What is it? Barn Hunt is the relatively new and quickly growing dog sport catching fire across the country! Barn Hunt is based on the traditional roles of many breeds in ridding farms, barns, crop storage areas, and homes of destructive vermin. Some breeds were specifically created to fill this role, and for many of those breeds, Barn Hunt provides their first true opportunity for responsible breeders to test proper working traits in their dogs. Barn Hunt is open to any dog of any breed or mix that wishes to play the game and can fit through an 18 wide by bale-height tall tunnel. Barn Hunt offers titles, levels of increasing difficulty, and championships. How can I learn more? Visit the Barn Hunt website (http://www.barnhunt.com) to read the rules. Go to YouTube and search for Barn Hunt to view dogs in action. How do I know if my dog will like it? Nebraska Kennel Club is hosting a Barn Hunt Practice on Saturday, September 2nd, 2017, outside at, 10803 No. 72nd Street,. Four levels will be available: Barn Hunt Basics, Instinct, Novice, & Open. Instructors will be available to help you. The cost is $8.00 for each level. Registration is from 9:15-9:45 a.m. Barn Hunt Basics level begins at 10:00 a.m. followed by Instinct, Novice, & Open. Pre-registration is encouraged, especially if you plan to run your dog in the later levels. Does my dog need to be registered with Barn Hunt to participate in the practice? No, it s for fun to see if your dog likes this. What can I do, if my dog seems to like this event? Nebraska Kennel Club will be hosting an official Barn Hunt Trial on September 16-17, 2017. Your dog will need to be registered with the Barn Hunt Association to take part in the trial. If you need more information and/or a Premium List, contact Norine at papillonsrule@cox.net or Ron at rweaks@centurylink.net. ----Submitted by Norine Nieman 5

The meeting was held in Newark, New Jersey in June. The Forum preceded the regular Delegate meeting and it was information for clubs in case they have to hold an Event Committee Meeting during a show. The program was met with much enthusiasm. I had the pleasure of being on this panel presenting information to all the Delegates present. Dennis Sprung called the meeting to order and all persons on the dais were introduced. New Delegates were introduced and new clubs were elected. The minutes from the previous meeting were approved as published. National Purebred Dog Day in Washington, D. C. was very successful. AKC continues to outreach and be proactive in the awareness and importance of dogs via various media. Revenue is up and so are expenses for the AKC. However, registrations are up as are the sale of pedigrees. $5 million for recording and event fees and much growth by digital advertising and the current marketplace. Expenses include payroll and benefits to constituents, travel, etc. The rule for Grand Champion points passed. The Beagle and Retriever field trial rules also passed. New readings for upcoming votes were read and will be published in 2 issues of the Gazette for a vote at the next Delegate meeting. Much discussion was held regarding the disqualification and reinstatement of DQ d dogs. Scent work program was discussed. There is an additional Barn Hunt title for Crazy 8. The recommendation to eliminate the 26 inch jump height and substitute the 24 inch Choice height was approved by the Board. There will be an all- breed puppy and junior stakes inaugural at the December shows in Florida. Staff is to review the possibility of offering a Puppy Bred by Exhibitor class at shows. There are currently over 300 possible titles to be awarded by AKC! Two additional breeds have been accepted into the FSS program. Medora Harper, Delegate 6

Keep a lonely night from being truly lonely. Get us outside on beautiful fall days. List to our singing. Treat us like celebrities when we come home. Warm up our beds on cold nights. Star in our home videos. Make our hearts more vigorous. Take us outdoors on snowy winter days. Help us live a little longer. Make us smile. Agree with everything we say. Warm our knees with their chins. Provide a use for old tennis balls. Signal when a thunder storm is coming. Pull sleds. 7 Help lower our blood pressure. Test how fast we can run. Keep the squirrels from overtaking our yard. Teach us the meaning of unconditional love. Take us out on rainy days. Teach our children about responsibility. --List from IAMS Dog Food advertisement.
