Should be a great time! 1

Message from the President: I don t know about you, but I ve had enough of this POLAR VORTEX to last a lifetime, and the dogs are pretty sick of it too! Keeping them out of trouble when all they can do is run outside to potty and run back in is quite the challenge. Even my 9 and 10 year-olds seem to have cabin fever and want to DO SOMETHING! The Board is trying a new format for meetings this year. We are having hour-long conference calls to plan events and discuss business. With one under our belt so far, I think it s going to work well. Some of us picked up some action items, which we will go ove at the next meeting. Everyone is welcome to attend these calls. If you are interested in calling in, please contact me and I will give you the information. The next two meetings will be held at 9:00PM EST, on February 24 th and March 24 th. We need to change the WC/X and training dates due to a conflict we are looking at May 10-11 at this point, but the grounds have not yet been secured or details ironed out. Watch for more details on our Supported Entry being held on August 30 th at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY. We are expecting a good crowd and a great time! Come on SPRING!!! Kate Barton We don t have Waldo but maybe you can find President Kate in the picture to the left. Clue: She s the one with the dog who is actually watching her instead of looking at the photographer. The rest of our Obedience Southern Belles Team is Cathy Martin, Mary Ann Abbott and Sherry Augustine. We earned fourth place in the Team Obedience competition at the FCRSA National Specialty held in Conyers, GA in April 2013. Please join us for our next scheduled Board Meetings to be held via teleconference. The information to dial in to the meeting is listed below: February 24, 2014 starting at 9pm (EST) March 24, 2014 starting at 9pm (EST) Conference Dial-in Number: 7124321500 Participant Access Code: 334084# 2

BRAGS From Kathy Petroni: Bertschire Ultimate Guy recently received his CD. He is now Bertschire Ultimate Guy CD MX MXJ NF T2B. He will be competing in March at the 2014 AKC Agility Nationals. Knightcastle's Isaac's Storm recently earned her OA and OAJ titles. **************************************************************************************** From Adele Yunck: Sonic finished her GN title at the Marshbanks Golden Retriever trials with three 1 st places and is now: Coastalight Primetime BN, GN, RE, SH, WCX. Adele says, I decided to hwo her in Grad Novice this fall while we polish our heeling AND do our best to get a handle on the pesky Stand for Exam and sit stay (we all know how fun THOSE exercises are with FCRs) before earning her CD. Sonic earned her 1st 2 CD legs at the very difficult Winter Classic trials in January, with 2 2nd places and scores of 197.5 and 198.5. **************************************************************************************** From Deanna German: 2013 was a good year for the Flat-Coats at the German/Zawodny house! CH Gamekeeper's Iron Man RA JH WCX (aka "Cal") Cal finished two rally titles (RN, RA), earned a WCX title and came within a point of earning his GCH in limited showing. Cal is owned by Ed Zawodny and Deanna German. CH HR Fireside Center Line UD RE JH WCX (aka "Dash") Dash finished his UKC Seasoned Hunter title (HR) and earned another WCX pass. In addition, he earned his Utility Dog title, a first for his handler, Deanna German. Dash is owned by Kate Barton and Deanna German. Both dogs are completely owner-trained and owner-handled to all of their titles. **************************************************************************************** From Kate Barton: Kate Barton s Lola earned her first two legs in Novice B the weekend of Jan. 25-26, with a 3 rd Place/195 and a 2 nd Place/197. The 197 was a half point away from a 3-way runoff for HIT. (and that runoff had another FCR in it!) Kate Barton/Kathy Dullaghan s young male out of Lola Vinnie picked up his first two points at the E. Lansing shows in early December. Belated Birthday Wishes to the Fireside Driving Litter, who turned 9 on New Year s Day. And happy 5 th Birthday to the Humor Litter, who just turned 5 on Jan. 28 th. 3 Congratulations to our members for these great accomplishments!!!!

Board Meeting Minutes MIDWEST WATERWAYS FLAT-COATED RETREIVER CLUB INC. BOARD MEETING JANUARY 27, 2014 Telephone Conference meeting called to order at 8:10P.M. In attendance: Kate Barton, President; Kathy Petroni, Treasurer; Adele Yunck, Field Liaison & Webmaster; Sherry Augustine, Vice President; Mary Ann Abbott, Recording Secretary. A quorum of the Board was in attendance. Reports: Membership Report submitted by Diane Constable, Membership Secretary Diane sent out 36 notices via email at the beginning of the month and to date (Jan 20) I have received 15 renewals ($255 for membership dues and $100 for trophy funding). Diane also went through the FCRSA membership list and found about 54 national members that live in the MWFCRC area but are not currently members. She asked permission of the board to send a letter to solicit memberships. It was suggested that a letter be included telling of the upcoming 2014 Supported Entry in Lexington, Kentucky, the WC/X and the 2015 Supported Entry in Traverse City, Michigan and the awards that can be achieved and the website. www.mwfcrc.org Incentive to join and become involved was also discussed. It was decided that an incentive to all new members would be a discounted dinner price at the annual meeting this year and a chance to win a MWFCRC logo hoodie. Discussion turned to other incentive raffles and it was decided that several items with the MWFCRC logo would be raffled off to all individuals in attendance. Details to be worked out in the future. It was also suggested that a new member application be put on the website. Adele to contact Diane to obtain an application. Board Meeting Minutes continued There was then a discussion on the 501(c) 7 status that was suspended due to failure to file 990-N with the IRS. Brief history of the 501(c) 7 and the new 990-n requirements was given. Reinstatement involves a new application (IRS form 1024) as well as a $400.00 Fee. Alternatives were to suspend club, file corporate income tax returns or file for re-instatement. Board decided to file for reinstatement of the 501 (c) 7 status. Mary Ann Abbott will begin this process. Kate Barton will contact past treasurer for old records and any balance of MWFCRC funds. Kathy Petroni will assist in providing financial information. WC/X report given by Adele Yunck, Field Liaison The date previously set aside for a WC/X has had to be cancelled due to conflict. Adele has suggested a new date of May 10, 2014 for a Live Flyer/Training Day and May 11, 2014 as the WC/X Day. She will contact Backwater Retriever Club in Indiana for availability. It was also suggested that we offer a Fetch Fever type of event for puppies to encourage participation of new members and young dogs. Supported Entry 2014 Kate Barton reported that the plans are moving along for the Supported Entry at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky on August 30, 2014. Janet Olsen and Marijo Nootz have been working on this event. Barbara Pepper will be the Judge and Nancy Schenk will judge Puppy and Veteran Sweeps. There will be a Working Class Non-Regular class as required by the FCRSA. The 2015 SE is offering a series of prizes for sponsorship. More information can be obtained by contacting Marijo Nootz at nootzmj@miamioh.edu. Supported Entry 2015 Mary Ann Abbott reported that she contacted the Grand Traverse Kennel Club having our Supported Entry with them on June 20, 2015. The event will be held at the Grand Traverse Fairgrounds with a barbecue and relaxed get-together at the home of Mary Ann Abbott and Keith L. Leak. More information on this event will follow. Asked for any brags from membership and any other information members would like to have included. Old Business: Website Adele Yunck, Webmaster has the website up and running. She asked for some information that still needed to be put on the site and any suggestions. She has renewed the Domain Name for two years.
