The Herd name is used as a prefix and no other breeder is permitted to use this name, except by permission of the registered owner and of the Society. 2. Names of large towns or well-known places are not acceptable, nor any name covering a large area to which a number of other breeders might have an equally good claim. 3. Herd names can only be made of one or town words. If two words are chosen, only one more word can be added to name any calf, as calves' names cannot contain three words and a numeral. 4. In the case of a Polled Hereford Herd name, the prefix will be immediately followed by a figure 1, and in the case of British Polled herd names, the prefix will be immediately followed by a figure 3. 5. A herd name cannot be registered until the registration fee is received. 6. It is advisable to submit an alternative name when completing the Herd Name form, although the first choice will be register whenever possible. 7. It is necessary for a member who wishes to commence breeding pedigree Hereford cattle to register a Herd Name. In the case of a member having both horned and polled herds a separate Herd Name is required for each herd.
