Overview: Notes: Objectives Handout Do-It-Yourself Shelter Assessments: Learning to Use Maddie s Animal Shelter Infection Control Tool Presented by Claudia J. Baldwin, DVM, MS, and Kiley Maddux, LVT November 3, 2011 This webinar will introduce participants to the online biologic risk assessment tool, Maddie s Animal Shelter Infection Control Tool. The tool is intended for use by shelter directors and staff, and veterinarians and veterinary staff, who work with, or for, companion animal shelters. Access to this tool is limited only to internet availability. There are 6 assessment categories which include: Animal Health, Animal Husbandry, Cleaning/Disinfection/Sanitation, Emergency Management, Facility/Environment, and Training/Public Health. The objective is to introduce participants to recent outbreak situations, and how the Tool incorporates and links information that is available from a number of respected animal health resources. This assessment will provide Best Practices for your companion animal shelter. Additionally, we will show the use of Asilomar Accords data as an indicator of increased adoption rates, decreased non-treatable/non-manageable rates, and ultimately increased live release rates that can be followed over time.
