Volunteer Position: Cat/Kitten Socializer Number of Positions Available: 4 Shift: Flexible Summary of Position: Cat/kitten socializers are tasked with coming in to the shelter and spending time with the cats and kittens in our adoption program. Socializing with the dogs in play yards and getting them out of their kennels for a while helps to relieve stress, relax them and in turn make them more adoptable. Duties may include walking dogs, speaking to the public, assisting with adoptions and assisting in keeping the kennels clean and sterile. Involves direct animal contact.

Kennel technicians are required to have a basic knowledge of handling dogs safely and understanding basic dog body language. Duties may include working with sanitation tools, handling animals and cleaning water and food bowls in an effort to prevent disease. Persons looking for future work in the veterinarian field might be a good fit for this position but we are willing to train anyone motivated to be a volunteer. Volunteer Position: Landscape/Grounds Maintenance Shift: 1 day per week, hours flexible Summary of Position: Landscape/Grounds Maintenance Volunteers will be tasked with helping keep the grounds of the facility in a neat, well-maintained order. Duties may include lawn mowing, trimming/edging, watering plants/flowers and weeding flower beds. All tools and supplies provided. This position does not require direct animal contact. Volunteer Position: Adoption Outreach Shift: Every Sunday 12pm-3pm Summary of Position: Adoption Outreach Volunteers will be tasked with assisting Animal Control Staff at off-site adoption events. Duties may include loading animals onto the adoption trailer, assist in set-up at the event, assisting customers/potential adopters, walking/watering the animals on site and assist in clean-up and tear down of the adoption trailer at the end of the event. Direct animal contact is required for this position.
Volunteer Position: Animal Photographer Number of Positions Available: 4 Shift: 1 day per week. Flexible hours Summary of Position: Animal Photographers are tasked with taking good, quality pictures of the adoptable animals for use on social media and other internet outlets. Photographers must provide their own digital camera (NO CELL PHONE PICTURES) and be proficient in using it. Must be proficient in photo editing and emailing pictures and must be able to commit to providing pictures to animal control staff within 24 hours of their visit. Direct animal contact and a basic understanding of dog body language is required for this position. You DO NOT have to be a professional photographer or have extensive experience to apply for this position. Volunteer Position: Office Assistant Number of Positions Available: 4 Shift: 1 day per week. 8am-11am OR 3pm-6pm (Please specify on your application) Summary of Position: Office Assistants will be tasked with assisting animal control staff with basic clerical duties. This position does not require direct animal contact. Duties may include answering the telephone, filing papers, basic computer input and assisting customers with questions or concerns.
Volunteer Position: Internet Adoption Assistant Shift: N/A (See Position Summary) Summary of Position: Internet Adoption Assistants are tasked with assisting the animal shelter with keeping social media and other online adoption sites up to date (Petfinder, Adopt-A-Pet, RescueGroups, etc). Persons applying for this position should be proficient in computer usage, email, internet and photo uploading. Staff will train appropriate persons in this position but once comfortable, this can be a work from home position. Volunteer Position: Animal Transporter Number of Positions Available: 6 Shift: varies; considered an as needed position Summary of Position: Animal Transporters are tasked with assisting the animal shelter with getting animals to rescues, veterinarian offices, etc. This position is considered to be an as needed position in which shelter staff may call or contact you at any time to see if you are available to transport. This position does require direct animal contact. Must have reliable transportation that is insured according to state law and a crate or other means of tethering an animal inside your vehicle. No expenses can be reimbursed.
Volunteer Position: Trainer/Assessor Shift: varies; considered an as needed position Summary of Position: Trainer/Assessor volunteers are tasked with assisting animal control staff and rescues with doing temperament testing on animals that have the potential for going to a rescue. This position is considered to be an as needed position in which shelter staff may call or contact you at any time to see if you are available. This position requires direct animal contact and is best suited for someone who has experience in dog training or temperament assessments. Volunteer Position: Grant Writer Reports to: Shelter Supervisor Shift: varies; see position summary Summary of Position: Grant Writer Volunteers are tasked with working with shelter staff to seek out and apply for applicable grants that may provide us opportunities for more funding. Must be proficient in computers/internet, articulate in writing and able to provide a professional document to shelter staff for use in applying for grants. This position does not require direct animal contact. This is considered a work at home position but must be able to maintain clear and concise communication with staff when needed.
Volunteer Position: Foster Home Number of Positions Available: Unlimited Shift: N/A Summary of Position: Foster Home Volunteers are tasked with assisting the shelter by opening their homes to care for an animal in need. Duties include feeding, watering, providing shelter and generally caring for a shelter animal as if it were your own. Many foster opportunities are considered short-term as they wait to go to their rescue but others will be needed until the animal is adopted. This position does require direct animal care. Persons should be familiar with animal care, behavior and basic training needs such as house training, leash training, etc. Volunteer Position: Community Cat Transporter Number of Positions Available: 10 Shift: Mon-Fri 8am or 4pm Summary of Position: Community Cat Transporters are responsible for assisting the shelter in facilitating and transporting cats for the Trap, Neuter, Release program. Transporters would pick-up ferel cats (enclosed in traps) from the Midwest City Shelter on assigned days at 8am, then transport to the spay/neuter clinic in SE OKC (approx. 15 mins from shelter). They would then need to be picked up from the clinic the same day at 4pm and returned to the shelter. Transporters may be asked to assist in the returning of community cats to their original location.
