open, then highest score in Novice class will win. Dog must be a Conformation Champion before any obedience score will count, Exception is a dog who earns his Championship on the same day as the obedience score was earned. WDC HIGH SCORING CONFORMATION AWARD: Win must be Winners Dog/Winners Bitch or better to qualify. No limit on who handles dog. LOWELL TRACY RECOGNITION OF EXCELLENCE AWARD: A conformation award for the elite show dog. No limit on who handles dog. Win must be a Group Placement or better to qualify. This includes a Best of Breed at an AKC Breed Specialty Show.

WDC AMATEUR OWNER-HANDLED DOG OF THE YEAR This award is open to all current WDC members in good standing who have attended at least 2 WDC meetings in the past year (or worked 2 WDC functions) and meet the criteria stated above. The dog named on the application must be owned by the member applying or a member of his/her immediate family and the dog must live with them at least 11 months during the year. New members may only count qualifying scores earned after their membership was approved. This award is for dogs who compete at AKC dog shows in the AKC National Owner-Handled Series competition. AKC wins from November 1, 2016 through October 31, 2017 will be used to determine the winner. ONLY THE WINS AQUIRED BY THE WDC MEMBER WHO IS APPLYING FOR THIS AWARD WILL COUNT IN CASES WHERE CLUB MEMBERS CO-OWN THE DOG WITH SOMEONE WHO ALSO HANDLES THE SAME DOG IN OWNER-HANDLED CLASSES FOR AKC NATIONAL OWNER-HANDLED SERIES POINTS. At an individual show a dog earns the cumulative number of AKC National Owner-Handled Series points associated with the following placements. No other placements are eligible for this award and these placements are not eligible for any other Traveling Trophy award. HANK PERFORMANCE VERSATILITY AWARD For outstanding performance in AKC recognized dog sports. This award aims to reward dogs who are versatile in performance events and have achieved mastery in at least one event. This award will be awarded to the dog with titles across six different AKC recognized performance events. One performance title must be the highest level suffix title (short of a championship) in that event. Example: Masters level in agility or Utility Dog Excellent in obedience. Titles can be from the preferred or regular classes. In the event of a tie, the dog with a Championship in a performance event wins the award. If no dog has a performance championship in an event, then the tie will be broken by the dog with the highest agility title. If dogs do not have agility titles, then the dog with the highest Obedience, then Rally, then Barn Hunt title, in that order, wins. This award is not retroactive, AKC events from Nov. 1, 2016 Oct. 31, 2017 will count. Conformation titles are not eligible toward this award. For sports that are recognized, but not sponsored by AKC -- such as Flyball, Dock Diving, Search and Rescue (SAR) and Barn Hunt -- applicants must send in a Recognized Event Form to AKC and pay the fees for AKC to process a certificate so you receive it before the WDC award application deadline! No titles will count without an AKC title certificate. Currently, the eligible performance events (those recognized or sponsored by AKC) are: Agility, Obedience, Hunt tests, Herding tests, Tracking, Therapy Dog, Coursing, Lure Coursing, Earthdog, Scent Work, Barn Hunt, Flyball, Dock Diving and SAR. Refer to the American Kennel Club website for updates on eligible events recognized by the AKC.
