Meet the Groomers Event (June 2 nd after the Specialty Judging) As a follow up to our ECSCC Newsletter Grooming articles, groomers will be available to help interested people with specific grooming challenges of their choice. This event will take place In the ECSCC courtesy grooming tent outside the specialty building. This is not a formal grooming demonstration, but a chance to ask questions and see demonstrations of grooming areas where you would like to improve your skills. REGULAR CLASSES (divided by sex) will be offered: CONFORMATION CLASSES OFFERED, SATURDAY, JUNE 2 JUNIOR PUPPY CLASS - This class shall be for any dog 6 months of age and under 9 months of age on the day of the show SENIOR PUPPY CLASS - This class shall be for any dog 9 months of age and under 12 months of age on the day of the show 12 TO 18 MONTHS - Shall be for dogs 12 months of age and under 18 months of age on the day of the Show. CANADIAN BRED CLASS - This class shall be for any dog born in Canada (Champions of any country excluded). BRED BY EXHIBITOR CLASS - This class shall be for any dog owned and handled in the ring owner/breeder. The handler MUST be the owner/co-owner AND breeder/co-breeder of the dog. The owner/breeder must handle the dog at the class level, but need not handle the dog for further awards. OPEN CLASS - This class shall be for all dogs (divided by colour i.e. Solid & Parti-Colour) VETERANS CLASS: Shall be for all dogs 7 years of age and over on the day of the specialty. The winners of the Veteran Male and Female classes will NOT compete for Championship points but goes directly into the Best of Breed competition (Spayed or Neutered Dogs are eligible for competition in this class) SPECIALS ONLY CLASS - This class shall be for any dog which has a recorded CKC Registration or Event Registration Number and has attained the required points for Championship status. EXHIBITION ONLY - All dogs entered in this class shall be listed in the catalogue with the same particulars as dogs entered in regular competition. Dogs entered in this class MAY NOT COMPETE in any Regular class but may enter and compete in Non-Regular classes and/or Parades ONLY NON-REGULAR CLASSES NOTE: Any dog entered in a Non-Regular class MUST also be entered in a regular class or for Exhibition Only on the same day and may be spayed or neutered PROVIDED they are entered in Exhibition Only STUD DOG & GET: Shall be for Stud Dog & two or more of his Get. (The Get MUST be entered in one of the regular classes) BROOD MATRON & PROGENY: Shall be for a Brood Bitch & two or more of her Progeny. (The Progeny MUST be entered in one of the regular classes) BRACE CLASS: Shall be for two dogs (not necessarily the same sex) TEAM CLASS: The requirements for this class are the same as those for the Brace Class except that 4 dogs shall be entered. Conformation Prize List: Suitable trophies/prizes and/or rosettes will be offered for the following awards: Best of Breed Best of Opposite Sex; Best of Winners Best Puppy in Breed Best Veteran Winners Dog Reserve Winners Dog Winners Bitch Reserve Winners Bitch Best Brace Best Stud Dog Best Brood Bitch First through Fourth in all regular classes Award of Merit (1 per 10 dogs competing at the breed level) Best Canadian Bred in Breed (may come from any class) Best Veteran in Specialty (award will be made from the winners of the Veteran Male and Veteran Female class)

PERPETUAL TROPHIES: Best of Breed James Angus Memorial The James Angus Memorial Trophy is donated through the English Cocker Spaniel Club of Canada by the friends of James Charles Angus, Minmist English Cocker Spaniels, in his loving memory and in the recognition of his love and commitment to English Cocker Spaniels. Best Opposite Sex The Loving Cup The "Loving Cup" is presented by Gordon and Marie Scott to the Best of Opposite Sex as a memorial to English Cocker Spaniels loved and enjoyed as companions. Best Puppy in Breed Sterling Silver Rose Bowl A Sterling Silver Rose Bowl with handles is offered by Gordon and Marie Scott to the winner of Best Puppy in Breed Best Parti-Colour Female Willowbrook Trophy The Willowbrook Trophy" is donated by Patricia Powers to the Best Parti-Colour Female in Specialty Best Bred By Exhibitor - Timeless Trophy The Timeless Trophy was named in honour of the late Linda Beason in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the English Cocker Spaniel Club of Canada, and is offered by the club to the winner of the Best Bred by Exhibitor classes. Winners Bitch - Sonny Tougas Memorial Trophy The Sonny Tougas Memorial Trophy is presented to the Winners Bitch in memory of Maurice (Sonny) Tougas along with a Special Rosette. Note: All perpetual trophies will remain in the possession of the club and may not be won outright but will be available for photo opportunities. The distribution of the Puppy and Veteran Sweepstakes funds are as follows: The entry fee collected in each class in each of the Sweepstakes classes will be divided as follows after 25% has been deducted to defray the Sweepstakes expenses: 1st-40% 2nd-30% 3rd-20% 4th-10% A Rosette will be awarded to: Best in Sweepstakes, Best of Opposite Sex to Best in Sweepstakes in both Puppy and Veteran Sweepstakes. JUNIOR HANDLING-FRIDAY, JUNE 1 Judge: Cindy Hasler Fee: $2.00 All dogs must be entered in an official class on the day of the Specialty, but need not be owned by the junior handler of the family. The following classes will be offered: Pee Wee (4 to 6 years non-competitive) Junior Novice (7 to 10 years) Junior Open (7 to 10 years) Intermediate Novice (11 to 14 years) Intermediate Open (11 to 14 years) Senior Novice (15 to but not including 18 years) Senior Open (15 to but not including 18 years). Best Overall (excluding Pee Wee) Rosettes will be offered for 1st to 4th in each class and Best Overall. Pee Wee entrants will receive a Participant ribbon. OBEDIENCE, FRIDAY, JUNE 1 The following classes will be offered: Pre-Novice is an elective class and earning the title is not requirement to enter Novice Classes. The Pre-Novice Class shall be for any dog of any recognized or listed breed which has not earned the title of P.C.D. Dogs in this class may be handled by the owner or any other person. A person may enter more than one dog in this class. Novice A is for dogs and handlers where the dog has not achieved a CD title and the handler has not put a CDX title on any dog. Novice B is for dogs and handlers where the dog has not achieved a CD title and the handler has put a CDX title on any dog. Novice C class is open to any dog of either sex that has gained the title Companion Dog, Companion Dog Excellent, Utility Dog or any other advanced Obedience title in Canada prior to the closing date of the trial in which it is to be entered. Exhibitors may enter more than one dog in this class but must have a separate handler for each dog in the long sit and the Long Down Exercises when they are judged in the same group. The Novice C exercises will be performed and judges as described in the official Novice Class except that exhibitors may compete in the Novice C class indefinitely. Scores earned by dogs entered in the Novice C are not eligible for High In Trial. Novice Intermediate class shall be for any dog of any recognized or listed breed which has earned the title of Companion Dog, Companion Dog Excellent, Utility Dog or any Obedience Trial Champion. Scores earned by dogs competing in this class are not eligible for High in Trial. Open A is for dogs and handlers where the dog has achieved a CD title and not achieved a CDX title and the handler has not put a UD title on any dog. Open B is for dogs and handlers where the dog has achieved a UD title, and for dogs and handlers where the handler has put a UD title on any dog.

Utility A is for dogs and handlers where the dog has achieved a CDX title and not achieved a UD title, and for dogs and handlers where the handler has not put a MOTCH title on any dog. Utility B is for dogs and handlers where the dog has achieved a CDX and a UD title and for dogs and handlers where the handler has put a MOTCH title on any dog. Brace is open to any two dogs of any breed that have earned the title of C.D. or higher. It is not necessary that the same person own both dogs, nor that they be the same breed, except where entered in a breed specialty obedience trial. Team is open to any 4 dogs of any breed that have earned the title of C.D. or higher. It is not necessary that the same person awn all dogs in the team or that they be of the same breed, except where entered in a breed specialty obedience trial. Five dogs may be entered, one to be considered as an alternate. However, all the same 4 dogs must compete in all exercises. Veterans The veterans class shall be for any dog that has earned the title of C.D. or higher is 7 years old or older on the day of the trial. The Exercises shall be performed and judged as in the Novice Exercises. Dogs entered in the Veterans Class must also be entered in any regular class or for Exhibition Only. Obedience Prize List: Suitable trophies/prizes and rosettes will be offered for the following awards: High in Trial Highest Qualifying Scores in each Regular, Unofficial and 2 nd to 4 th in each class. The Scout Memorial Trophy is offered by Wendy Wallace to the Highest Scoring Champion of Record (CKC) in the ECSCC Obedience trial. The trophy remains in the possession of the club. Note: For information on obedience rules and any changes as of January 1, 2012 please refer to the CKC web site at www.ckc.ca The following classes will be offered: RALLY OBEDIENCE RALLY NOVICE A: Dogs competing in this class may not have won a CKC Rally Novice (R.N.) title or any CKC Novice Obedience title. The handler of any dog in this class must be the owner, co-owner, or a member of their immediate families. A person may enter more than one dog in this class. A dog may continue to compete in this class after the owner has been notified by at least 2 different judges that the dog has won 3 qualifying scores in this class. However, a dog may not be entered or exhibited in this class in any rally trial after the owner has received official notification from the CKC that the dog has won the title. RALLY NOVICE B: Any dog may compete in this class until a qualifying score in the Rally Advanced Class is earned. The owner or any other person may handle dogs in this class. A person may enter more than one dog in this class. All exercises are judged on leash, and all dogs must enter and leave the ring on leash. RALLY ADVANCED A: This class shall be for dogs that have won the Rally Novice (R. N.) title but have not won the Rally Advanced (R. A.) title or any CKC Novice Obedience title. The handler of any dog in this class must be the owner, co-owner, or a member of their immediate families. A person may enter more than one dog in this class. A dog may continue to compete in this class after the owner has been notified by at least 2 different judges that the dog has won 3 qualifying scores in this class. However, a dog may not be entered or exhibited in this class in any rally trial after the owner has received official notification from the CKC that the dog has won the title. dog has won 3 qualifying scores in this class. However, a dog may not be entered or exhibited in this class in any rally trial after the owner has received official notification from the CKC that the dog has won the title. RALLY EXCELLENT B: This class will be for dogs that have won the Rally Advanced (R.A.) title. A dog completing the Rally Excellent (R.E.) title may continue to compete in this class indefinitely. The owner or any other person may handle dogs in this class. A person may enter more than one dog in this class. All exercises are judged off leash except the Honour Exercise. All dogs must enter and leave the ring on leash. Rally Prize List: Suitable trophies/prizes and/or rosettes will be offered for the following awards: Highest scoring dog in each class and 2 nd to 4 th in each class. AGILITY The English Cocker Spaniel Club of Canada will be supporting the entries of English Cocker Spaniels entered in the Northern Alberta Canine Association s Agility Trials on Sunday, June 3, 2012 by offering special prizes to those English Cocker Spaniels who place first in each class and those who earn qualifying scores. General Rules Governing This Show 1. The Club reserves the right to remove any person from the show. The Show Superintendent shall have full control of the above show and trials, which will be governed by CKC rules 2. Any dog excused by the Show Superintendent or the Show Veterinarian for any reason shall not, after being excused, compete in any class for any award for the balance of the show 3. The show committee will use due care and diligence for the welfare of dogs and exhibitors, but will not be responsible for, or assume any liability in the event of accident, or other misfortune, to either dogs, exhibitors or patrons 4. A Judge or any person participating in any capacity at a Dog Show held under CKC Rules shall not be subjected to any indignity of any kind during the progress of the show and it shall be the duty and Obligation of the club holding the show to see that this rule is effectively carried out. The Show Superintendent shall promptly report to the CKC any infringement of the rules, and the Discipline Committee shall have the power to take such action as it deems fit on receipt of a report indicating that this rule has been violated. 5. Exhibitors are solely responsible for the conduct or actions of their animals while they are on the show grounds 6. Dogs must be on the grounds one hour before the judging of the breeds, and may be removed when not required for further judging 7. DOGS MUST BE READY FOR JUDGING. The Club will not be responsible for and is not obligated to provide any service for notifying owners or agents of breed or class judging. No ring shall be held up waiting for exhibitors or handlers. Exhibitors and Handlers with more than one dog shall have substitute handlers available so the judging will not be delayed 8. The owner of a dog entered in these shows is entirely responsible for any error in entering his/her dog, regardless of how or by whom the entry was made 9. A dog once disqualified for any reason at a championship show held under these rules cannot again be shown at a show held under these rules until the dog has been examined by an official committee appointed by the CKC and the committee finds the dog is free from the condition which prompted the disqualification. Application for reinstatement must be accompanied by applicable fee plus GST which shall be forfeited to the CKC if the examining committee is satisfied that the dog should remain disqualified. All awards earned at a dog show in violation of this rule shall be cancelled by the CKC and the owner of (he dog is subject to disciplinary action 1'0. Exhibitors and Handlers will be responsible for their dogs and for their equipment left at the Show Grounds. NACA will assume NO responsibility in this matter. 11. For the benefit of the health of animals and the pleasure of the exhibitors and spectators we insist upon keeping our grounds and buildings as clean as possible. Exhibitors are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs. Please exercise your dog BEFORE TAKING IT TO THE Judging ring. Dogs are to be exercised in the designated areas only

No entry fee will be refunded if the Show cannot open or be completed by reason of riots, civil disturbances, fire and Acts of God, public emergency, act of public enemy, strikes or any other cause beyond the control of the Club 13. Entry fees will not be refunded in the event that a dog is absent, disqualified, excused by the Veterinarian or Judge, or barred from competition by action of the Show Committee. CHAMPIONS AND CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS A dog awarded WINNERS at a Championship show shall be credited with a number of championship points (ranging from 0 to 5) and the number of championship points credited to a dog awarded WINNERS shall be as provided hereunder. The schedule to be employed in the determination of the number of points awarded WINNERS shall be as follows: Competing* 1 2 3-5 6-9 10-12, 13 or more Points 0 1 2 3 4 5 *Includes the dog awarded Winners In counting the number of eligible dogs in competition, a dog that is disqualified, dismissed, excused or ordered from the ring by the judge shall be included in the calculation for points. If a dog awarded WINNERS is also awarded BEST OF BREED at the show, then all dogs competing in the breed, including Specials Only, shall be included in the total. If a dog awarded WINNERS is also awarded BEST OF OPPOSITE SEX to Best of Breed, then all dogs of the same sex including those competing for Specials Only shall be included in the total. If a dog is awarded WINNERS is also awarded BEST OF WINNERS, then all dogs defeated directly or indirectly in the breed shall be included in the total. If a dog is awarded WINNERS only, then all the dogs of the same sex in the class competition shall be included the total. The number of championship points to be credited to a dog awarded WINNERS shall be determined by the highest award earned and calculated as per Section 15.1. In addition to championship points allocated at the breed level, a dog awarded WINNERS, which also places in the regular Group competition, shall be credited with the following additional points provided that a dog was defeated at the Group level. A dog awarded WINNERS which also places BEST IN SHOW at an All-Breed Championship Show shall be credited with 5 Championship points inclusive of any points earned at the breed and group level. In no case can a dog earn more than five points at a single show. An error in the class, date of birth or sex may be amended up to one hour BEFORE the start of the Show. MOVING CLASS DOGS TO SPECIALS A dog which is individually registered in the records of the CKC or has an ERN number at the time of closing of entries, and has completed the requirement and time for entries for a show, but whose championship is yet unconfirmed by the CKC may be transferred from one of the regular classes to Specials Only providing the transfer is submitted to the show secretary in writing at least one (1) hour prior to the opening of the show, by the owner or handler. Effective January, 1994: If your dog has the required number of Championship points and you do not have your registration number before entries close, and you receive your registration BEFORE the date of the show, you may move your dog up to Specials if you provide the Show Secretary with the registration number and the dog has been entered in the classes as a LISTED dog. Listing fees, however, WILL NOT be refunded. An error in the class, date of birth or sex may be amended on the entry form up to one hour before the start of the show. Rule (8.2.5)

Important Notice for US Exhibitors showing in Canada. Dogs are required to have proof of current rabies vaccination when entering Canada. You do not need an ERN (Event Registration Number) to show in Canada, however if your dog is not registered or does not have an ERN, you must pay a listing fee of $8.75 Canadian per entry. An ERN must be obtained within 30 days of obtaining points, awards or scores to avoid cancellation. Effective January 1, 2011 - Non-Member Participation Fee (This only applies to dogs wholly owned by non-members and is not applicable to CKC members or dogs coowned with a CKC member, nor does it affect US exhibitors who must apply for an ERN number as noted above). A non-member resident in Canada is subject to the fee. Dogs co-owned with a CKC member are exempt. There are 2 options for non-members: a) Join the CKC or b) Pay the Non-Member Participation Fee The fee is a yearly charge based on the calendar year January 1st to December 31st in which the awards, legs, points, titles, etc. were achieved. It is not based on the number of dogs or titles or awards earned, and it is assessed against the owner(s). Non-members will receive a letter from CKC Head Office informing them that they have 30 days to join the Club or pay the Non-Member Participation Fee. Dogs co-owned by two or more individuals the first person listed in the CKC dog records will be considered the caregiver of the dog and all communication will be sent to this person. Payment of the Non-Member Participation Fee or becoming a CKC member will protect all awards, points, titles and legs in the calendar year in which they were earned. Failure to pay the fee within 30 days of the notice will result in all awards, legs, points, titles being cancelled. Once cancelled the awards, legs, points or titles will be given to the next applicable dog. Once cancellation takes place any subsequent awards titles, legs, etc. earned will automatically be cancelled without further notice. The Non-Member Participation Fee is applicable starting at the first event in which the dog earns awards, points, titles, legs and is not pro-rated. *Please note that the CKC Membership application and the Non-Member Participation Fee forms are available on the website under CKC Services and then Forms On-Line. If submitting a Membership Application, please ensure that you also complete the Non-Member Participation Fee form so that CKC is aware of the dogs involved.
