467 STORE CATTLE & STIRKS 10AM Auctioneers: Simon Alford 07789 980203 Alan Webber 07967 718048 Steers to 1170 Heifers to 975 A larger entry of store cattle which incorporated our first autumn show and sale of continental steers and heifers saw any quality bred and well presented suckler kinds sell as well as ever, but as seen at the summers end in previous years lesser sorts looked cheaper, in particular those second tier dairy cross types. Best bullocks rose to 1170 for a single Limousin (22m) from John & Jenny Squire of South Tawton, a bunch of Blue steers (21m) off the same farm saw 1145 apiece whilst other Blue steers (22m) from Mark Palfrey of Yeoford topped 1140. Younger steers (17m) from Rob & Una Mingo of Whitestone looked dear at 1135 for a bunch of five Blondes whilst their group of eight Charolais steers (16m) saw 1000 each and five heifers with the same comments fetched 930 a head. Limousin steers (17m) to 1060 for David & Wendy Holland of Dolton as Angus steers (25m) saw 1120 for Gordon Elliott of Ashburton. South Devon Steers (22m) to 1070 for Brian Rowden of Blackawton. Three quarter finished Blue heifers (25m) topped 975 for Russell & Alison Retter of Cotleigh with Blonde females (22m) rising to 970 for RL Down & Son down from Barnstaple. Smart Simmental heifers (20m) realised 930 for Tony Foss of Torpoint with a bunch of three whilst a slightly older female of the same breed also made 930 for Michael Wonnacott of Throwleigh. A pair of well grown Blue heifers (18m) from David & Wendy Holland rose to 910 also well covered Blonde heifers (15m) from Clifford & Martyn Squire of Coryton ran to 860. Best suckler bred calves rose to 825 for Jim Eggins of Yelverton with a striking young Charolais steer, his other Charolais steers got to 730 whilst females of the same breed ran to 665 again from Jim. A tremendous run of youngstock up from Praze & Beeble from the Gluyas family also saw 825 for a pair of Limousin steers (10m) with slightly younger sorts seeing 700 as a trio of Limousin heifers (9m) hit 605 a head. Another consignment of well bred and reared calves from James Williams from Meavey saw South Devon steer stirks to 750 whilst a pair of smart Charolais steers made 730 apiece, a price also achieved for his exceptionally well-muscled heifer of similar breeding. A couple of spritely Simmental steers (8m) from Gordon Elliott of Ashburton saw 580 each also Anthony Barrow of Bickington sold young, well turned out South Devon steers to 605 and heifers for 525. Neat dairy bred Blue steers (10m) to 540 for Graham Sercombe of North Tawton. 107 CALVES - 10.15AM Auctioneers: Mark Davis 07773 371774 & Ian Caunter 07813 068935 Identical numbers as last week forward, saw the best achieve good prices whereas the rest looking perhaps a little easier. Blue bulls topped at 392 for Messrs Higgin of East Allington, whilst Keith & Jane Hulbert of Honiton achieved 370 with theirs. Limousin bulls sold well topping at 372 for Kathrine Starr of Dunkeswell, N Churchill of Sidmouth realised 370 and 360, whilst AP & RE Retter reached 305. Further Blue bulls from RE & EAM Vooght of Newton Abbot hit CALVES - 10.15 am 350, a nice show of Simmental bulls from Martin & CALVES Bulls Heifers Liz Bennett of Broadhembury topped at 330, with Breed TOP AVE TOP AVE others achieving 320 & 295. Herefords attained British Blue 9 392 224 10 288 180 290 from JW & LF Baker of Exeter, whilst smart Angus bulls from Keith & Jane Hulbert reached 270. Limousin 9 372 280 14 292 180 Charolais topped the heifer section reaching 330 Charolais 2 330 243 from Malcolm Harris of Slapton, Simmental heifers Simmental from MJ Hooper of Spreyton attained 295, Limousin 5 330 294 2 295 230 heifers again from Kathrine Starr reached 292, whilst Hereford 1 290 290 3 230 160 Blue heifers from TJ & BE Cowley of Ashwater hit Aberdeen Angus 5 270 217 10 220 135 288 & 265. Herefords from Derek Burrough of Yarcombe realised 235, whilst Angus heifers from Devon Keith & Jane Hulbert topped at 220. Another large Holstein / Friesian 37 50 30 entry of young Black and Whites met a steady trade with the majority trading around the 30s. Shorthorn

The dispersal of the commercial Jersey herd on behalf of Cansford Farm of Camelford sold to a decent trade for the best and the second quality or anything which had fault was a more difficult trade. Top of the day was 1200gns for a non-pedigree second calving freshly calved cow with a fresh fourth calver close behind at 1100gns. A third calved Kit bred cow by Q Impuls sold at 1000gns with the best of the Richtop bred cows reaching 950gns. Dry cows sold to a top of 820gns for Richtop Legacy Joy and 800gns for Richtop Legacy Moonray, both by Holylane Lilibets Legacy. 3914 SHEEP - 11AM Auctioneer: Russell Steer 07788 318701 2375 BREEDING EWES With well over 2000 breeders penned, trade started off steady with indifferent and odd pens of older ewes trading slightly over cull values and looking sensible if you re not bothered about breed or type. A pen of pure Texel FM ewes from Roger Geake of Lamerton raced away to top the sale when they sold at 190 apiece, Roger also sold pure Suffolks at 105 and Suffolk x s at 90. FM Mules were in strong demand selling to 103 (x2), 101 & 98 for Derek & Ashley Purchase of Kentisbury, 94 (x5) for Geoffrey Coon of St Ewe and 84 (x4) for Brian & Ian Johnson of Bridport. Elsewhere, Gordon White of Crediton sold his Scotch half Bred FM Ewes well at 100, S Chugg from Colyton sold Charollais x ewes to 91 and Andrew Hendy of Diptford sold the best of his Highlander x FM ewes to 87 (x2), 84, 83 & 81 (x2). A run of scanned In-Lamb Dorset s due October from Martin Chatfield of Cheriton Bishop saw his pen of older ewes sell at 125 as did his four pens of shearlings. A very respectable line-up of shearlings for the time of year were a straight trade with the best of all breeds 125 plus. Top money Shearlings at 160 went to Ross & Emma Sizmur of Okehampton with their quality NC Mules which saw further pens at 132 & 129. More quality mules at 132 (x3) for John Bond of Blackawton and 120 for the first two pens from both Roger Alford of Sourton and the Huxter family of Bridport. Charollais shearlings to 140 for Steve Dennis of Bow, two pens of Texel x Highlanders sold well at 130 for Duchy College of Stoke Climsland, three pens of Romney shearlings from Tim & Amy Heywood of Rackenford realised 126 and Texel x mules peaked at 124 & 120 for Henry & Mark Johnson. Best of the Suffolk crosses rose to 131, 129 & 128 for MJ Headon of Shillingford, 130 (x3) for Clifford & Martyn Squire of Coryton and 126 for G & C Cummins of Cove. A short offering of ewe lambs ahead of next week s Main Sale were keenly sought after with pure Dorsets at 98 for WR Lott & Sons of Black Dog, Dorset x Mules selling to 89 for David & Jenny Cox of Rackenford, the same breed sold to 86 & 84 for neighbour and relative Pat Lee. A run of Suffolk x mules from Ed Ellis of Dunchideock sold to 84, 79 (x2) & 72. 1319 STORE LAMBS A large crowd of buyers ensured all lots were keenly bid for and twice as many lambs could have been sold without affecting price. Best lambs to 90 & 83 for A Hornby of Dawlish, 81 for N Carpenter also of Dawlish whilst medium term lambs sold to 71.50 for John & Diane Vooght of Dunsford, 70 for Brian Lavers of South Brent and 69 for Robert Moule of Totnes. Plenty of framey yet lean lambs selling from 64-68 and smaller well-bred long term lambs generally either side of 60. Several very small lambs upwards of 38 and looking chancy while hill lambs were keenly contested selling from 24 for small pure Welsh rams to 62.50 for forward shorn mule wethers from Richard Gray of Holne. Overall average was up 2 to all but 57. 56 GRAZING EWES Best to 62 for a ram from David & Richard Rossiter of Kingsbridge, 60 for Bateman Rural Associates of Membury, 59.50 for BM Hookins of Chulmleigh and mules sold to 57 for both Geoffrey Coon of St Ewe and Greg Wotton of Kingsbridge. 162 RAMS A super entry of Rams sold to decent trade with a 60% clearance throughout. Top of the tree came from a cracking entry of Texel s from David Broad of Tintagel topping at 550, with others reaching 480 (x2), 420 (x2) and 400 (x2). Chris Ruby of Ashwater and Richard Burrough of Membury reached 500 for strong Texel shearlings. Another super entry this time from James & Lucy Heard of Okehampton saw Suffolks sell to 500 (x2) & 480 (x3), Gordon White of Coleford saw his Suffolks reach 500, with others selling to 440 (x2), whilst other powerful sorts from Mike Waycott of Ashburton hit 420. Further Texel shearlings from both Ross Edwards of Tavistock and Kevin & Becky Matthews of Lewtrechard accomplished 400. Charollais shearlings from Gerald Burrough of Dunkeswell topped at 420, whilst Bill Quick & Sons of Zeal Monachorum attained 400. A nice show of Poll Dorset Ram Lambs from Margaret Heard of Maundown saw the best reach 300. Av. 315.
