Let s discuss! Read in today s paper: Our ecological researches: Cadets clean up their home: The cleanest and the dirtiest cities: Let s travel around the world: Some ecological calendars for you:

Brain wave 6 MAY 2017 NEWS We are young ecologists!!! We all want to live in a clean and beautiful place. We like clean and beautiful cities. We want to save the nature around us. What can we do for this??? Cadets and teachers of our school took part in a litter pick. It was on Friday, April 21. The weather was wonderful and we all were happy to spend some time outdoors. We cleaned up the territory of our school and some streets around it. 596 cadets and 230 teachers did the place we live in cleaner and more beautiful. The territory was divided between courses. After that we took our rakes and packets and started our work. Cadets and teachers cut bushes, cleaned dry foliage, old branches and leaves. Cadets also cleaned up the territory of Klara Tsetkin and Tavricheskaya streets. We also took many pictures that day and had a lot of fun! I think such work is very important because each of us can do the world better! Next year we are going to do it again. The material was prepared by B. Tykhonov This year cadets took part in different ecological competitions and conferences. We won a lot of prizes. Today we have an interview with Zaitov Marsel. He took part in a regional ecological conference and be- came a winner. - What was the topic of your work? - Together with my classmates we created a travel guide «Natural areas of protection in Tyumen region». It was the topic of our work. - Why is this topic interesting for you? - There are many beautiful and unique places in our region. I want to tell people from all over the world about them. - How can you do this? - We created an interactive map in the internet. We did it both in Russian and in English. - Do you like to take part in the conference? - Of course! I met many interesting people and learnt a lot of useful information! - Do you want to continue your work? - Of course! I m going to study natural areas of protection in other regions next year! - It is very interesting! We wish you good luck! Thank you for the interview! - Thankyou! The material was prepared by P. Mordasov

Brain wave NEWS 6 MAY 2017 There are so many different places in the world. Each country has a lot of cities and towns. Some of them are beautiful! People like to visit them. They are also happy to live there. But other cities are really awful! They are very dirty. It is very difficult for people to live there. Let s look at the rating of the cleanest and the dirtiest cities. 5. New Delhi, India Due to the city being so overcrowded, public urination and piles of garbage are not rare occasions on the streets. 4. Moscow, Russia A lot of factories and cars have made air pollution a big problem for Moscow s residents and placed the Russian capital, the only European city in this list, among the dirtiest cities in the world. 3. Lome, Togo Waste management has been one of the main causes of the area s health hazards. Without access to clean water, the city is fighting against water-borne infectious diseases. 2. Luanda, Angola Most of the problems are caused by the dangerous water the residents drink. 1. Port Harcourt, Nigeria Port Harcourt is the dirtiest city in the world. This city in Nigeria has one of the biggest issues with disease caused by water pollution and bad waste management. Many companies based in Port Harcourt dump their waste in the river Aba, which runs across southern Nigeria. 5. Freiburg, Germany The German city Freiburg is also known as Flower city in the country popular. The greenest city of the world has numerous grass gardens, parks and other green projects to make the environment safe 4. Adelaide, Australia The eighty five percent of waste in this city has been successfully recycled following well-organized system which is one of prime reason of dirt free surroundings. 3. Zurich, Switzerland The people and government often involved in activities which made the city clean and fresh. 2. Luxemburg There is absolute fine waste management which working is not only satisfactory but extraordinary making the city clean and providing a healthy atmosphere to residence. 1. Calgary, Canada he government is keen to clean the environment by restricting people from such activities which may harm or pollute the region in any manner. The material was prepared by A. Krutikov

Brain wave 6 MAY 2017 NEWS Our nature is always amazing! It creates many wonderful things. They are in different cities and in different countries. There are some of them in Great Britain too. Let s speak about them! Giant's Causeway is one of the most wonderful places on our planet. It is located near the village of Bushes in the North-East coast of Ireland. It is a coast of the sea that consists of thousands of basalt columns. They have a regular hexagonal shape, reaching 12 m in height and 50 cm in diameter. They are located vertically and driven into the soil so tightly that they will not pass even a thin blade of a knife. If you look at this stretch of the coast from above, it looks like it is completely cobbled. Loch Ness lake is situated in the Highlands of Scotland. Loch Ness is famous for its legendary monster Nessie; and that's where the name comes from Loch (lake) Ness (Nessie Monster). It stretches from Inverness in the north, flows all the way to Fort Augustus in the South through wild and rugged shoreline, and eastwards to Daviot. The place has a wide range of outdoor activities available right from cruises, climbing, Deer spotting, water sports, golf courses, pony riding to walking, cycling etc. Hadrian s Wall is a Roman wall that runs for about 120 kilometres across northern England In 122 AD it was the frontier defence of Roman Britain. It was hoped that the wall would help to control the Scottish tribes. Originally it s about 3m wide and 4.5m high. Nowdays the wall is in the Northumberland National Park around the village of Gilsland. One of the best preserved Roman forts can be seen at Housesteads (Roman Vercovicium), six miles (9.7 kms) north east of Haltwhistle. Stonehenge, the most famous prehistoric monument in Britain, is situated on Salisbury Plain in the county of Wiltshire. At various times regarded as a site built by the Druids, the Romans, the Danes and even the French, the first stage - a circular ditch and bank with an entrance flanked by a pair of small standing stones - is believed to have been built around 3,000 BC. It has been suggested that Stonehenge once operated as a massive astronomical clock, and there are even suggestions that it was a landing site for UFOs! A more likely explanation is that Stonehenge was an important centre of worship connected with the sun.
