PUT A NEW SPRING IN YOUR STEP // ADULT PROGRAMS Easter Chocolates GINEGAW LODGE Louise Weller Learn to make a variety of special Easter chocolates including coconut, maple, and caramel eggs plus chicks and bunnies! All materials provided. Class participants will learn the process of preparing homemade chocolate and make two dozen chocolates to take home with them at class along with recipes from the evening for future chocolate making! Ages 16 & Up Monday 6:00pm-8:00pm March 19th $20 Mozzarella Cheese Making GINEGAW LODGE Recreation Staff One of our most popular classes - join the growing craze of cheese making! By using a specially designed individual cheese kit, participants will learn and walk through the process to making mozzarella cheese. The best part? You keep the kit and its components! Plus, now that you re armed with the knowledge from class, you can make up to 30lbs of additional cheese at home! Ages 16 & Up Monday 6:30pm-8:00pm March 26th $27 Beginner Dog Obedience ORCHARD KENNELS Glenna Godown If your dog needs a little help following the rules at home try Dog Obedience class! Dogs will learn basic obedience skills and a silly dog trick each week. First meeting will be used to evaluate dogs and adjust classes to fit their needs. Formal training and instruction will begin during our second class. Obedience training is provided for dogs of all levels of need and ability - not just for those trying training for the first time! Program held in an air conditioned room with bathroom on site. Please specify the age and breed of your dog when registering. All Ages & Breeds of Dogs Thursdays 7:30pm-8:30pm March 29th-May 10th $70 Advanced Obedience/Trick Training ORCHARD KENNELS Glenna Godown Advanced Dog Obedience takes dogs with prior basic training and introduces them to a series of advanced obedience moves and tricks. Cement the bond that makes you and your pooch such a great team through this advanced training. Upon completion many dogs will become ready for therapy dog work. Take your dogs training to the next level this Spring! All Ages & Breeds of Dogs Saturdays 9:30am-10:30am April 7th-May 19th $70 U.S. Coast Guard Boating Safety MAIN MEETING ROOM Coast Guard Aux. Get ready for the summer cottage and lake season with the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Boating Safety Course. Boating Safety introduces attendees to the principles of safe boating operation, safety, navigation, and even personal watercraft operation. Successful completion of the course exam qualifies participants for a certificate that satisfies NYS requirements for boat and personal watercraft operation. PLEASE NOTE: NYS LAW PROHIBITS SOLO OPERATION OF A JET SKI BY PERSONS UNDER THE AGE OF 14. Persons under the age of 14 may complete the course but it will not certify them to operate of Jet Ski or any other personal watercraft on their own. Class dates and times will be determined soon. AARP Driver Safety Course TOWN HALL MAIN MEETING ROOM AARP Open to all interested NYS licensed drivers! Reduce your auto liability by 10% and reduce as many as 4 points on your driving record. Class space limited to the first 35 registrants. THERE IS NO ONLINE REGISTRATION FOR THIS CLASS. REGISTRATIONS BY PHONE ONLY. You must call the Recreation Offices at (315) 986-1400 to register. PARTICIPANTS MUST ATTEND BOTH DAYS TO MEET THE PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS. Please bring a check made payable to AARP with you to the first class. Class fills quickly - please call early to get on our list and ensure your registration! All Licensed Drivers Monday & Tuesday 8:30am-12:00pm April 23rd & April 24th $20 AARP Member Fee $25 AARP Non-Member Fee NYS DMV Point Reduction Course MAIN MEETING ROOM Alden Bell Completion of a NYS DMV Point & Insurance Reduction (PIR) Course refreshes your driving knowledge with a review of time-tested safe driving tips and an overview of traffic laws. You may be eligible to reduce as many as four (4) points on your driving record (to be eligible to reduce points on your license you must already be in the penalty). The DMV computer system will automatically note your eligibility to receive a point deduction after taking the course. Any principal operator of a motor vehicle also receives a minimum 10% reduction of the base rate of their auto premiums each year for three years. Course covers the DMV point system, rules of the road, car restraint systems and the laws of physics, defensive driving techniques, the effects of attitude, emotions, and skills on driver safety, and drug and alcohol impairment. Course certificate valid for one year following completion. This boating safety primer is designed for those not generally at the helm and will help you to be prepared with boating basics in the event of an emergency that leaves the boating captain incapacitated or overboard. Participants will learn the basics about their vessel, including nomenclature and operating principles. Also included are descriptions of what causes common boating mishaps and how to minimize them, basic boat handling, and what equipment you should have aboard your boat.
