NEWSLETTER FOR FEBRUARY 2018 TROPHY SHOW Thanks to everyone who helped out and attended our November show. It was a busy show what with a WAF show going on and we had a decent overall entry of 277 cavies which was great. A special thank you goes to Nikki Matthews for stepping in at pretty much the last minute to judge the Non-Self WAF section as unfortunately Greg Jackson could not attend through no fault of his own. Well done to all of our winners- results should be in January s edition of Cavies and online. November was our AGM show and of course there was lots to discuss. Firstly this February show is our first at Broadclyst Victory Hall. The hall (hopefully) ticks all the boxes for what we need and is only a short drive from the main road. All being well this could be our new permanent show hall as for various reasons the Kenn Centre was no longer an option. Please check the location of the hall and allow a little more travelling time. Secondly there have been some changes in the committee etc. Pete Holdaway has stepped down as Chairman and handed the role over to Donna Spencer. Also, Mary Jaffa has stepped down as joint Secretary but is still on the Committee. A huge thank you to Pete and Mary for all the hard work they have done for the club. Our February Show is also our Trophy Show. Please bring trophies from last year etc and if you are returning them on the day- see our Trophy Steward Gill Broad. We are hosting the South West Area Show for the Dutch Cavy Club. Please visit their website at dutchcavyclub.co.uk for further details about the Club if you are interested in joining. Our February Show will also be holding the Western Area Fanciers AGM. The time for this meeting will determined nearer the show date. From 1 st January 2018 there are some important changes to the schedule as set by the British Cavy Council. More details of this can be found in The November 2017 issue of Cavies. There are a few slight modifications on other breeds but here are the actual changes that effects the schedule: -The Argente has moved from the Open to Guide Standard -The Californian has moved from New & Emerging to Guide Standard (note this is only the more established colours of Black or Chocolate Points with the body colour of Red/DE Golden, Buff, DE Cream and DE White) -The Belted has moved from Guide Standard to New & Emerging. -The MiniPli has been introduced to New & Emerging. One other note is that the Clipped Longhair classes will continue and after feedback from exhibitors in these classes, Clipped cavies can also be shown in the pet classes but must be shown on a regulation board for the actual Clipped Class (but not pet class) As per usual any donations to the raffle and kitchen are always greatly appreciated as these are the areas that actually make the club a small profit. Please note that the club will not be providing any shavings so exhibitors must provide and remove their own bedding for their exhibits and sales pens. This is partly due to the disappointing amount of bedding not being taken home by exhibitors after the show. We will be having a Novices Pet Section for Exhibitors who have not won a first prize in any class before. Due to the successfully large Pet Entry that we tend to get I was a little concerned that new exhibitors were easily getting overlooked in large classes and could lose interest. Hopefully this will be a great way to get more new exhibitors interested in our hobby- particularly as the hall is in a new area.

Our remaining shows for the year are 17 th & 19 th May (Devon County Show) and 10 th November (Broadclyst Victory Hall). Luke Holmes DIRECTIONS TO THE HALL- The hall is relatively straight forward to get to. There are a few ways to get there but if you are travelling via the motorway I would recommend the following: From the M5 motorway take the exit at Junction 29 (signposted as A30/Honiton/Exeter Airport), Keep in the right hand lane signposted as Exeter/A3015 and turn right onto Honiton Road, keep right and once you have reached the big roundabout take the Exeter Business Park exit which will take you up a hill, go straight over 3 roundabouts until you reach some traffic lights- taking the right signposted Pinhoe/B3181. After a short while you will reach a double roundabout which you need to go straight over. Stay on B3181 for about 2 miles until you reach Broadclyst. The hall is on the right hand side just past the Post Office and you will see Brown Signs with Victory Hall on it. Or just Google/Satnav it. Or use an actual paper map! 2018 Dutch CC Show Schedule DUTCH CAVY CLUB MASTER SCHEDULE 2018 Entry Fee: 1.00 Block Entry All Relevant Classes.
