NOTICE BOARD 2018 CKC FEE UPDATE After careful consideration, the CKC Board approved the following fee adjustments at the December 2017 Board Meeting, effective February 1, 2018: Registration Increase of 1.5% for all Registration Service Fees Membership $1 increase for Basic Membership ($52 to $53) $4 increase for Membership Plus ($102 to $106) Shows and Trials $1.50 increase to Listing Fee ($8.50 to $10) IT4YOU UPDATE: TESTING DATA OFFERS STRONG SUPPORT FOR NEW DESIGN IT4YOU, the new CKC computer system, is destined to redefine and improve the online member experience by making it faster and easier to access personalized and pertinent information and online applications. Recently, the IT4YOU technical team invited approximately 50 CKC members from various disciplines and geographic areas, to participate in the first IT4YOU usability test that focused on a Dog Profile page. The value of a usability test is that the earlier issues are identified and fixed, the less expensive the fixes will be and the greater the likelihood of a successful launch. This test determines how well members could complete a given task. For example: Where would you find a dog s pedigree? The results of the test were that 83% of members felt that the items on the page were Extremely Easy or Very Easy to locate. Test participants also had an opportunity to submit comments, and here is a sampling: This will be an excellent service and I am looking forward to utilizing it. Wow! From what I see, I think you are covering all aspects from a breeder perspective. With ease of use, I found it more user friendly than the AKC site. Love the aspect of being able to see points. Finally, as this is the last IT4YOU update for 2017, CKC ebusiness Manager Andrew McCallister wants to acknowledge the contribution of the Board of Directors. Their thoughtful analysis and steadfast support is helping to ensure that the IT4YOU project comes together as planned and on schedule, while significantly improving the overall member experience. CKC APPLAUDS NEW MONTREAL ADMINISTRATION FOR SUSPENDING BREED BAN CKC is pleased to report that, effective December 20, 2017, the City of Montreal s executive committee has suspended the breed-specific provisions of its animal control bylaw fulfilling a much anticipated election promise by new Montreal Mayor, Valérie Plante. A full overhaul of the legislation is expected for 2018, following extensive public consultations. The City confirms via the FAQs on its website that there will be no distinction between breeds in the eyes of the updated animal control law and formerly restricted breeds will no longer require special licenses. In addition, any special conditions concerning formerly restricted breeds (such as muzzling, supervision by a person 18 years or older, and short 1.25m leash) are also no longer mandatory. Please note that the City has maintained the provision that any dog weighing more than 20kg, which is outside of the home, must wear a harness or a head halter attached to a leash not longer than 1.85m. We would certainly welcome the opportunity to participate in the consultation process next year to ensure that appropriate dangerous dog legislation and responsible dog ownership remain at the forefront of discussions, said CKC Quebec Board Director, Linda St-Hilaire. In the meantime, we continue to keep a close eye on Quebec Bill 128 and its proposed province-wide breed-specific legislation, and have requested the opportunity to present to the Parliamentary Committee, in support of well-crafted dangerous dog legislation that is reasonable, enforceable and non-discriminatory. RESERVE BEST IN SHOW QUALIFIES FOR TOP DOG POINTS Effective January 1, 2018, Top Dogs points will be awarded to the Reserve Best in Show at Conformation Events. Reserve Best in Show Top Dog points earned will be the total number of dogs minus the number of dogs defeated in the group from which the Best in Show winner was awarded. To learn more, please visit the IT4YOU Project Page. 2 JANUARY 2018
