Unit 3 ANIMALS Animals Live in Different Places God has put animals all over the world. Some animals, such as the camel, live in the desert. A camel (cam el) can go without water for a long time. Very little water is in the desert. A polar (pol ar) bear lives where it is very cold. His white coat helps him to hide from danger. Giraffes live where trees are tall. Their long necks help them to reach the leaves on these trees. The giraffes like to eat the leaves. Jungle snakes can hide in the leaves of the many trees in the jungle. The snakes are safe. Camels live in the desert. God has placed animals where they can find food. God has put animals where they can live safely. He has given people good minds. People must think of ways to make their homes better no matter where they live. Section 2 25

Unit 3 ANIMALS Animals Have Different Coverings Not all animals have the same covering. Each covering helps that animal to survive. Birds have feathers to help them fly. The feathers are light. Air moves past the feathers swiftly. Snakes have scales to make it easy to bend. They move smoothly along the ground. A bird A turtle (tur tle) carries his shell with him. He pulls his legs under the shell when danger is near. Other animals have thick fur to keep them warm in winter. A cat grows thick fur before the cold weather starts. A turtle The elephant has a thick skin to help him. He is so big that he can t hide easily. His tough skin must keep him safe. God has given each animal a covering to help keep that animal safe.
