NZQF NQ Ref 0886 Version 6 Page 2 of 6 National Certificate in Poultry Production (Level 2) with strands in Egg Production, Poultry Hatchery, and Poultry Meat Production Level 2 Credits 57-62 Purpose This qualification recognises the skills and knowledge of a person at entry level in the poultry industry. The holder of the qualification is able to care for poultry under supervision in at least one of the poultry industry sectors. Holders of the qualification are able to carry out sanitation, cleaning, and residue control procedures in the poultry facility; maintain site biosecurity; recognise health and ill health in poultry; and have knowledge of food contamination hazards and control in poultry operations, poultry welfare, poultry diseases and their prevention, exotic diseases, poultry anatomy and body systems, and the poultry industry. Strands allow people to specialise in at least one sector of the poultry industry, which includes egg production, poultry hatchery, and poultry meat production. On completion of this qualification people can choose to progress to the National Certificate in Poultry Husbandry (Level 3) with strands in Egg Production, Poultry Hatchery, and Poultry Meat Production [Ref: 1177]. Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. The table of mutually exclusive standards is provided in section 7 of the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) Rules and Procedures publications available at http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/ncea/acrp/index.html. Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions and retain their identification number (ID). Any version of a standard with the same ID may be used to meet

It was republished in April 2009 following a correction to the title of standard 18013. Changes to structure and content credits for standards 497, 17997, 18002, 18006, and 18016 have been updated to reflect changes made at review standards 17999 and 18008 were replaced by standard 25108 in the Egg Production Strand Compulsory and Poultry Meat Production strand standard 18000 was replaced by 25109 and has been moved from the Egg Production Strand Compulsory to the Egg Production Strand Elective; standard 18000 was replaced by 25109 in the Poultry Meat Production Strand standard 18001 was replaced by 25110 and has been moved to the Core Compulsory section total credits have changed from 51-58 to 57-62. For detailed information see Review Summaries on the NZQA website. Training programmes or courses for version 5 of the qualification may start as soon as the qualification is registered. This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards. For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards see table below. It is not intended that anyone be disadvantaged by this revision. NZQF NQ Ref 0886 Version 6 Page 6 of 6 Previous versions of the qualification Version 4 was issued in order to remove standard 18017 from the Poultry Meat Production strand as it was identified as a barrier to completion for some candidates. Version 3 was issued to in order to change the strand name Poultry Rearing to Poultry Meat Production. Version 2 was issued to change the strand names to reflect industry sectors Breeding Operations became Poultry Rearing, Table Egg Production became Egg Production, and Hatchery Operations became Poultry Hatchery. Other standard setting bodies whose standards are included in the qualification New Zealand Industry Training Organisation Certification The certificate will display the logos of NZQA and the Agriculture Industry Training Organisation and the accredited organisation. Classification This qualification is classified according to the NQF classification system and the New Zealand Standard Classification of Education (NZSCED) system as specified below. Accreditation requirements and the moderation system are outlined in the associated Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP) for each standard.
