CH Covy-Tucker Hill s Smart Re-MARC TC, HSAd, GCG, OFA H/E 09/03/02-09/20/07 Nikki was my first AKC Champion; I was honored to show Nikki until she started talking to the Judges then Art, Eric and Ben piloted Nikki to her Championship. What a great finishing celebration we had in her honor!! Nikki was my first Mom -Dog; producing 9 beautiful puppies in her litter. Nikki was my first Herding Trial girl; she loved the sheep but after being diagnosed with a very rare fungus we switched to the less exhausting stock of ducks. Nikki earned her first two Started legs in one trial and then decided Ducks were boring and she much preferred bowling them! Eventually, we earned our third leg and HSAd title going High Scoring GSD! Nikki never let you forget that she was in charge of the house and in charge of me. From a slight woof to a deep grumble reminded you that she was my guardian-girl. Nikki never left my side Last April Nikki was diagnosed with a filamentous fungus, Sagenomella. This is the second reported case of this genus ever being identified. Nikki was given two months to live. I decided to research this fungus and do everything I could to prolong Nikki s life without pain. On Monday, September 17 th, the fungus had disseminated into her joints. The pain was too difficult for her to bear and she crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Thursday, September 20 th. I miss my black-eyed Nikki but know she is now without pain -Theresa J. Royer 42

Am. & Can. Select Excellent A.O.E. Champion Elvaston's Southern Byrne TC, PT, HSAs Booker began his herding career with me in 2005, he was 7 years old. After a very successful show career and going select at the Nationals, it was time for Booker to follow in pop Boss s footsteps and do what he was born to do. He loved to herd! He was so powerful and carried so much presence, I wondered if he could ever get close enough to the sheep to be in the same arena! Booker was a quick study and because he loved it so much he was willing to put up with my directions just to be in the sheep arena. His favorite place to herd was in the 50 acre field with 40 or more head, he was a natural boundary dog. In this setting Booker really shined, he could just fly! Unfortunately logistics and traveling did not fit into the course C program so he we chose Course A arena's to trial on. Booker never objected, herding was herding and it was sure fun!! He was a great fellow and rolled with whatever was put in front of him. We first earned the PT, which was very easy for Booker and he needed only visit Sheep Camp a few times to work on earning that title. But Booker was far from done, so achieving the HS seemed like a very obvious goal. The Summer of 2006 Booker finished his HS title with great style. So next step; training for the HI! After the snow cleared, Frank and Caroline Martello sent Booker off to Sheep Camp in Gardnerville, NV over the watchful eye of another mom: Doris Estabrook. 2007 was a great spring for Booker, Doris and I. I had so much fun teaching Booker new things, and with him here for the long haul we became fast friends, I found this out when he grabbed my pant leg and shook me for the first time with a big smile on his face! What a character he was and so very proud and stoic. He did not show his affection to many, but I was lucky enough to become one of "Booker's people" and forever will be honored just knowing that fact. After class days, Doris, Booker and I would hang out by the arena and just have great conversation, and then maybe 'do lunch'. Booker went home to Frank and Caroline in June, they came up to Gardnerville to pick him up and Booker and I showed them all the new stuff. I do not know who was prouder, Booker, myself or Doris! Caroline and Frank just beamed over Bookers abilities, as did I. Booker made us smile, warmed are hearts and filled empty voids. He was special and although we only had enough time to finish his HS and one leg on HI, it was never about the title, but the journey, although short, was the most fulfilling.
