TUESDAY 7 th MARCH 2017 MARKET REPORT 18 steers averaged 204.72ppk and topped at 222.50ppk ( 1596) 9 young bulls averaged 189.15ppk and topped at 218.50ppk ( 1409) 23 heifers averaged 229.96ppk and topped at 267.50ppk ( 1564) 11 OTM cattle topped at 154.50ppk ( 1412) 1592 Hoggs averaged 160.10ppk and topped at 97.00 (218.00ppk) 313 cull ewes averaged 61.24 and topped at 110.00 Another bright and sunny day at Malton Market this week certainly showed the outdoor sheep pens at their best. There was another increase in the number of hoggs this week reaching well over 1500 with the best pens reaching 97.00 per head. Another good week for Heifers as they topped an impressive 267.50ppk and averaged an equally impressive 229.96ppk. Steers were also an improved trade this week averaging 204.72. Young bulls were also a good trade averaging 189.15ppk. Ewes continue to remain a good trade with pens reaching 110.00. Bulls averaged 189.15ppk. The top price per kilo went to an excellent non-farm assured 12 month old Limousin from J & AM Craggs of Ebberston, weighing 600kg and reaching 218.50ppk ( 1311) to Rowland Agar Butchers of Ilkley. The top price per head went to an 18 month old British Blue x from RA Smith & Son of Staxton, weighing 740kg and selling for 1409.70 (190.50ppk) to Cleveland Meat & Co. Others to do well included an 18 month old BB from RA Smith & Son reaching 197.50ppk.

The top price per kilo went to a 23 month old lim from P Raines & Son of Stonegrave, weighing 685kg and selling for 222.50ppk ( 1524). The top price per head went to a 23 month old Chx from WH & DM Curtis of Kirkbymoorside, weighing 755kg and selling for 211.50ppk ( 1596). Others to do well included another lim from P Raines & Son reaching 221.50ppk. A 23 month old Chx reached 211.50ppk from WH & DM Curtis of Kirkbymoorside. Lim Steers to 222.50ppk ( 1524) 685kg P Raines & Son, Stonegrave Chx Steers to 211.50ppk ( 1596) 755kg WH & DM Curtis, Kirkbymoorside AA Steers to 195.50ppk ( 1143) 585kg Grange Farm Lt, Bulmer Wagyu x to 188.50ppk ( 1423) 755kg EC & A Tyson, Deighton 23 HEIFERS A very good show of heifers this week with trade remaining firm. Heifers averaged 229.96ppk overall. The top price per kilo went to an excellent 22 month old lim from J & R Waind of Brawby, weighing 585kg and selling for 267.50ppk ( 1564) to Worsley Wholesale Butchers. The top price per head also went to the same lim heifer from JR Waind of Brawby. Others to do well included a 17 month old lim from N Marwood of Harome reaching 264.50ppk. A 19 month old lim from CF Beal of Yedingham reached 260.50ppk. Another lim from J & R Waind reached 259.50ppk. A 21 month old lim from DR Jackson & Sons of Carnaby reached 257.50ppk. A 18 month old lim from Marwood Bros of North Grimston reached 249.50ppk. Lim heifers to 267.50ppk ( 1564) 585kg J & R Waind, Brawby Bax heifer to 219.50ppk ( 1349) 615kg CF Beal, Yedingham AA heifers to 193.50ppk ( 1073) 555kg Grange Farm, Bulmer 11 OTM CATTLE This week saw another good trade for OTM cattle averaging 114.35ppk. OTM cattle (over 30 months and under 72 months of age) An excellent 35 month old Wagyu steer from EC & AA Tyson of Deighton reached 154.50ppk ( 1336). A 69 month old Holstein reached 103.50ppk ( 750) from JEW & RR Cooper & Sons of Ganton. A 53 month old Holstein reached 99.50ppk from JEW & RR Cooper & Sons of Ganton.

Older cull cows (over 72 months old) A 148 month old Blonde D Aquataine Bull weighing 1025kg reached 138.50ppk from CF Beal of Yedingham. A 74 month old Holstein from RA Smith & Son of Staxton sold very well reaching 127.50ppk. Another Holstein from RA Smith & Son reached 113.50ppk. A 75 month old British Blue from RT & GC Headley reached 119.50ppk, A 77 month old lim bull reached 110.50ppk also from RT & GC Headley of Buttercrambe. 1592 HOGGS An excellent number of hoggs through the market this week with good fit pens reaching 97.00 and topping 218.00ppk. The average for standard hoggs this week reached 176.66ppk compared to the national average at 173.20ppk (AHDB, 2017). The top price per kilo went to an excellent pen of 12 farm assured Texel s from M Ward & Son of Great Habton, reaching 218.00ppk ( 96.00) to JB Fitton Ltd. The top price per head went to a pen of 9 Farm assured Texel s from FJ Hodsman & Sons of Eddlethorpe reaching 97.00 (216.00ppk) to Yorkshire Halal meat Suppliers. Others to do well included a pen of 8 Suffolk s from Gascoines Group reaching 94.00 (149.00ppk). There was a wide range of all types and ages of Store cattle and the ring side was packed with buyers from all around the county.
