The Annual Meeting of the Basenji Club of America, Inc., was held in the Griffin Gate Marriott Resort and Hotel, Lexington, Kentucky, on September 4, 2010. Page 4 Bulletin Board Newsletter October 15, 2009 Michael Work; CarolAnn Worsham; Tondalea Wtight; Sally Wuornos; Kari Wuornos-Winger; June Young. Also in attendance was parliamentarian Martha Grise of Richmond, KY. Vickie Jacobs moved, Sue Kite seconded, that the reading of the minutes of the 2008 Annual Meeting be suspended. Motion passed. The President gave a brief report, as did the Secretary and the Treasurer. COMMITTEE REPORTS: 2010 National: Wanda Pooley reported for Pat Bird that the 2010 National Specialty will be held September 1 5 in Greeley, Colorado. AKC Delegate: Jon Curby reported that AKC is in real trouble with declining rates of puppy registration, which contributes to a reduction in support for shows, clout, puppy mill action, etc. They are seeking commitment from breed clubs, especially by the Registration Challenge, for which a bonus of $1000 will be awarded the breed club that shows the highest percentage of registration of puppies. Denise Vertrees [TX] is managing our response to this challenge. AKC Legislation: Vickie Jacobs warned members to watch for changes in local regulations and legislation concerning dog ownership and breeding, along with breed-specific legislation. Breeders Education: Carole Kirk reminded of the seminar at this meeting. ByLaws: Karla Schreiber discussed the advantages of electronic ballots, which are used by several non-profit organizations, along with government and educational entities. Since changing to this action can be done only with approval from AKC and would require an amendment to the By-Laws, any decision to change would be left to the incoming Board of Directors. Health and Research: Lisa Auerbach gave an update on health research and on Gary Johnson s work: he is ready for the next stage of his investigation of genetic signals for Fanconi. National Specialty Site Selection: Michael Work emphasized the need for suitable sites in the West Coast region; several are available in East and Central, but sites in the West Coast are difficult to find. Public Education Committee: Carol Webb reported on the activities of the Public Education Committee, among them the printing of a coloring book designed to attract and educate young learners. Videography: Karla Schreiber reported on the sales of National Specialty DVDs. Judges Selection: Mary K. Quinnett discussed the new procedure, designed to give the widest representation of members wishes. Bulletin Editor: Wanda Pooley gave a brief history of the publication costs of the Bulletin, from the earliest slim issues with few photos to the fuller ones today, including color pages and covers. She presented alternatives to covering the costs of the publication: the $3.00 of the annual dues now given could be changed to a regular subscription process or a separate fee. Any changes will require amendment of the By-Laws. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Jon Curby reported that, in the work on Fanconi, Dr. Gary Johnson (University of Missouri) has not yet isolated the marker in the genetic material. The Health and Research Committee will be asking for money to fund Johnson s work. Proposals for the 2013 National are now being taken; it is scheduled for the West Coast area. LIFETIME MEMBER ELECTION Sue Joyner moved, Lisa Hart seconded, that Margaret [Peg] Grundman be voted a Lifetime Member for her years of devoted and effective service as BCOA Treasurer. Motion carried unanimously and enthusiastically.

Page 5 Bulletin Board Newsletter October 15, 2009 NEW BUSINESS: Sue Kite discussed the feelings of some members that having the co-chairs for the National Specialty also serve as judges was inappropriate and might bring AKC criticism. In reply, the President pointed out that neither event judged was an AKC event in which a dog s standing would be affected. By this time, the quorum had broken, thus preventing transaction of any official business. Michael Goldman moved that the meeting adjourn; it was adjourned at 7:20 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Anne Graves, Secretary Awards traditionally presented after the BCOA Annual Meeting. The Reveille Re-up Award for Stud Dog (producing most champion get for the year): CH Illusion Tech Sun JC, owners Bob and Terry Reed The Diane Coleman Award for the top-winning dog in all-breed shows: CH Klassic s Ms Mata Hauri, owner Debbie Hauri. MINUTES OF THE BASENJI CLUB OF AMERICA, INC., ANNUAL BOARD MEETING The Annual Board Meeting of the Basenji Club of America, Inc., was held at the Griffin Gate Marriott Resort and Hotel, Lexington, Kentucky, on September 2, 2009. President Sally Wuornos called the meeting to order at 6:09 p.m. In attendance were Sally Wuornos, President; Karla Schreiber, Vice-President; Anne Graves, Secretary; Laura Hesse, Treasurer; Directors Lisa Auerbach; Damara Bolté; Jon Curby; Margaret Greenlee; Brenda Phillips; Laurie Stargell; Carol Webb. Visitors were Susan Campeau; Pamela Geoffroy; Susan Joyner; Janet Ketz, Michael Work. Auerbach moved, Greenlee seconded that the reading of the minutes of the last meeting be suspended. Motion carried. The Treasurer presented her report and the Proposed Budget for 2010. Bolté moved, Schreiber seconded, that the Treasurer s report be accepted as read; Greenlee moved, Phillips seconded that the Proposed Budget be accepted. Both motions carried. The Secretary presented a report of the number of voting members: 895, making 90 the number for a quorum at the Annual Meeting. For committee reports: For By-Laws Revision: Schreiber reported that, moving towards getting AKC approval, the committee is working on a clearer text and explanation for electronic voting. For Site Selection for National Specialties, Work reported that the great need is for good sites in the West Coast area. There are several in the Eastern and Central regions, but the great need is in the West Coast. BCOA members are urged to contact Mike with sites they know of.

Brenda Phillips explained the new procedures for electing Judges for National Specialties and the reasons for them; she said the third round of voting had just been sent out. Page 6 Bulletin Board Newsletter October 15, 2009 BALLOT 2009-44: Greenlee moved, Graves seconded, that Margaret Grundman [FL] be nominated for a Lifetime Membership. Grundman gave devoted and effective service as the long-time Treasurer of BCOA, and the club desires to show appreciation and affection. Motion passed. NEW BUSINESS: BALLOT 2009-45: A proposal for hosting the 2012 BCOA National Specialty in Gettysburg, PA, was presented by a group of Eastern region members. Bolté moved, Webb seconded, that the proposal be accepted. Motion passed. BALLOT 2009-46: AKC is urging member clubs to push hard for all members to get their puppy buyers to register the puppies. Too many are failing to do this; the resulting loss of revenue will affect all the fancy, for example, in higher fees for showing and loss of clout to fight adverse legislation, among others. Denise Vertrees will publicize the idea for the breeder to mail the registration certificate when the puppy is picked up by its new owner. AKC is offering a $1000 bonus for the member club with the highest percentage of puppies registered (a prize particularly good for a small club like BCOA). Bolté moved, Greenlee seconded, that BCOA participate in this endeavor. Motion passed. The Board heard and discussed member concerns about the wording of the purpose of the African Stock Project, not only of the most recent stock imported but also of much earlier imports. It was suggested to submit this statement to the committee for rewording. Schreiber moved that the meeting be adjourned; it was adjourned at 7:00 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Anne Graves, Secretary MINUTES OF THE EIGHTEENTH ANNUAL MEETING OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE BASENJI HEALTH ENDOWMENT The eighteenth meeting of the Board of Directors of the Basenji Health Endowment, a not-for-profit corporation, existing under and by virtue of the laws of the State of Illinois, was held in the Griffin Gate Marriott Resort and Hotel in the city of Lexington in the Commonwealth of Kentucky on the third day of September at the hour of 7:03 p.m., pursuant to call and notice by a majority of the directors of the corporation. The following members of the Board of Directors were present, constituting a quorum of the board: Lisa Auerbach Margaret Greenlee Laurie Stargell Damara Bolté Laura Hesse Carol Webb Jon Curby Brenda Phillips Sally Wuornos Anne Graves Karla Schreiber On a motion made by Greenlee, seconded by Schreiber, the reading of the minutes of the 2008 meeting was dispensed with. Treasurer Hesse gave her report; on a motion made by Greenlee, seconded by Bolté, it was accepted as read. There followed discussion concerning putting funds into a longer term account, submitting to an accountant for advice as to accessibility, safety, and appropriate use.

Page 7 Bulletin Board Newsletter October 15, 2009 Then was proposed that, because of the complexity of investing and making accessible the funds to researchers, for the club year 2010 we ask the treasurer Laura Hesse to remain in that office to initiate the newly-elected BCOA treasurer into the procedures. N.B. The Board of BHE has traditionally been the Board of BCOA; however, the BHE Board is chosen by the previous year s Board and is not required to be the same as the BCOA Board. No action was taken. There being no further business to come before the Board, on a motion made by Webb, the meeting was adjourned at 7:20 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Anne Graves, Secretary AKC DOIN S Obedience: Chapter 1, Section 16, of the Obedience Regulations was amended, effective January 1, 2010 to allow a dog or handler ineligible to be entered in an "A" Class to be moved to the "B" Class at the same level. Grand Championship There was a motion by Mr. Arnold, seconded by Dr. Davies, and it was VOTED (unanimously) to approve a new advanced conformation title to be called Grand Championship. http://www.akc.org/pdfs/about/board_minutes/0809.pdf Rules Applying to Dog Shows Chapter 3, Section 8 Bred-By Exhibitor Class There was a motion by Dr. Smith, seconded by Dr. Davies, and it was VOTED to amend Chapter 3, Section 8 of the Rules Applying to Dog Shows to require a dog entered in the Bred-By Exhibitor (BBE) class to be registered by the day of the event as required by other classes. This change brings the Bred-By Exhibitor requirements in line with all other regular classes as defined by Chapter 11, Section 1 of these Rules. Rules Applying to Dog Shows Chapter 3, Section 8 Bred-By Exhibitor Class The Board reviewed a request from the Delegate Dog Show Rules Committee to amend Chapter 3, Section 8, of the Rules Applying to Dog Shows to require the handler of the Bred-By Exhibitor (BBE) entry to handle the dog through the Winners Class. There was a motion by Dr. Smith, seconded by Dr. Davies, and it was VOTED (unanimously) to not approve the proposed amendment. Effective January 1, 2010 Chapter 11, Section 1. No dog shall be exhibited in a licensed or member dog show, except for dogs entered in the Miscellaneous Class unless it is either individually registered in the AKC Stud Book, or individually registered with a foreign registry organization whose pedigrees are acceptable for AKC registration. A dog with an AKC limited Registration shall be ineligible to be entered in a breed competition in a licensed or member dog show. Q:Are all AKC sports affected? A:Yes, all dogs competing in AKC performance events, companion events and conformation shows are required to be individually registered before competing in the event. Q:May dogs with foreign registration compete? A:Dogs individually registered with an AKC recognized registry (see: http://www.akc.org/rules/special_registry_services.cfm ) may exhibit for up to 30 days after the date of the first AKC event in which it was exhibited. After 30 days time the dog must have received AKC

registration or have applied for and been granted an extension from AKC Event Operations in order to continue exhibiting at AKC events.
