Countrywide Feeds Bergerac Race 1 st Open 1 st NW Section Paul Kenny from Wantage with Kenny s Lad With the weather forecast finally in our favour and sunshine predicted all the way through France we had a Bergerac Classic like we used to have, with 101 birds being verified on the winning day. Our last old bird race of the season saw 185 members send 985 birds and with 7 other organisations also on the transporter the total liberated was approximately 1650 birds. As dawn broke on Friday morning nothing was holding us back from an early morning lib, so Nigel cut the strings and had the birds away at 6am with no wind on site and a variable North West to North East wind in France turning West to South Westerly in the channel. Many thanks to all the helpers and markers for all your hard work as some of the marking stations were very busy with birds being transferred from other organisations. 1 st Open 1 st NE Section Paul Kenny from Wantage. We would like to start by thanking all the well wishers, it is very much appreciated. We finally got our nose in front after being 2 nd and 3 rd Open Bergerac in recent years. Our winning pigeon is now called Kenny's Lad. He is 3/4 M & D Evans Vandenabeeles and 1/4 Mark Kidby Van Triste. His parents have now bred us 3 Section winners to date. We introduced M & D Evans birds in 2011 and they have done us proud winning Club, Fed and Section positions. Our family of pigeons are mainly the Vandenabeeles. We sent a team of 7 and had 5 return on the day. Kenny's Lad has been a very consistent bird for us this season as he has been 3 rd Section 216 th Open Messac NFC, 5 th Section 38 th Open Fourgeres NFC and 5 th Section 38 th Open Saintes NFC. He is raced on widowhood. All our birds are fed on Vanrobaeys Platteaux mix with Red Bordeaux added closer to basketing. All birds are trained at least once a week from the coast. Although we race under the name of P Kenny we re a family team as the wife and children help out with the birds from cleaning the lofts out, feeding to training. Our eldest Son James has just become a member of our local Club and has his own team of young birds to race this season. Hopefully one to look for in future results.

Paul Kenny 2 nd Open 2 nd NE Section is Barry Sherman & Steve Wells from Oxford. Our two year old blue bar cock is bred from a Brockamp cock obtained from Geoff Cooper paired to a very inbred Great Grandaughter of Mark Gilbert s Southfield Supreme. He was sent to Bergerac sitting eggs. Barry Sherman & Steve Wells

1 st SE Section 3 rd Open is Ted Harris from Portsmouth. Firstly, I'd like to say well done to the two longest flying birds that beat me. Thanks to Richie Thomas who bred the bird for me and his wife Jane for her assistance with training our birds. This yearling blue cock was 6 th club and 24 th Fed the previous week. I thought that if I did get a bird within ten hours that this one wouldn't be far away. I clocked this yearling at 2 minutes past 4. He was also duplicated back in to the Solent Fed and the Parade Flying Club winning 1 st Club, 1 st Solent Fed. All in all a perfect day. Thanks to the convoyers for looking after the birds so well whilst away. This cock is now known as 'James' Joy'. Ted Harris & Grandaughter Jessica 2 nd SE Section 4 th Open is Richie Thomas from Portsmouth. First I would like to thank CSCFC for looking after the birds so well and well done to all the winners especially Teddy Harris. The pigeon I got was flown on widowhood, I bought it from Ian Crammond and Nigel Langstaff from the CSCFC breeder buyer sale. The corn I race on is bought from Nigel Langstaff and Kevin King mixed together. This pigeon also won 1 st Club, 5 th Solent Fed at Coutances and 29 th Section from Messac National this year. I entered nine pigeons and had six on the day and two the next morning. I would like to give a big thank you to my amazing wife Jayne for training mine and Teddy Harris pigeons. Keeping it real and living in the golden mile.

Richie & Jayne Thomas 5 th Open is Roger Lowe from Reading. Sending seven hens my first is a Grandaughter of John Crehan s Mystique bred by Crammond and Langstaff. The sire bred by Mark Gilbert and is a grandson of Drum. She was my third pigeon from the BBC Fougeres race finishing 14 th Section 18 th Open 1,856birds. My second bird is a full sister to Shirley Warren winner of the Fougeres race with the BBC and is bred from a direct Vandenheede cock Rocky when paired to a direct Daniel Aerens hen Lady Jane. Out of the seven sent I had two on the day and three the next day. Well done to Paul and family on winning this race after finishing second last year. Roger Lowe

6 th & 8 th Open is Dave Spencer from Titchfield Common. Firstly, I would like to congratulate the winner and thanks the CSCFC as both birds arrived in lovely condition. I keep a modest size team of about 15 pairs of old birds and 40 young birds. My main strain of birds are mainly Janssens. I try and bring in a few birds a year to cross in with them and race them out so ultimately I'm left with the best. I race natural only. My 1 st bird was my good Jansen hen, sire was a cock brought from ponderosa UK, dam is a pure Janssen bred by Roger Lowe. This hen can fly and win in all winds and speeds, she has taken several cards and top positions. She won 26 th Open Guernsey CSCFC doing over 2000 ypm in 2014 and last year she was 2 nd Section 4 th Open Bergerac CSCFC doing 986ypm, this year she was 99 th Fougeres CSCFC. She was sent to her last race before Bergerac which was Carentan 2 weeks ago with the Solent fed winning 1 st Club & 41 st Fed. My 2 nd bird is a half sister to my first bird sharing the same sire. Her dam is a Koopman hen, she was brought from Premier Stud and is a prize winner herself with several Club and Combine positions. This hen is one for the future, as she has already scored this year being 8 th Section 66 th Open Fougeres CSCFC. Dave Spencer 7 th Open is Ivan Mills from Winterborne Stickland. Firstly I'd like to congratulate the Open winner and the other Section winners, plus our Chairman Clive Merrills for his comprehensive on route weather report, - what a pity it rained Clive! Winner SW Section CSCFC Bergerac - Blue Pied Hen 447 a yearling bred from a Verhayen cock purchased at the Classic late bred sale, he'd been donated by Keegan & Son prior to their clearance sale. Being early bred he was in a heavy moult and didn't attract a single bid at auction. Consequently I made Clare an offer after the sale and he's proved to be a real bargain. He's paired to a hen from a combination of Janssen; Van Reet; and Van Loon bloodlines which I've cultivated for a number of years. Both the dam's parents are successful

racers and the sire known as Mad Max would have been a real success if he'd been a better trapper. This pairing has proved quite a fruitful as they bred Kevin & Christine White's Fougeres Classic winner, and an OH's section winner for Pete Hollard of Lychett Matravers. Prior to Bergerac she'd had four races including Battle the previous weekend, and had twice been first to the loft without scoring. She was sent sitting 12 day eggs and competing with a hen she's paired with to cover a nest bowl of pot eggs. I began the season very short of cocks and lost several pre-season training, consequently I've raced hens paired together. Over the years I've been quite fortunate with late bred's from the Classic late bred sale, three of my principle stock birds originated from the sales and one a Tony Leggett cock bred Dick Bailey's pigeon which took 30 th position in this years Bergerac race. Ivan Mills Hen 9 th Open is Jason Ross from Portsmouth. I would like to say congratulations to Paul Kenny on his win, and to the CSCFC team for a good race. I usually race roundabout but my hen was raced sitting as I had paired up for the Saintes National. This hen has previously been 2 nd Section Saintes 2015 and a few Club positions. She was lost from the NFC Ancenis race a few weeks ago so was rested and put into Bergerac. Her breeding is a Vandenabeele from Shadow lines. I would like to thank Kala for all her help with the birds and Tony Barrett for taking the birds to the marking station for me.

Jason Ross 10 th Open is Godfrey Kingswood-Cox from Southampton. When I sent 74545 Volante 2 to Bergerac, I expected her to fly it but didn t think she was experienced enough to do it on the night. Imagine my shock and pleasure on timing her at 16:35 and not looking too tired. Especially as I have lost several far more experienced birds in former races this year and she was my only entry for this race. When I bred her I thought she would be more useful for breeding because she is rather inbred. Her grand dam on both sides is Volante who among other performances was appropriately 36 th open on the night from Tarbes CSCFC and 38 th open on the night Bordeaux BBC in 2012 and Volante s great grand sire is Blue Thunder 2, 1 st open only bird on the day CSCFC Pau. Also Volante s great grand dam is Daphne great grandaughter of Blue Thunder 2, best pigeon in Europe over 4 Classic and National races with a co-efficient of 2.4. One of Volante 2 s grand sire s is Barcelos 7 th open Palamos in 2015 who is also a grandson of Blue Thunder 2 through Polycock best pigeon in Europe over 5 Classic and National races (only bird on that page). Thankfully as Volante 2 looked quite robust as a baby I have bred a couple of early rounds off her parents this year, time will tell if they re as good as her. Two weeks before Bergerac Volante 2 was 2 nd club and high up in the Fed from Fougeres when she was my 2 nd bird in the clock. It s not normally a problem for me sending to so many races (I do try to support all the clubs I belong to) with only a 30 bird old bird race team. But this season has been a particularly testing one with unusually so few lost birds working back. Congratulations to everyone who timed birds especially those who timed in front of me.

Godfrey Kingswood-Cox 2 nd SW Section is Terry Paice from Weymouth. This 2 year old chequer cock has flown consistently this season in the BBC, Weydor and Central Southern Classic. He is a Jan Aarden bred from a pair purchased from the Ponderosa UK Stud, flown naturally, sitting 14 day eggs. He seems to perform well across the channel. I would like to thank Dave Davies for taking them to the marking station. Terry Paice and Grandson Tyler

1 st NW Section (and probable 3 rd & 5 th Section too) is Chris & Jane Howse & David Parsons from Devizes. Firstly we would like to congratulate Paul Kenny and the other winners. Our first bird Heinz was a two year old widowhood cock on his sixth channel race having previously flown the NFC programme including Saintes where he finished up 2 nd Section. As a young bird he failed to arrive on the day from most of the races, and we had to get him back by courier as a yearling from Fougueres. But this year he has been ever consistent being 3 rd Club in his first race from Bedhampton and now 1 st Section Bergerac. He is certainly bred for the distance as his sire is a grandson of merit man our NFC merit winner and Joe Raeburn s Gwen 1 st NFC San Sebastian, the dam is a daughter of the 58 cock who is a section winner himself and breeder of section winners, also he is the nest mate to JALTA who himself won this race in 2013 for us. Our birds are raced on the conventional widowhood system and are fed Versa Laga corn. We would also like to say well done to Nigel and Bill on giving us a good race when the birds came back in excellent condition and we had three of our five home on the day. Chris & Jane Howse with Grand Children Jay, Alfie, Layla, Toby & Archie 2 nd NW Section is Frank Quinn from Devizes. First congratulations to all the winners and the convoying team, the birds came back in great nick, sent three got three can t ask for more, well maybe a bit faster.

My bird is a good hen flown separated she was 5 th Section 20 th Open at Bergerac last year but at the begining of the year was badly hawked with all her back ripped out and I did not think she would survive. She is the first one to return to something like her best that I have had hawked. Breeding, she is a grandaughter of Chris Howse s merit winner on one side with my own birds.
