The draw on wings finally is what most had hoped for with product quickly being absorbed into all faucets of the food chain. Large and small wings are no more than adequate with sellers inching their asking prices higher. As for leg meat and thigh meat the undertone remains very steady as holiday usage keeps inventories manageable. Tenders and cutlets and fronts are no better than they have been with supplies fully adequate to handle the light call. Breasts are weak and trading well off their normal formulas. Bone in dark meat is no better than about steady under seasonal buying patterns. Holiday downtime will limit supply over next two weeks yet the lack of trucks will counter some in taking in product when needed. Avg TURKEY SITUATION Not a Creature Was Stirring Few new developments transpired over the past 24 hours with trade activity rapidly winding down in advance of Christmas. Several processors are down both Friday and Monday and those that are running tomorrow will be down on Monday. This is expected to keep inventories from building too terribly much during next week and allow for price support where it exists right now. Breast meat seems like a likely exception with offerings failing to attract much interest over the next week or so. We have recorded business at full market levels for the most immediate needs but this seems associated more with timing and logistics than anything else. The same can be said where demand for frozen scapula is still going strong and timing requires premiums to be paid for delivery in the very immediate future. That said we find interest for next week and beyond to be on the retreat and that calls into question the longevity of present price support. Thigh meat is in great shape and despite modest discounting, a solid seasonably strong undertone is in place. Whole birds are attracting little in the way of demand and offered prices continue to erode. Institutional sized whole birds and breasts are expected to ease up but are still strong heading into the weekend. Consumer breasts rate firm undertones. Parts are mixed with drums fairly well balanced and lines like necks, wings and two joints experiencing mixed demand patterns. Mechanically Separated Poultry MST is reflecting strong undertones. Sources report demand patterns for early next year that are encouraging with recent sales recorded at full market levels or better. MSC reports are quite thin with most players reflecting steady but slow conditions. Russell Whitman 732-240-5330 Ext. 247 rwhitman@urnerbarry.com If you want to sell it, why not tell it? In an ad.
