However, the wide range of patients encountered and the need to avoid manual restraint whenever possible pose challenges in the acquisition of suitable images. This course will show how diagnostic thoracic radiographs can be acquired in a variety of circumstances and how to identify potentially confusing incidental findings. Separate sessions on the lungs, heart, pleural space, mediastinum and thoracic wall will cover a wide range of disease processes encountered in small animal practice, some familiar and others less so. Five things you will learn: How to obtain high-quality, diagnostic thoracic radiographs How to recognise incidental variants and artefacts How to approach interpretation of thoracic radiographs in a logical, step-by-step fashion How to recognise key radiographic features of a large number of thoracic diseases How to identify the limitations of radiography and plan appropriate further tests Member early bird price* 180 Member standard price 210 Non-member early bird price* 570 Non-member standard price 600 Book online at www.bva.co.uk/events @bvacpd 7

The prevalence of cancer is increasing; partly due to the fact that our patients are living longer, but also due to the increased ability to diagnose neoplasia, and increased owner awareness and expectations. The day will begin with diagnostic strategies, then continue with staging, treatment and prognosis. We will also cover a selection of common tumour types with case studies. Given that cancer often affects our aged geriatric dogs, the course will also cover the management of concurrent disease through a case-based approach. Five things you will learn: What is meant by staging and how this is best achieved The benefits of taking fine needle aspirates and a brief overview of interpretation Which is the best approach to making a diagnosis (incisional and excisional biopsy techniques) Management and prognosis of common canine cancers To balance the management of cancer and co-morbidities when they exist Member early bird price* 180 Member standard price 210 Non-member early bird price* 570 Non-member standard price 600 8 BVA CPD SPRING/SUMMER 2015 PROGRAMME *Applies to bookings made more than six weeks in advance of the course date.

TUE 17 march Making sense of foot lameness Dr Graham Munroe BVSc PhD DESM CertEO DipECVS FRCVS, Flanders Vet Services BVA, London 10.00 16.00 Equine courses keywords: General practitioner Analgesia Radiographs In recent years there have been considerable strides made in our understanding of the aetiology of some causes of foot lameness, particularly with the increasing use of MRI. The clinician in practice can sometimes feel they can no longer diagnose and treat foot lameness without embarking on expensive diagnostic techniques. The reality is that many cases are still within the realms of the general practitioner and this course is designed to help the practising clinician work up their foot cases themselves in a thorough and logical manner. We will cover the clinical and local analgesia techniques that are important in the approach to foot lameness, and how to take better foot radiographs and interpret them more confidently. Specific cases of foot lameness will be used to discuss a range of problems including soft tissue injuries, joint pathology, penetrating injuries, fractures, hoof capsule problems, sepsis and tumours.
