In the news Woman dies from suspected snake bite in South Fremantle An elderly woman has died from a suspected snake bite in South Fremantle. Paramedics attended South Beach Promenade about 1:30pm on Saturday after receiving a call the woman had suffered a suspected bite. She was taken to the Fiona Stanley Hospital with respiratory issues, but later died. Police said the Coronial Investigation Unit was investigating the woman's death. A spokesperson said the cause of death was yet to be confirmed, and a report would be prepared for the coroner. Saturday was the warmest August day in Perth in 17 years, and experts have warned that snake encounters often increase in hotter weather. The Department of Parks and Wildlife (DPAW) has previously said it was not unusual to find venomous snakes, including dugites and tiger snakes, in the Perth metropolitan area.
