CLUB INFORMATION Yeovil & District Canine Society has been established for over 75 years, and is growing year on year. We run Ringcraft classes each Wednesday evening at Kingsdon Village Hall, nr Somerton where we aim to assist new and experienced exhibitors to get the best out of their dogs in the show ring. We have access to specialist trainers for anyone having particular problems with their dog. As a registered Society we are able to offer Good Citizen Training Scheme training classes. These courses are available to all. Our trainers are obedience/agility specialists and they will guide you through the Bronze, Silver and Gold awards. The Club also runs seminars and has successfully organised KC seminars in the past year. Seminars are advertised on the Club Website and Facebook Group. If you would like to suggest a seminar you think other exhibitors will enjoy, please contact us. We run 2 shows a year. Our annual PREMIER OPEN SHOW is for the first time being held with Yeovil Show. We decided to move back to Yeovil after an opportunity arose with Yeovil Show and we are very excited about this new venue and the opportunities it will give us in coming years. Last year's show at Bath & West Showground attracted 850 dogs with over 1,000 entries. Our Limited Show is in December and is held at Keinton Mandeville Village Hall and this is an ideal show for new exhibitors and judges to gain experience. We welcome feedback from exhibitors to our shows. Please feel free to contact our Secretary, Jacky Ash, for further details of shows/events/training 01460 281528 or email: hillcloudwesties@gmail.com Our website is updated regularly, so please visit www.yeovildcs.co.uk Members please let us know your show successes and news. Contact Jacky or Bethany who will add them to the website and our Facebook page. The Club is run by an enthusiastic Committee from a number of different backgrounds. If you have been a member for over a year, and would like to help with running of the Club please speak to Jacky our Secretary.

Where a Best Puppy in Show competition is scheduled the Best Puppy in Show is a puppy which has competed and is unbeaten by any other puppy exhibited at the same show. A puppy is a dog of six and not exceeding twelve calendar months of age on the first day of the Show. Where the Best of Breed, Best in Group or Best in Show is a puppy it should automatically be awarded Best Puppy in Breed, Best Puppy in Group and Best Puppy in Show respectively. Shows Judged on the Group System (Definition: Shows judged on the Group System includes classes for breeds within more than one group, as defined in Kennel Club Regulation B(A); and require a judge to declare a best of each group after which the exhibits so declared will compete for the award of Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show.) 1) Best of Breed: Where a breed is separately classified a Best of Breed may be declared from those exhibits which have received an award. Where separate classes are provided for each sex of a breed a Best of each Sex must be selected from which the Best of Breed must be declared from those exhibits which have received an award.

2) Best of Group: From 1st January 2017, and for a period of one year the Kennel Club Show Regulations which stipulate that dogs must be entered and exhibited in a breed class before exhibiting in an Any Variety Class/ Stakes Class and that only unbeaten dogs are eligible to compete in the group or best in show competitions are suspended. Withdrawal from other Competition: Dogs which become eligible for Best of Group and Best in Show may be withdrawn from all other competition other than breed classes and Best of Breed prior to the competition for Best of Group or Best in Show as appropriate in order to remain unbeaten. Exhibitors must not pick up dogs by their tails and leads when lifting them. This is not acceptable. Exhibitors should note that such practice would constitute harsh handling and reports of such practice will be referred to the Committee under Kennel Club Show Regulation F11. 15. Your dog is vulnerable and at risk during hot weather and the Kennel Club offers the following guidance to help guide you through the do s and don ts travelling to and whilst at KC licensed events. When travelling to a show please take a moment to consider whether the route to the show is on a busy holiday route, and leave earlier to avoid increased time in traffic jams. If your vehicle is not air-conditioned seriously consider whether travelling to the show is a good idea at all. The vehicle should be as fully ventilated as possible, and plenty of stops should be taken, with lots of water available to drink. Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free flowing air around the dog. When at the show, never leave your dog in the vehicle. Keep the dog in the shade - take your own shade for example a large umbrella and always have plenty of water available to drink so your dog stays well hydrated. Avoid your dog taking part in unnecessary exertion, or from standing in exposed sunlight for extended lengths of time. Remember, if you feel hot your dog is very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated, and this could lead to dire results. Please look after your dog s welfare. WARNING: IF YOUR DOG IS FOUND TO BE AT RISK FORCIBLE ENTRY TO YOUR VEHICLE MAY BE NECESSARY WITHOUT LIABILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED. Anyone whose dog is entered at a Kennel Club licensed event should take all reasonable steps to ensure the needs of their dog(s) are met, and should not put a dog s health and welfare at risk by any action, default, omission or otherwise. Breach of Kennel Club Regulations in this respect may be referred to the General Committee for disciplinary action under Kennel Club Rules and Regulations. Exhibitors/Competitors are reminded that show societies have the right under Kennel Club Regulation to refuse any entry. 19. Not for Competition entries will be accepted. Details of each dog so entered must be recorded on the entry form and must be Kennel Club registered. 20. No modifications will be made to the schedule except by permission of the General Committee of the Kennel Club, which will be followed by advertisement in the Canine press wherever possible.

21. Any owner, competitor, handler or other person in charge of a dog is required to remove as soon as possible any fouling caused by their dog(s) at any Kennel Club licensed show within the licensed venue and within the environs of that event including car and caravan parks and approaches. 22. The owner, exhibitor, handler or other person in charge of a dog at Kennel Club licensed events must at all times ensure that the dog is kept under proper control whilst at the licensed venue, including its environs, car and caravan parks and approaches. This Regulation applies before (at any time during the set up period at the venue), during the event and afterwards (at any time during the breakdown of the event). 23. A dog may be disqualified by the General Committee from any award, whether an objection has been lodged or not, if proved amongst other things to have been: a) registered or recorded as having been bred by the scheduled Judge, this shall not apply to a Judge appointed in an emergency; b) exhibited without payment of appropriate entry fees. 24. Every exhibitor shall ensure that whilst the dog is being exhibited, its handler shall display the correct ring number. DEFINITIONS OF CLASSES In the following definitions, a Challenge Certificate includes any Show award that counts towards the title of Champion under the Rules of any governing body recognised by the Kennel Club. Wins at Championship Shows in breed classes where Challenge Certificates are not on offer shall be counted as wins at Open Shows. IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING IDENTIFICATION OF DOGS It is a Kennel Club requirement that exhibitors display the exhibit number on their crate, cage or container at all times. This is particularly important when cages etc. are not on benches, and at unbenched shows. Each exhibitor is responsible for providing their own crate or cage identification and should note that the original exhibit/bench number card, as provided by the show society, must not be used for this purpose. It is important to be able to contact exhibitors and identify dogs where a dog may be in distress or where the crate might be blocking a gangway.
