What exactly is a Habitat? An animal s habitat is the place where the animal lives in the wild. It provides animals with two important things, shelter and food. It is a great place for animals to have their babies because everything they need is there for them. There are many different habitats. When you visit Knowsley Safari you may talk about the Savannah Grasslands, the Rainforests and the Deserts. Can you colour in these types of habitats on our map of the world? Use the key below to colour in where in the world you might find these habitats. Red Savannah Grasslands Green Rainforests Yellow Deserts Blue Polar

Wordsearch There are nine hidden words in the Wordsearch below. They are all related to habitats, and what is important about them. Can you find them all? OIRASTNFER LGNRSANDASS TDSREE Animals can only live in particular places, but their bodies are built in a certain way, that make them perfect for their surroundings. These are called ADAPTATIONS. Adaptations are parts of an animal, that allows the species to become better suited to its environment. An example of an adaptation would be humps on a camels back. The camel wouldn't survive in the desert without these humps due to the lack of food there, it would go hungry very quickly and die. Now it has these humps, they can go for a long time without food or water.

There are good reasons why certain animals live in particular habitats. Fill in the sentences below to show why some animals cannot live in the wrong habitats. 1. Frogs can t live in deserts because there is not enough W to keep them wet. 2. A snail would hate to live in the Desert because there would not be enough P to eat. 3. The Polar regions would be the worst place for a stick insect to live because they would have nowhere to H from predators. Can you think of anymore? Write them in the box below:- Summary Well done for reaching the end of our Habitats Worksheet! To summarise what you have learnt, fill in the last remaining gaps below! A R is somewhere where it R everyday and there are lots of T. They are found near the E. The G are somewhere where there are two seasons. They are mostly found in A.
