It i with ome pride that I tate that thi wa the mot important deciion ever taken to promote and defend country port in Ireland. The fair have been a major force in promoting country port and the rural way of life throughout Ireland and many of the event which are now regarded a commonplace were firt introduced and promoted or popularied at the Fair thee include gundog tet, terrier & lurcher how; ferret & falconry demontration; living hitory and conervation exhibit etc. Mot of the major organiation alo drew trength, upport and member from our event. I am proud to have been part of a team that ha developed the Great Game Fair of Ireland to be not only the premier country port event in Ireland but alo increaingly of an international tandard. The fair, even during the dark day of the trouble, were an oai of peace & tranquillity where portmen and women from all over Ireland came together on a truly cro border, cro community bai and gun were on diplay for their legitimate purpoe. We are proud to have helped good community and fraternal relation through our two fair. A uual at thi time of the year I would like to thank all who have helped u over the year and remember thoe who are no longer with u, in particular, three fellow fair director the late Philip Lawton; John McClelland and John Beach. I particularly wih to thank our hot Lord and Lady O Neill and the Rt Hon Shane O Neill for the ue of thi very beautiful and hitoric Shane Catle Etate. In my opinion it i the perfect etting for a Game Fair. I would alo like to thank our ponor including TourimNI, Antrim & Newtownabbey Borough Council and Supervalu. Thi year we have more and better quality trade tand including an extended Fine Food Pavilion; the Living Hitory Village include a Battle of Antrim encampment, we continue to add an international focu to our competition which through the generoity of our ponor have prize fund unrivalled in Ireland; we have the bet arena programme of any event in Ireland and both thee and our competition are at leat the equivalent of any event in the UK; and throughout the how we have added and improved mot facet. Finally we have taken up the challenge to develop, with DAERA and IFI and the angling bodie upport, an Angling Show within the Fair in a imilar fahion to the manner in which we have developed the Irih Game Angler a a magazine within a magazine within our Irih Countryport and Country Life magazine. Thi i a work in progre but particularly pleaing i the Put and Take fihery organied by Mark Tierney and hi colleague from NSN. Working with the UAF and APGAI Ireland they have put together a fair programme where the young can learn to tie a fly, learn to fly cat and then try to catch a fih, There i no better way to involve the young afely in our port.
