Zoonoses in - Federal Researh Institute for Animal He ToR: To provide servies to the OIE, in partiular within the region, in the designated speialty, in support of the implementation of OIE poliies and, where required, seek for ollaboration with OIE Referene Laboratories ToR: To identify and maintain existing expertise, in partiular within its region 1. Ativities as a entre of researh, expertise, standardisation and dissemination of tehniques within the remit of the mandate given by the OIE Disease ontrol OIE/German Projet to eliminate rabies in dogs in Namibia. Tehnial Support for Namibia in Eliminating Rabies in Dogs Interims Report: Epidemiologial Analysis of the Rabies Situation 2011-2015 in Namibia Interims Report: Moleular Epidemiologial Analysis of the Rabies Situation in Namibia Avian Influenza (H5N8) Sine November 2016 highly pathogeni avian influenza H5N8 has been deteted first in wild birds in different regions in Germany and also in private or ommerial holdings of poultry. Outbreaks of HPAI - H5N8 have been onfirmed in more than 21 ountries. Sine the beginning the FLI is strongly involved in the diagnosti and ontrol of the disease in Germany. Epidemiology, surveillane, risk assessment, modelling Surveillane of porine influenza In an ongoing surveillane study porine nasal swab samples from several an ountries have been examined by PCR for porine influenza. Up to 6000 samples will be examined until 2017. Positive samples were further haraterized and moleular haraterization of the virus isolates obtained revealed presene of 4 different hemagglutinin and 3 distint neuraminidase lineages with frequently ourring reassortants between these lineages. Training, apaity building 2 OIE Collaborating Centres Reports Ativities, 2016

Zoonoses in - Federal Researh Institute for Animal He EU Twinning Projet at Kimron Veterinary Institute was ompleted, but the network will remain. The overall objetive of this Twinning Projet is to improve the mehanisms for animal and publi health protetion in Israel from existing and emerging diseases, food-borne pathogens and residues. Improved animal disease diagnostis and ontrol in Israel The projet purpose is to strengthen the apaities of the Kimron Veterinary Institute (KVI) and supervision of private aredited laboratories to ahieve rapid and effetive surveillane and ontrol of animal diseases as well as provision of reliable evidene to ertify animals and animalorigin produts as safe, espeially for human onsumption, up to an Union (EU) and World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) standards. Zoonoses A prevalene study was performed in domesti ruminants of different regions of Bulgaria and Turkey. Sera of 1165 ruminants were tested for CCHFV-speifi antibodies and a prevalene of up to 90% was identified. The overall prevalene for Bulgaria was 26% and for Turkey 57%, highlighting the risk of human infetions in those regions and the importane of the investigation of the prevalene in animals for identifiation of risk areas. Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagi Fever Virus Diagnosti tools for CCHFV A prevalene study was performed in domesti ruminants of different regions of Bulgaria and Turkey. Further results indiated that small ruminants are more suitable indiator animals for CCHFV infetions and should therefore be tested preferentially, when risk areas are to be identified. New Borna Virus Variegated Squirrel Bornavirus 1 (VSBV-1) has been deteted in several variegated and Prevost s squirrels and in three breeders of variegated squirrels. Extensive moleular biologial and immunohistologial investigations indiate that VSBV-1 is a novel zoonoti pathogen and that the three deeased breeders ontrated the infetion from their infeted variegated squirrels. Currently it is unlear whether VSBV-1 also ours in other animals. Investigations on the identifiation of further suseptible speies and on the origin of the pathogen are ongoing. Initial investigations of indigenous red squirrels (S. vulgaris) gave no hint for VSBV-1 infetions. OIE Collaborating Centres Reports Ativities, 2016 3

Zoonoses in - Federal Researh Institute for Animal He Insetarium FLI has established insetaries in its new BSL2 and BSL3 ontainment failities. In two BSL2 insetaries, arthropod are bred and olonies maintained (presently several invasive mosquito speies and strains of them, and some tik speies). It is planned to add a biting midge olony (Culioides) in the near future. While one BSL2 insetary is mainly thought for rearing, there is spae in the other one for non-infetious experiments, e.g. on temperature tolerane, developmental preferenes, behavioral aspets et. The BSL3 insetary is meant for infetion and transmission studies both in vitro and in vivo using small animals (rodents, rabbits). Reently, in vitro vetor ompetene studies have been started with mosquitoes. In vivo studies with arthropods and larger animal hosts (e.g., attle and sheep) will also be possible in the BSL3 and BSL3+ ontainments, and in vitro infetion studies are underway with Ornithodoros tiks and n swine fever virus in the BSL3+ ontainment. Bat breeding olonies Establishment and maintenane of two breeding olonies of fruit bats (Rousettus aegyptiaus and Eidolon helvum) in order to study the immune system of bats and to establish permanent bat ell lines. Challenge and/or transmission experiments are foreseen in the long term. Wildlife Surveillane of hantaviruses in reservoir hosts Within the researh network rodent-borne pathogens the sreening of small mammals from Germany for hantaviruses was ontinued and ollaborations extended to Czeh Republi, Frane, Poland and Lithuania. Our investigations indiated a broad geographial distribution of Tula hantavirus in voles from different ountries and a limited distribution of Puumala hantavirus in bank voles from Germany, inluding the first moleular detetion of Puumala hantavirus in Lithuania and in Subarpathian region of Poland. Reently, a novel hantavirus was disovered in a bat from Czeh Republi. Furthermore, we ontinued our harmonization approah of abundane estimation and Franisella detetion (started within the APHAEA projet) together with partners in Czeh Republi, Frane and Switzerland. Diagnosis, biotehnology and laboratory Franisella tularensis and other zoonoti pathogens Novel DNA preparation and immunosensor tehnology for the detetion of Franisella tularensis and other zoonoti pathogens was developed together with Spanish olleagues in the frame of the FP7 projet "Multisense Chip", the The lab-free CBRN detetion devie for the identifiation of biologial pathogens on nulei aid and immunologial level as lab-on-a-hip system applying multisensor tehnologies. ToR : To propose or develop methods and proedures that failitate harmonisation of international standards and guidelines appliable to the designated speialty 2. Proposal or development of any proedure that will failitate harmonisation of international regulations appliable to the surveillane and ontrol of animal diseases, food safety or animal welfare 4 OIE Collaborating Centres Reports Ativities, 2016
