The Year of the Dog Why Were Different Animals Chosen? Each new year in Chinese culture is known by an animal. There are twelve different animals altogether. This tradition began a very long time ago and is thought to have started with a story about Buddha. Buddha asked all of the animals on Earth to come and see him one day but only twelve animals came. Buddha gave each one of these animals their own year in the Chinese zodiac cycle to say thank you. When Does the Year of the Dog Start? The Year of the Dog starts on 16 th February 2018. Once it is over, it will not be the Year of the Dog again until 2030. What Is Good about the Year of the Dog? There are lot of good things about being born in the Year of the Dog. If someone is born in the Year of the Dog, Chinese culture believes that they will be: honest they will always tell the truth; clever they will be smart; independent they will be able to do things on their own; a fantastic friend; a good listener; quick to forgive other people; someone who always does the right thing. What Jobs Would People Be Good At? Chinese culture believes that people born in the Year of the Dog might make good: police officers; scientists; politicians; nurses; judges. Page 1 of 2
