Etiological Agents of Respiratory Disease Newborns (0 to 30 days) Group B Streptococcus, Lysteria monocytogenes, or Gram negative rods are common RSV in premature babies Infants and toddlers 90% of lower respiratory tract infections are viral with the most common being RSV, Influenza A&B, and parainfluenza. Bacterial infections are rare, but could be S. pneumoniae, Hib, or S. aureus.
