Volume 27 No. 1 January 2018 WAGGS Orlando Dog Training Club Newsletter Members & Trainers Excel at Classic & Preshow Trials by Deb Wood The Orlando Dog Training Club conducted three days of trials before the American Kennel Club Classic at the Orange County Convention Center. People from 32 states, as far away as Alaska, entered the ODTC trials. Unsurprisingly, 68 Florida dogs were entered during the pre-show trials. PixnPages.com On Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017, ODTC had 103 dogs entered, including 18 golden retrievers and 10 border collies. Altogether out of 120 entries, 81 qualified. New AKC Obedience Videos on YouTube If you're interested in learning more about the AKC's four new Novice and Open exercises, check out the AKC Obedience & Rally YouTube channel. There you will find videos demonstrating the new "Sit Stay - Get Your Leash," "Group Exercise - Sit and Down Stay," "Command Discrimination," and "Stay - Get Your Leash." These exercises are replacing the current Novice and Open Group Exercises. Classic trials, continued from p. 1 Golden retrievers led the pack on Thursday as well with 20 entered, followed by border collies at 16 and labrador retrievers at 10. Of the 187 competitors, 115 qualified, including all of the dogs in Rally Novice A & B, Rally Advanced A and Rally Excellent. German shepherds came in third among Friday s entries, following golden retrievers and border collies. Of the 150 entrants, 109 qualified, including all in Novice B, Rally advanced A, Rally Excellent A and Rally Master. Member Brags Allie Earns First in Novice B Becky Pugh's Allie earned her last leg for her CD at the Obedience Club of Daytona Beach's December trials. She scored 93.5 and a First Place in Novice B. Dora Places 4th in Wildcard Novice Robin Hammel's Dora got a Fourth Placement on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, at Eustis in Wildcard Novice. ODTC Holds Tracking Trial by Paul Reep On Dec. 3, 2017, ODTC held a tracking test at Lee Vista Properties in Orlando. The club offered both a Tracking Dog (TD) Test and Tracking Dog Urban (TDU). No sign-in sheet available. 4. Committee Reports Training & Trials - None. 2. No meeting minutes were read 5. Unfinished Business Discussion on purchasing new mat cleaner. Kathy Reep made a motion that Paul be approved to spend up to $3,000 for a new mat cleaner, first asking for expert opinion and recommending to the board. Rose seconded and the motion passed. 3. Reports Report of the President - Paul thanked everyone for their hard work. Report of the Vice President - Classes start back on January 2, with a three-to-five week schedule. Paul is trial chair for December. Donna needs trial volunteers. Corresponding Secretary Report - Kelley and Trent Schwartz present. 6. New Business Cynthia discussed the plaques and bars program. The deadline is January 30, 2018. They will be presented at the February meeting. Treasurer's Report - Robin sent the report. 7.
