VISAKHA SOCIETY FOR PROTECTION And CARE of ANIMALS www. vspca.org Annual Report :- 2011-2012 We care for our animals Dear Friends, WOW 16 Years! Impossible to believe! And two shelters in Visakha! Have come a long way within these few years which seem just yesterday. Every day is a day a full of challenge and hope. 2011-2012 will go towards our efforts to the opening of our second shelter known as Kindness Farm of 8 acres. We acknowledge our heartfelt thanks to Mr. Phill Wollen our Chief Patron and Founder, The Winsome Constance Kindness Trust, The Dr. & Mrs. S. H. M. Modi Hormous House Benevolence Trust Fund, Ms. Olive Walker, Ms. Jane Courtney, Help Animals India, Mrs. Maneka Gandhi for making this possible. The animals for now horses and cattle are moving into here and more would follow easing the situation at our overcrowded first shelter. We hope to save and protect animals in this shelter though there is lot of developmental works to follow. And hoping we will be able to raise much needed funds at this new Kindness Shelter and able to help the animals in distress. Apart from this stupendous effort we have been able to focus our efforts on rescuing under difficult projects. We hope to do much better in the ensuing year as we face the daunting reality of severe financial shortage to meet our daily essential needs. We wish to thank you all for supporting us and we hope you will extend your benevolence for 2012-2013 We thank each and every donor, individuals, and organizations from India and abroad for their contribution to support us thereby reaching the many hundreds of distressed animals and making a definite difference. We hope for 2012-2013 better conditions for the animals and also hope that we can extend our activities to more areas Pradeep Kumar Nath

AWARENESS AND EDUCATION PROGRAMME We continue to improve and consolidate our comprehensive efforts to spreading and reaching out to the maximum humans old and young to make a difference to the many distressed and unfortunate innocent animals. In order to derive the best benefits with immediate effect in the shortest time we always look to education related to projects. This 2011-2012 we had been to 20 fishermen villages, four schools and awareness at shandies and conduction of a workshop with A.P. Forest Department. Education Programme at one of the colleges at Visakhapatnam Awareness Programme at one of the Fishing Villages

Kindness Mobile Restaurant ( Vegan Meals for the Poorest of the Poor Having Compassion to the Street Animals ) The Kindness Mobile Restaurant at Visakhapatnam has received good popularity and more beneficial to the humans and to the animals concerned. The Bondage between the two have definitely bridged the emotion and consolidated the sentiments in practical developments. The program which began in January 2010 has benefited 5,760 humans from the one town police Jurisdiction. The program has also benefited and spread the word and in practice VEGAN to the Restaurant Owner, the auto driver and the boys cooking the Meals and the persons involved in distributing the packets. The Packet includes good nutritious food along with clean drinking water. The KMR is always a favorite deliverance to the beneficiaries who wait in patience since11am during the days designated. We are very happy that this program has been sponsored by Winsome Constance Kindness Trust, Australia whose Founder Mr. Phill Wollen despite being in great pain to his arms and shoulders leading to partial immobility was very concerned to keep this program going and readily accepting to fund for 2011 and extend the beneficiaries to 80 persons per day which will mean at the end of December 31 st 2011. The total distribution for the beneficiaries will number 11,529 covering area and including two other town police jurisdiction.we are very inspired and extremely obliged that the KMR would not only continue but extend to other areas and benefiting many.

CATTLE PROTECTION Even though we do not have much space and severely over crowded we have been able to coordinate with like minded individuals and organizations to save cattle from illegal transportations. 144 Bulls and 60 Cows were seized and handed over to Animal Welfare Organizations beyond Rajahmundry :- While we received SOS = 55 Impounded unclaimed cattle from municipality = 16

PLASTIC COW Rescuing cattle from horrible pathetic conditions as illegal slaughter places and transportation, it is another difficult effort to identify these cattle coming into our shelter under different conditions suffering from plastic that ranges from 2kgs to 70kgs. Not until it is too late to identify they live with suffering and die painfully. Thus, with support from benevolent donors, we have begun to identify the cattle required for surgery and started the long and arduous task. ENCOURAGEMENT FROM SUPREME COURT ON TOTAL BAN OF PLASTIC IN INDIAN: Based on these plastic factors and the adverse impact upon the street animals, the Plastic Team consisting of The Winsome Kindness Constance Trust, Australia, Karuna Animal and Nature and Protection Society Puttaparti, Visakha Society for Protection and Care of Animals Visakhapatnam, Rukumini Sekhar approached the supreme court and the case was admitted with strict orders from the Honorable Judges to either ban totally or provide total recycling. We will continue to pursue total banning of plastic as recycling will allow industries involved another kind of going about the issue. SEA TURTLE PROTECTION We are thankful to the Andhra Pradesh Forest Department, The Winsome Constance Kindness Trust, Australia Greater Good organisation Help Animals India, and Madras Crocodile Bank Trust for their incredible support in the successful execution of the community based sea turtle protection and conservation programme, at the coasts of Visakhapatnam and bheemunipatnam And most important Olive Ridleys continuing to visit our waters, camping and nesting at our beaches reporting the confidence and depending on us to help their children. Visakhapatnam is an important sporadic nesting ground where the turtle greatly shows interest in nestings because of reasons that are most conducive for nestings. Our protection efforts ended in the month of May. VSPCA jointly with AP Forest Department and ably supported by Winsome Constance Kindness Trust, Australia, Greater Good Organisation, and Help Animals have been engaged in protection the Sea turtles mostly Olive Ridleys along the coast of Visakhapatnam and Bheemunipatnam. Based on the successful implementation of EXSITU protection by hatcheries in 2011-2012. it was proposed, and decided to setup four hatcheries in Visakhapatnam, jodugullapalem, Rushikonda, and Bheemli. These were necessary to shift all nesting into their respective hatchery areas protecting from extreme disturbances to the coasts due to tourism developments, beach activities, heavy lightings, pollution and predators. This year together more than 181 nestings have been sighted from Naval coastal battery to Bheemli. This year also Sea Turtle Protection Force ( STPF) Performance. was increased based on their Based on the results of this year further intensive efforts will be made in the following year after extensive awareness campaign along the fishing villages. The succees rate by Existu protection maintain at 63% proving more consolidation of hatcheries warranted.
