A 10 minute walkthrough without dogs is allowed for Novice A handlers. A single encouragement phrase may be used during each exercise. Exercises: Heel on Leash (using rally signs); Figure 8; Sit for Exam (with dog on leash); Sit Stay (handler walks around ring); Recall (leash removed from dog). SEE CHAPTER 16, BEGINNER NOVICE. Exercises: Heel Free & Figure 8; Drop on Recall, Dumbbell Recall (dog takes dumbbell from handler, handler walks across ring), Dumbell Recall over High Jump (dog is given dumbbell by handler, handler walks across ring); Recall over Broad Jump, Group Exercise-Sit or Down. SEE CHAPTER 17, GRADUATE NOVICE. Exercises: Signal Exercise, Scent Discrimination, Go Out, Directed Jumping, Moving Stand & Exam, and Directed Retrieve. The owner or any other person may handle dogs in this class. SEE CHAPTER 18, GRADUATE NOVICE Exercises: Six exercises will be performed; two each from the Novice, Open and Utility classes. No Group exercises. For this class scent discrimination articles 1 & 2 will be considered as a single Utility exercise. Prior to the start of judging, the judge will decide the combination and order of exercises to be performed and which glove will be retrieved (if the combination includes the Directed Retrieve. SEE CHAPTER 19, VERSATILITY. NON-REGULAR CLASSES (a qualifying score is not required to earn ribbons or prizes in non-regular classes) For two dogs of same breed or two dogs listed with AKC Canine partners of similar height at the withers. The dogs need not be owned by the same person but will be handled by one handler. Dogs may be shown unattached or coupled with coupling device not less than 6 in length. Separate entry form required for each dog entered. Exercises will be as in the Novice class. SEE CHAPTER 20, NON-REGULAR CLASSES For dogs that have an obedience title and are at least 7 years old on the date of the trial. Exercises same as Novice exercises. Extreme weather conditions, such as, but not limited to snow storms, hurricanes, lightning, extreme heat, heavy rains, or other circumstances including, but not limited to, the condition of the facilities or grounds and/or the ingress and egress from the grounds, must be considered for the health and safety of the dogs, exhibitors and spectators. The well-being of dogs, exhibitors and spectators is of paramount importance and, in the event it is necessary to cancel or stop the show before completion, no refund of entry fee will be made. All dogs present must be held on leash or confined to their crates except when being judged. Judges will not wait for any dog holding up a class.
