Congratulations on the purchase of your This kit includes: Spray device with ON/OFF switch 24 adjustable nylon collar, quick-snap buckle and keeper Can of stain-free, hypoallergenic spray 6-volt battery This revolutionary product allows you to combine innovative technology with proven behavior modification techniques. You are well on your way to significantly reducing your dog s nuisance barking. The spray technology has been clinically proven to be 89% effective at stopping or reducing barking. Nylon Collar Lifetime Warranty Battery Compartment Fill Port Spray Valve Keeper (comes attached to collar) Electric Shock Collars 44.4 % SpraySense Anti-Bark Spray Collar 88.9 % Cornell University research found that 88.9% of dogs responded positively to spray vs. only 44.4% to electric shock. (Ja Am Amin Hospital Assn 1996; 32:231-5, Juarbe-diaz & Houpt) The burst of spray acts on four of your dog s five senses he hears it, sees it, feels it and smells it. This training occurs instantly and without pain. Ready for your dog to become a quiet family member? Let s get started. Quick-Snap Buckle Microphone ON/OFF Switch

4 Preparing the collar Insert the battery Remove the battery compartment cover. Make sure the + on the battery lines up with the + in the battery compartment and drop the battery into place. (figure 1) Replace the compartment cover. Note If the battery is in and the device is ON, it s listening. To prolong battery life, make sure that you turn the device OFF when it s not in use. Fill the spray reservoir Hold the spray device with the fill port facing up. Turn the spray can upside down and place the nozzle in the fill port. (figure 2) Using firm pressure, push down on the can and hold for :15 seconds. Repeat and hold for an additional :05 seconds to fully fill the reservoir. If spray is escaping as you attempt to fill, increase the downward pressure on the can to get a better seal. Don t worry, you can t overfill the device. Note When full there will be about 25 sprays in the reservoir. Attach the spray device to the strap Remove the keeper from the strap. (figure 3a) Orient the device so that the fill port and spray valve are facing up and the battery compartment is facing you. (figure 3b) figure 1 figure 2 Hold the strap in your right hand. Thread the strap from back to front through the ear on the right. Bring the strap around the front/face and then thread it front to back through the ear on the left. Make sure not to cover the microphone with the strap. (figure 4) Put the Keeper back on the strap. The tapered edge of the Keeper should face the inside. Attach the quick-snap buckle to the strap. Feed the free edge of the strap into the slot that is closest to the center, starting on the inside of the curve. Next, feed the free end through the slot on the edge of the buckle. (figure 5) Pass the loose strap through the keeper. Failure to do so will increase the likelihood that the strap will slip causing a need to constantly adjust the fit. The assembled collar should look as shown. (figure 6) Test the spray device Before every use, it s best to test the spray action by turning the device ON (figure 7) and blowing forcefully into the microphone. figure 4 figure 5 figure 6 figure 3 a/b figure 7

6 Introducing your dog to the collar Options for using the collar: I. As a management tool. Simply put the SpraySense Anti-Bark collar on your dog and allow the spray to interrupt and stop your dog s barking. The spray should have an immediate effect, but it s possible your dog will realize that the spray only appears when he s wearing the collar. This may mean the barking will resume when the collar is removed. When wearing the SpraySense Anti-Bark collar your dog will quickly and painlessly learn that there is a consequence for barking. He should acclimate to the collar within a few days. II. As a training tool. This method will require you to spend a significant amount of time interacting (the length of time will differ depending on your dog) with your dog reinforcing quiet behavior and teaching a quiet command. Your dog will need to wear the SpraySense Anti-Bark collar for several days without turning it on to get accustomed to it. Once he s comfortable wearing the collar you can begin the training process. Getting the proper fit Remove all other collars. Place the SpraySense Anti-Bark collar around your dog s neck so that the spray valve is directed upwards toward his muzzle. Adjust the strap. When properly fitted, you should be able to slip two fingers under the collar. Note After the collar s been fitted, you may want to cut off any excess strap length. First take the collar off your dog, and after cutting, seal the end with a match or lighter to prevent fraying. Caution Make sure that the collar is fitted properly, working correctly, and that your dog has become accustomed to it before you leave him unattended. Using the collar as a training tool Plan the first use for a day when you have ample time to observe your dog s response. Allow your dog to be in a situation that usually triggers unwanted barking. Do not yell no or respond in any way when your dog barks. When he does bark, the device will spray. (figure 8) He may be quite surprised, and possibly jump, sneeze, or shake his head. As soon as he has stopped barking, we recommend you say good quiet, and give him a small food reward. For more information on training your dog to respond to the quiet figure 8 command, go to spraysensetraining.com. Note It's very important that you fill the spray reservoir before each use. (Refer to instructions on page 3.) Always refill before it runs dry otherwise your dog will learn that if he s persistent the spray will stop. Where and when the collar can be used It can be used indoors or outdoors - anywhere you find your dog s continued barking to be a problem. We recommend that your dog is given some free time each day without the collar on to play, relax, and vocalize. It should not be left on your dog 24 hours-a-day. Caution The spray device should only be used on healthy dogs. If your dog has anxiety-based behavior or health problems, we suggest that you consult a veterinarian before using this tool. Note Do not attach a leash directly to the spray collar, as the tension caused by pulling may cause the collar strap to loosen. If you want to walk your dog while he s wearing the SpraySense Anti-Bark collar, simply use his normal walking collar, headcollar or harness. Don t use the SpraySense Anti-Bark collar while your dog is swimming or exposed to prolonged water spray. The spray device is water resistant, not waterproof, and will stop working if submerged.

8 Removing the collar Detach the SpraySense Anti-Bark collar using the quick-snap release. Remember to turn the device OFF after every use. It s also recommended that you remove the battery if you intend to stop using the device on a regular basis. Caution Don t expose the spray device to temperatures below 32 F or conditions above 110 F. Be particularly careful not to leave the device in direct sunlight, by a window, or in a car on a sunny day. Enjoy your quiet dog The SpraySense Anti-Bark collar is the most effective tool to stop problem barking. We ve received countless letters and calls from veterinarians, trainers and dog owners about how the technology has solved barking problems and has dramatically improved the relationship with their dog. Purchasing spray refills and/or batteries Batteries, citronella and scentless spray refills are available for purchase. (figure 9) Check your local pet supplies retailer or contact our customer service department at 888.640.8840 for more information. Note Only Premier or SpraySense brand aerosol refills should be used to fill the spray reservoir. figure 9 Important information The SpraySense Anti-Bark spray device is not a toy. Please read all the operating instructions carefully, fill the device only with recommended spray products, and always store the device away from children s reach. If you have any questions about the proper use of your collar, please call 888.640.8840 and ask for a customer service representative or e-mail us at info@premier.com. We re happy to help you. Our office hours are Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. 6:00 p.m. (ET). We welcome your comments about the product. Feel free to e-mail us at info@premier.com.

10 Troubleshooting Problem The anti-bark device doesn t spray when your dog barks. Fill the spray reservoir. (Refer to instructions on pg. 3) Place the device on a flat surface with the fill port facing up. Turn the spray can upside down and place the nozzle in the fill port. Using firm pressure, push down on the spray can and hold for :15 seconds. Repeat and hold for an additional :05 seconds to fill the reservoir. Note You don t need to worry about overfilling. Once the pressure in the reservoir equals the pressure in the can, the gas will stop flowing. If spray is escaping while you re attempting to fill the device, the reservoir is not filling. Increase the downward pressure on the can to insure a good seal. Escaping spray does not indicate a full reservoir. Replace the battery. (Refer to instructions on pg. 3) Because the batteries are so small, it s easy to put them in backwards. Make sure the + on the battery lines up with the + in the battery compartment. When the battery is in place and the device is ON, it s listening whether on your dog or not. To extend battery life, be sure to turn OFF the device every time you remove the collar from your dog. Note Occasionally newly purchased batteries may have weakened or actually expired while on the shelf. We recommend trying several different batteries before concluding the battery is not the problem. Problem The anti-bark device sprays when you blow into the microphone, but it won t spray when your dog barks. Adjust the collar. A strap that is fit too tightly will not allow the sound waves to be picked up by the microphone. A strap that is fit too loosely may be too far from your dog s mouth to pick up the sound. Gravity should keep the spray device centered near your dog s Adam s apple. Prevent your dog s long hair from blocking the microphone. Try tying a bandana around your dog s neck and then place the Collar over it. Clip the hair a bit shorter in the neck area. Use hair bands to hold hair away from the microphone. Problem The anti-bark device sprays when your dog is not barking. Remove all other collars when using the anti-bark device. Noise created by jangling dog tags, rattling chains and buckles can sometimes cause the device to spray at inappropriate times. Adjust the collar. The collar may be fit too loosely and is picking up other sounds.
