Top class heifers from J Seed & Son, Thornley sold to 2200 and 1900 and first prize commercial heifer came from David Wilcock, Bolton selling at 1980. First prize cow came from Sam Pye selling at 1900. Trade was solid with too many to mention from 1800-1900 which was a ve

ry pleasing result considering the weather took a few bidders away. In-calf heifers were a strong trade selling to 1580 and 1540 with nothing under 1270. The trade of the day was for the pedigree stirks from Doug Graves selling to 910 with another group to sell in May. NEXT WEEK we expect 30 milkers with six from David Graveston. Plenty of the better continentals 125-150, Mule s to 130, Swale s to 74. Just shy of 600 hogg s. We couldn t match last Saturday s exceptional trade but an overall average of 237p an acceptable result for the goods on offer today. Top prices per Kilo came from John Wood Trawden, with 37kgs Texel s @ 126 (340.5p) and James and Janette Pate, Gisburn 38kg Texel s at the same price (331.6p). Top prices per head from Charles Stanton at 133.50. Ted Wilson and Bill Heyes both at 132. Plenty of pens with weight and finish above of 120. The amount of stores put through the fat ring dragged the average back. We need runs of proper fed hogg s each week, until spring lambs start to come forward. Goats with kids were very good to sell indeed. The Bradley family from Long Preston topped the market with a Toggenburg Nanny with twin British Alpine kids at 200, followed by P Rathmell at 188. Frankland Farms sold to a high of 180 for single outfits. Sheep and Lambs were definitely better to sell on a warmer Saturday and with a decent weather forecast for next week. Jim Faud had a super twin Texel outfit away at 260. Plenty of double outfits in the 160-200 bracket. Topping with singles was Harry Wood, Dutton with Mule shearlings and strong Suffolk Lambs at 200. Correct ewes with single s from Jim Faud at 164, Mick Garrity at 147 and Sally Sleightholme at 140. Remember, we sell sheep with lambs at foot every Saturday, at approximately11.30am after the fat sale. Vendors please ring in with your entries for advertising and the ballot by next Tuesday lunch time. Thanks REMEMBER, we are selling sheep and lambs every Saturday. Please ring the office by Tuesday lunchtime with entries and let s hope for some more Spring-like weather! NAMED NATIVE SIRES DON T LOSE OUT MORE auction calf vendors could be enhancing their returns and broadening their potential customer base if they ensure the passports of native sired calves, particulary Hereford, Angus and Beef Shorthorn, carry the sire s eartag number as well as its herd prefix and name.
