Judge s comments We asked All Breeds Judge Mrs Rosemarie Cabion about her life with dogs and to name the five most important aspects she looks at when she judges dogs: My association with dogs has been a lifelong one. I started showing Bulldogs in 1954. In 1960 I registered the Sleepy Hollow prefix and started showing and breeding Labrador Retrievers. I imported 10 Labradors from the U.K. in an endeavour to broaden the blood lines in South Africa. In 1970 I imported my first Whippet and in 1980 I added Greyhounds. In addition to showing and breeding dogs I was actively engaged in the administrative side of the dog world. I started judging the Gundog group in 1967, and since then have progressed through all the groups and in 1984 was placed on the panel to issue Challenge Certificates to all breeds and to judge Best in Shows. I have judged Championship shows throughout South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Finland, South America, Ireland, Jersey Channel Islands, England, Holland, Norway, Sweden and Australia. Condition: The dog entering the ring must be clean and well groomed, well-muscled up and generally in good physical condition. Dog and handler compatibility: It should be evident if there is a good relationship between dog and handler. Temperament: Nervous dogs: Ring training: I look for a dog that is confident and cooperative with no evidence of aggression. An anxious dog ruins his outline as he will be tense and hunch himself up and be difficult to handle and generally will not move correctly. You can have the most beautiful dog in the world but if he is nervous won t show and can t win. Hill s is consistent in taste and texture with no re-calls. My hairless cats, from the tiny kittens to the seniors are thriving and living proof of how well-balanced and nutrient the Hills food is. What do you do for a living? Financial manager for consulting engineers firm for 30 years. Introduce your human family: Married to Marius for 29 years, daughter Chantélle, who is a medical student and son Estian is in film school. Future goals: I would really, really like to breed the perfect Sphynx. And to go on holiday more. Hill s transforms Shiro s life Judy Russell from Margate recently joined the Hill s Transforming Lives Campaign (www.hillstransforminglives.co.za) with the story of her poodle Shiro. Shiro is a dog jumping champion and won all the trophies during 2015 at KZN agility club. Then suddenly in April 2016 she starting closing down, would not and could not jump, have fun, play and her tail was down. She started scratching herself all day and night, and when she was with her friends, Standard Poodle Miko and German Shepherd Tarka, at the beach, she just looked at them while they had fun. She would scratch, whimper; have stomach ache and an itchy and smelly skin. It was heart breaking to see this beautiful Poodle, who was so full of life losing her will to live... yes, it was that bad. We tried a very expensive food for 6 weeks, but it became worse. Then in August, yes we battled all this time with crazy diets, I took her to Margate Veterinary Hospital and with the help of Dr Bruggemann and Healthcare team member Judy Russell they recommended Hill s Prescription Diet Derm Defense. After 3 days the difference in Shiro became noticeable. When we were on our bag, we could believe the miracle.
